Remembrance. Peace. Veterans.
Remembrance. Peace. Veterans.
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is an Armed Forces charity dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the use of a limb, an eye or sight. They support these men and women in their communities throughout the UK. and assist limbless veterans to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Hari Budha Magar was born in a very remote part of Nepal. As a youngster, he decided that he wanted to join the British Army. The selection process was very tough - he was 19 years old and very proud to be accepted. It was a big honour and a chance for him to build a better life.
Unfortunately, he was severely wounded by a bomb blast in Afghanistan that left him fighting for his life. Sadly, he lost both of his legs above the knee.
However, he is now, literally, on top of the world as, with Blesma’s help, Hari became the first double above-knee amputee to summit Mount Everest in May,
Lord, we ask you to bless those who have lost limbs through warfare. May we, as a church, welcome and support those whose mobility is difficult for whatever reason.

What help is available to Veterans nowadays, especially those who have lost their sight? Blind Veterans UK helps vision-impaired ex-Servicemen and women to rebuild their lives after sight loss. ‘We provide rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support to veterans regardless of how or when they lost their sight. We’re here to help blind veterans regain their independence and live the life they choose.’
Rob - Blind veteran, on being trained to use a smartphone says…… "I could get back on social media and start being part of society and what it is to be a normal young man. Because, at 23, I'd thought, that’s it."
Lord, we pray for those who have lost their sight due to serving in the forces. We ask that we may be aware and conscious of those in our churches whose sight is not as it once was. May we have open arms to welcome them and open hearts to help and guide them. Amen.

What help is available to Veterans nowadays? The Royal British Legion is famous for its work.
When Army veteran Steve was at risk of becoming homeless, he reached out to RBL for support.
Steve joined the Armed Forces in 1989 and served during the Op Desert Storm, but suffered a serious leg injury in 1996 when he fell 20ft from a lorry. That one moment changed his life.
After 14 operations, Steve was medically discharged but t still suffers a lot of pain. For a while, he worked in sales, but the effects of his injury became too much to bear and he had to stop working. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Steve began to struggle and was worried about becoming homeless. "I hit rock bottom, losing my job, my marriage and my house in a short period,” explains Steve. In desperation, I rang RBL and they were fantastic, they got me into a hostel and I stayed there for three months during lockdown.”
After securing Steve safe accommodation the RBL helped him find a new home in time for Christmas, as well as a mobility scooter, new furnishings and covering his removal costs. He received support from 2 workers with the RBL and says….. "I know they both have so many clients to care for, especially during Covid-19, but I never felt that I was just a client, I never felt that I was just a name on a list.”
May God bless all our Veterans who are going through difficult times.

Remembrance Day. Peace. Veterans.
Veterans. Last Sunday we stood in solemn silence remembering those who have died in warfare, but what about those who survived? There are many Veterans from so many conflicts who are living among us still.
Veterans have served us to ensure our freedoms. Their needs vary once they’ve been discharged from active duty. Veterans are proud of their service to our nation.
We need to pray for our Veterans and to simply thank God for giving us people willing to sacrifice their own lives so that we can have a better life.
Heavenly Father, we give thanks for the Veterans who have faithfully served this country while being separated from their families. We thank you for their bravery in the face of danger and for their courage in facing unknown hazards.
Thank you for their return home from far away duties. We are grateful for their willingness to defend our country in the cause of peace. Bless them and their families Lord. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Collect (special prayer) for today: Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the devil and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life: grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure; that when he shall appear in power and great glory we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Gospel reading tells the story of the Parable of the Talents.

Peace Week Many aspects to the word ‘Peace’, but what does Jesus Himself say?
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” - Jesus, Prince of Peace.

Peace Week - Wise Words
We are not at peace with others because we are not at peace with ourselves, and we are not at peace with ourselves because we are not at peace with God Thomas Merton
When man turns his back on the Creator's plan, he provokes a disorder which has inevitable repercussions on the rest of the created order. If man is not at peace with God, then earth itself cannot be at peace. Pope John Paul II

The Nobel Peace Prize. We’ve all heard of it but do we know why?
Alfred Nobel was a famous inventor and the man behind the iconic Nobel Prize awards. He was born in Sweden in 1833 and became famous for his inventions and his work with explosives – he invented dynamite!
The greatest legacy of Alfred Nobel are the Nobel Prizes which are for physics, chemistry, medicine and literature, and peace. These prizes are handed out annually in a ceremony held in Nobel’s hometown of Stockholm.
The Nobel Peace Prize is often considered the most famous of the prizes and according to Nobel’s will, stipulated that it was to be awarded to the person "who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".
Alfred Nobel died in 1896 and left 95% of his wealth in order to fund the prizes and he did so because he was fearful of how he would be remembered following his death. Nobel had spent his whole life creating explosives and weapons that could be used to kill people and he didn’t want to be remembered that way. As one can imagine, the decision to leave so much of his money to this foundation was not well-met by everyone who had been close to him.
Its list of winners includes Martin Luther King, Jr. Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Mikhail Gorbachev, Aung San Suu Kyi, Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Jimmy Carter, and Barack Obama
Let there be peace on earth.

Peace Week
His peace, He has given you, His peace, He leaves behind His peace is like nothing else you are ever going to find.
His peace is reassuring, it is like a soothing balm His peace fills you with joy a sense of perpetual calm.
His peace is like the ocean, as it ebbs upon the shore His peace is like a rainbow promising life evermore.
His peace is everlasting, it will never cease or end His peace is in knowing He is your eternal friend.
His peace is like the dew, settling on the early morn His peace is like the soft face of a child, newly born.
His peace will follow you, throughout your entire day His peace He has given you He’ll never take it away!

Good morning :-)
The last week has been very much focused on remembering those who died in conflict. This week our focus turns to something we all pray for……………..peace, in all its forms..
Portrait of Peace Once there was a king who offered to give a prize to an artist who could best paint a depiction of peace. Many artists decided to participate and sent the king their masterpieces.
Among the various masterpieces, one picture was of a calm lake closely resembling peacefully towering snow-capped mountains where a blue sky with fluffy clouds was overheard. The picture was exemplary. Most of those who viewed the paintings of peace from different artists thought that this painting was the best among all others.
But the king had another winner in mind. To the crowd’s surprise, the picture that won was of a mountain too but was more plain and rugged than the other piece. The sky was shady and looked angry because there was lightning. It was exactly the opposite of what peace should look like. The others thought that maybe the artist submitted a wrong painting showing storm rather than peace.
What others didn’t notice was that if you look closely at the painting, there is a tiny bush growing in the cracks of a rock. In the bush, there is a nest built by a mother bird and in the midst of the stormy weather, the bird sits peacefully on her nest.
In that specific portrait, it was depicted that in the presence of all the turmoil, there is still someone who can be calm in his or her heart. Lord, give us peace in our hearts.

Hello all
I'm pleased that you're back Cynthia.
At 11am I was in the village library where everyone present observed the traditional 2minutes silence.
In Flanders Field.
In Flanders fields the poppies grow. Between the crosses row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the lark still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. Written by Lt. Col. John McCrea in 1915.
"Lest We Forget."

Apologies for missing.
Almost as long as there has been life, war has been a part of it. Mankind continues to wage war even though the consequences often breed nothing but misery. However, when a person is called to defend his or her country, or protect other defenceless people, it is his duty to fight. There is no question that there is evil in the world and we must not rest on our laurels and say it is none of our business. We cannot stand by and watch while others are being persecuted. It is the duty of mankind to uphold justice. Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
We remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.
Remember those who served before. Remember those who are no more. Remember those who serve today. Remember as we eat and play. Remember our protectors who are not home today. Remember them all on Remembrance Day.

Remembrance week
A week of remembrance.
Remember those who died. Those we loved, the one’s who cried. As I sit here in my room, I picture the banging and the boom. I try to pull myself together as I lie: They gave their lives to keep us free. To save the innocent like you and me. I am thankful for no war, As we wear our poppies in remorse: Let’s work together to keep this country ours And on each Remembrance Day to wear a flower So put on a smile and don’t sigh, Stay together and keep your head held high, If we stand together, no one will break our power.
