Good morning :-)

I do like making people laugh I must admit......not the slapstick kind of laughter but love the play on words type. I used to enjoy the two Ronnies for that reason. :-D :-D

As for the crazy golf etc....it's a NO from me. I think there is a time and a place. It smacks of desperation which, in my eyes, shows a lack of faith. I have read several times, that services such as choral evensong are making a big comeback - people are looking for that quiet, reflective but uplifting type of worship - if they want a helter skelter, they can go to Alton Towers. Here endeth the first lesson!! :-D

Ahem....I had better move on!

A newly ordained deacon gave us a sermon yesterday and it was well worth while listening to. He brought in the importance of our prayer lives and it made me think of the prayers of the saints, people whose lives have had a great Christian influence in the world.

Today:

The Prayer of Saint Richard

Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen.

I will now return to the helter-skelter which defines my life! :-D

Good morning

@ Cynthia :-D :-D :-D :-D. It’s lovely to start the day with a smile. I have enjoyed reading the “short and sweet week” prayers and look forward to the coming week.

I have been thinking about the helter skelter in Norwich Cathedral and the mini golf in Rochester. I understand why the authorities are doing this but I do wonder if any of the people who enter the church to have a go on the attraction will be inspired to visit for a service and how will they assess the effectiveness of this type of outreach? Perhaps I am being old fashioned but I am uncomfortable with this. What do you think?

God bless

Good morning :-)

Did you know that Moses wore a wig? We are told that sometimes he walked with Aaron and sometimes he didn't! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

The Collect (special prayer) for today

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,
we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern us in the ways of your laws
and the works of your commandments;
that through your most mighty protection,
both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

In the gospel reading from Luke, Jesus warns us to be aware that the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.

Good morning :-D <3 Law giver Moses lived a very long time, and no one knows where he's buried.
Enoch walked and talked with God and was spared the pain of death.

Good morning :-)

I heard about those power cuts - not very pleasant for all those involved. Hope the issue is soon sorted.

Yes, lots of old age in the bible......Methuselah especially. :-D

Short and sweet week

Father in Heaven,

Thank you for watching over me as I slept through the night. Your hands of comfort and strength held me as You watched over me. Father, I love You. You love me so much and I am in awe of how amazing You truly are. As I begin my day, I simply pray that you walk with me and lead me where you please. May Your will be done this day. Amen.

Good afternoon all :-D <3

My PC's just back on after a power cut Cynthia. A nearby Metro train came to a

stand still until it was restored. It's all happening. Two or three generations ago

we didn't have electricity. We had coal or gas and candles.

Something I find difficult to comprehend is that it says "The years of a man are

threescore and ten, ten more if he's strong" Not everyone makes it that far.

In the OT there are mentionings of people living for hundreds of years.

I had a computer on go slow this morning...……….sigh

Short and sweet week.

Dear God, help me every morning to find faith in the midst of all the chaos. Give me the desire and ability to see You, hear You, talk to You, and give thanks to You. As I do, I pray that I will draw nearer and nearer to You, and that my faith will multiply infinitely as I understand in new, deeper ways that You are everything I ever hoped You would be. And so much more. Amen.

For this new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends.

We thank Thee, dearest Lord. Amen.

The hill of Crosses commemorates a lot of man's inhumanity to man.

That was an unknown fact to me David. Interesting.

Short and sweet week.

Father, I have to thank You for looking beyond my faults and for loving me unconditionally. Forgive me when I fail to love others in the same way. Give me eyes to see the needs of the difficult people in my life, and show me how to meet those needs in a way that pleases You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Despite having demolished three times by the Russians the 200 year old

Hill of Crosses continues to grown in Lithuania, marking unmarked graves.

There are an estimated 200,000 crosses on the hill.

Good morning everyone :-)

Yes, so much bad news :-( and yet, there is so much good in the world which simply doesn't get reported..... :-(

A short and sweet week.

Father, I thank you for another day
I don’t know what this day might bring
Therefore, I put my trust in You
Fill me with your peace
The peace that surpasses all understanding.
Thank you Lord. Amen.

At this time it is upsetting to hear of all
disasters and killings going on in the world.

One would hope that we learn from the senseless
killing of others but I very much doubt it.

My prayers for those affected by the flooding, mass shooting
and the small child hoping he recovers soon x

A personal opinion. This is the year 2019, not the wild west of a centuary ago.

People don't need guns. The Police and the Military have them.

In El Paso Texas is an example of what happens when anyone is allowed a gun.

One unstable man kills and wounds over 40 people at will. :-0 :-|

Continuing prayers for all those affected by the flooding in Whaley Bridge, the mass shootings in the US and the horrific incident at The Tate yesterday.

A short and sweet week.

Dear Lord Jesus, we have this day only once; before it is gone, help us to do all the good we can, so that it is not wasted. Amen.

Good morning :-)

The people of Whaley Bridge are still waiting anxiously to see what will happen to the dam and some more dreadful news of a mass shooting in the US. Lord, we pray for the people who are affected by these and other disasters. Bless those who mourn and support those who comfort them. We thank you for the skill of the emergency services who work tirelessly to help others and for the medical staff who are treating the injured. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Collect (special prayer) for today :

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: graft in our hearts the love of your name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of your great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The gospel tells the parable of the rich fool.
