Good morning :-)

In today's Advent Calendar, we seek God's guidance....

Today's Quotation ... “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6

Today’s Reflection … In the New Testament the Holy Spirit is called a counsellor. He is one who gives sound advice, who is close enough to the situation to understand what needs to be done. Many people live in the darkness of confusion, weighed down by the decisions that they need to make. In God we have one who is the supreme counsellor. He can bring light and direction into even the most confusing of situations. It may be that during this Advent you are facing a difficult decision and are not sure what direction to take. Ask the Wonderful Counsellor for light and direction.

Today's Prayer…Wonderful Counsellor, we ask for your guidance at this time. Help us to take the right paths and the correct decisions. Lord be our guide. And even when we take a wrong turning, help us to trust that you are with us, healing, restoring and forgiving. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Advent Act of Kindness…Say something positive to everyone you speak to today.

Love, Cx

Good evening - yes, one of those days!

2018 ADVENT CALENDAR

Today's Quotation ... "On those living in the land of deep darkness, a light has dawned."

Today's Reflection…The writer and director Woody Allen wrote: "It's not that I am afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens". But we are there. Dying is a certainty of living. We cannot escape it. Many face either the fear of death or the numbing pain of bereavement. In the midst of such a reality of darkness there is the promise of God that the light will shine. "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me." The promise is for the light of the presence of God to be with those going through the valley of darkness

Today's Prayer…Lord, have mercy on all those who are living in the place of the shadow of death. Those in that valley coping with terminal illness or those who have lost loved ones. God, who is light, bring strength, hope and comfort today. Amen.

Today’s Advent Act of Kindness…make peace with someone you have hurt or disagreed with.

Advent Calendar 2018

TODAY'S QUOTATION : "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light" Isaiah 9:2a

TODAY'S REFLECTION: Let's begin our Advent journey by thinking about those who live in darkness. They may be on the other side of the world from us, or right next door. There are many reasons for walking in darkness - fear, loneliness, oppression, depression, poverty or violence are just a few. God sees those in darkness and becomes light for them.

TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, we name before you those we know who are going through times of darkness. We think of them and ask gracious God, that you may bring them light, hope, love and direction. In Jesus' name. Amen.

TODAY'S ADVENT ACT OF KINDNESS: Buy something extra to donate to a foodbank.

Good morning :-)

Lovely to hear from you both and thank you for your good wishes. I am not too bad at all but my daughter is still struggling so we are not quite there yet.

For today...…

To end our time of Celtic blessings….one of the most loved …

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
(traditional gaelic blessing)

I am hoping to post the start of an Advent Calendar later today. :-)

Love Cx :-)

Oh dear Cynthia, poor you. I hope you are not in too much pain and that you and your daughter recover quickly. You certainly have your hands full and I appreciate you finding time to keep posting.

I think most of us love the Celtic prayers and blessings. They seem to blend the “everyday” with the spiritual in a special way.

Happy St Andrews day to all our Scottish friends. God bless.

Good morning :-)

It's been a bit of a week here. My knee gave way on Monday and I hit the deck, banging my face on the wall and landing on a little blow heater. I do not recommend it! I am careful with my knee and my side is gradually getting less painful. On top of that, our daughter is having bad reactions to a new medication and so she is staying with us for a few days. Talking about living in a home for the bewildered.......sheeesh. We press on!

Continuing our Celtic week

In our coming and going,
guide us,
in our living and our being,
protect us,
in our seeing and our hearing,
enrich us,
in our thinking and our speaking,
inspire us,
in our arriving and our departing,
preserve us.

Good morning and thank you Emma :-)

A Celtic prayer for those stressful days - we all have them.....

Calm me, O Lord, as You stilled the storm.
Still me, O Lord, keep me from harm.

Let all the tumult within me cease.
Enfold me, Lord, in Your peace.

Father, bless the work that is done
and the work that is to be.

Father, bless the servant that I am
and the servant that I will be. Amen.

A lovely Celtic blessing....

If there is righteousness in the heart,
there will be beauty in the character.
If there is beauty in the character,
there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
there will be peace in the world.
So let it be.
(Scottish Blessing)

Good morning :-)

In this world where so many are homeless, we are blessed if we have a home, be it a modest flat or a mighty mansion. Another Celtic blessing on our homes…..

God bless the corners of this house and all the lintels blessed,
And bless the hearth and bless the board and bless each place of rest,
And bless each door that opens wide to strangers as to kin,
And bless each crystal window pane that lets the starlight in,
And bless the rooftree overhead and every sturdy wall.
The peace of man. The peace of God. With peace and love for all. Amen.

That was a good total raised for your church Cynthia. Well done to you and all the other helpers who made the Christmas Fair a success. I hope you get your defibrillator.

Thank you for this week’s posts.

Yesterday we heard that yet another of our family, a brother-in-law, has had a diagnosis of cancer and is shortly to undergo a major operation. I have been amazed at the strength and resilience of those in our family who are coping with this horrid illness and it made me think of those who don’t have a loving family and friends to support them. God grant them the strength they need.

Kandj is still in my thoughts <3

Good morning :-)

Sorry I missed yesterday - it was a bit busy as it was our church Christmas Fair. Our son came over to sit with his dad whilst I sailed off to make speciality coffees.... :-D

A very busy and very good day - crowds of people and a total of £1800 raised. We are hoping to buy a defibrillator for church because of the large crowds which pass through.

Today is the Feast of Christ the King

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

God the Father, help us to hear the call of Christ the King and to follow in his service, whose Kingdom has no end; for he reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God one glory. Amen.

The gospel reading is from John and is where Pilate asks Jesus ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’

Good morning :-)

Lord on this day I am aware of the troubles and darkness in our world.

Please come and lead me in prayers for my com-munity, my nation and the world. You are the light that shines in the bleakest times, let your Kingdom be built on earth.

May those who suffer be comforted, may those who are at war search for peace, and may those who are in pain find healing. Amen.

May Thursday be a hope filled day,
That floods my fears with light,
A day that quiets all anxious thoughts
As I encounter Christ.
Let Thursday always prompt my heart
To stop and find Your peace,
And live upon the truth You give
My eyes to You I lift. Amen.

Good afternoon :-)

Eventually got on here after all the hoo ha about the security issue mentioned on JC's thread. What a pain it has been.

In busy days of noise and action
- and especially when my journey seems long
and my energy is spent -
lead me to be still, Lord,
and discover anew
that you are with me. Amen.

Good morning :-)

Oh my goodness! How lovely to hear from both Vera and Emma......I was delighted to see your names and thank you for your kind words. <3

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

Heavenly Father,
whose blessed Son was revealed
to destroy the works of the devil
and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:
grant that we, having this hope,
may purify ourselves even as he is pure;
that when he shall appear in power and great glory
we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;
where he is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The reading for today is taken from Mark and tells of the destruction of the temple and Jesus talking about the coming of the end times.

Love to all Cx :-)
