Not very big, BP. Biggest I had employed about 300 FT equivalent. Didn't earn huge money then either. Just after my day, managers were on 6 figures in very large stores. One young graduate manager is now CEO - and you should see his remuneration now. Earns in 2 days what I earn in a year. Very nice and modest man though - we are so similar in many ways.

But then, I can often kick a football better than Michael Owen :-D And I never crash like Lewis Hamilton. And they get oodles of money.

Jax. You have a good memory :-D When I moved to N Wales in 1976, 3 of the shops employed less than 12 people. All ex John Irwins stores (small grocery shops with HQ in Liverpool). All 3 I can remember (Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn and Abergele) closed for an hour for lunch :-D

I am absolutely cracking up here

Err no John but you have to admit you are bloody on your soap box AGAIN!

Rewards don't guarantee common sense nor compassion yours just means you know how to flog food.

Now give others a chance to reply, every one of mine are out of date by the time I have typed them because you have piped up again.

Such an accolade but then self praise is no recommendation.

The majority of posters over the 9 years I have been a member have all kept their private lives just so - PRIVATE. You are not one who hides your light.

I have said before and will say it again - in my opinion you have an narcissistic personality.

JOHN - I had a feeling you were being modest. I thought that you would have been voted something special for the massive contribution you gave to supermarkets in those days. I thought that the company would have had a statue made of you on a pedestal similar to when you are standing on your soapbox.
Correct me if I'm wrong but were supermarkets only slightly larger than a corner shop in those days.

Sue :-D :-D

I thought at first you meant the thread was full of ................

Commodious thoughts

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 8 Feb 2013 20:13

modesty? surprised you knew how to spell it

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 8 Feb 2013 20:13

I would steer this thread but there is no commode in the wheel house :-(

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 8 Feb 2013 20:03

Were you thinking Chris in Wessex too, AnnC?

Think it was Chris who knew a fair bit about legalities. That side of the issue (which I feel is important) had got rather lost. There were some good posts on legals. No, I know virtually nothing about legals.

GP, yes I was being modest about supermarkets knowledge. I was voted best manager in supermarkets in 1976 by the trade body, the Institute of Grocery Distribution (have all letters and documentation to prove that, photos with Lord Trenchard and sat on the Cadbury Table with most of their Board of Directors). But modesty had stopped me from boasting about that up until now ;-) And I am a fraction of the man I was then - just an old buffer these days. :-( :-(

I reported terryj - using another disgusting euphamism

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 8 Feb 2013 19:57

pmsl very clever :-D

GeordiePride

GeordiePride Report 8 Feb 2013 19:55

JOHN - don't undermine yourself. I'm sure you really know everything about supermarkets. Regarding the bible I believe you are an expert after reading hundreds of your posts. I am not a particularly religious person and the last time I saw a bible they were reading me the last rites but I told them I'm not ready to go until I send a post to answer one of John's contributions.

not a clue - but think I know someone who does ;-)

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 8 Feb 2013 19:53

now, back to the actual topic......

How would same sex marriages affect people who die intestate?

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 8 Feb 2013 19:52

so John thinks I have not kept a grip on this thread? who says I have to? I posted giving my take on things and then sat back to see what others thought

now as usual John, you have completely taken this thread over, as you have done with many other threads since you first infested these boards with your superior patronising knowledge - you bang on ad nauseum about the same old same old as if we didn't understand in the first place

we've had your views - you seem to think this thread is all about you - we don't care how many girls you went out with in your youth - not that I believe that number of girls would have been so blind - but this thread is not about courtships, imagined or otherwise

in all the years I've been on GR I have never known any member upset so many fellow members as you have - you purport to know the cat's a>>e about every subject under the sun - if a location is mentioned - you've been there, an activity - you've done it - we've all suffered enough

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 8 Feb 2013 19:47

then in that case somebody is definitely masquerading as you John

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 8 Feb 2013 19:43

Thanks for compliment, GP. Unfortunately, not deserved. I know quite a bit about the Bible and quite a bit about supermarkets. Wales - a little bit. Wolverhampton - a little bit.

After that, it is a pretty poor show. :-( :-( :-(

GeordiePride

GeordiePride Report 8 Feb 2013 19:38

JOHN - I wouldn't need your daughter to teach me a thing or two. You could teach me everything as you appear to have a world wide knowledge of every subject on earth.

GP

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 8 Feb 2013 19:36

John don't forget to check that account - I would be quite concerned if somebody made outrageous claims and tried to palm them off as coming from me

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 8 Feb 2013 19:35

A thread does not need to be managed nor does it need anyone in the
(Excuse me while I laugh) chair.
Everyone who is interested in a subject chips in or not as is their want.
