The following was posted by Daff on November the 24th 2007

She had her Christmas name of Peace on Earth.........

I love GR

particularly General. I put most of the following up on another thread, and that has gone.. so I am putting it up again.

I wasn't here last night, or earlier today, but from some of the comments, I gather there might have been a few problems. Often happens, and unfortunately there are a very few people who take a warped pleasure in stirring up trouble.
I take my family history research very seriously.

However, when I am tired of wading through all the Jones and Roberts to knock down my brick wall, I come on here either for a bit of fun, or to catch up with what's been happening in my cyber friends' daily lives.

On General, I can ask my numpty questions and no-one minds, and I always get sound advice as a result.
I can laugh, and have a joke.. and do silly things like designing tin hats and learning how to milk a yak (these were fun threads put up specifically to counter-balance some nasty ones)

I can join in and tell people my memories of my favourite film, or things from my youth such as .. make-up, perfume, fashion, pop group, chat about incidents and funny sayings, favourite ancestor's name or occupation, join in quizzes..
Things we remember Granny saying.. local sayings not often heard these days, places visited and how we would have got there. And so much more

I can become involved in fund-raising, and good will stuff, or just become more aware of issues and pass that awareness on to others in my *real world*

I pop in and out of Tips, as there is always good advice if I look for it.

I pop into chat every so often, but not often. I know that I would be made welcome there if I wished to spend more time there, though.

And I have had some brilliant connections with Hot Tips.. had new ones just a week ago and on my brick wall line, too.

Loads to keep me occupied, as you can tell.

Every month or so, there is a spate of unpleasantness. A bit like real life, isn't it? A very tiny minority try to make things difficult for the majority. But it will always be the way.

Finally (ish!!). This thread, this board, this site will be an invaluable research tool for my Grandaughters and their generation.

What an insight these boards give into the minds and lives of the people who lived in the naughties.. their likes, dislikes, their thoughts, and fears, and prayers, hopes and dreams.
What moved them to tears, and what made them howl with laughter, the compassion, the sorrow, the love and the support, in fact the whole gamut of emotions. History in the making, don't you think?

How I wish I had all of this goldmine of insight into the lives, loves and feelings of my grandparents and ancestors.

Now that is what geneology is all about, for me. Be it the Geneologist of today, or the Geneologist of the future.

Even the spats have some future historical reference, lol!! in so far as... well, nothing changes, really.

Love

Daff xxx

Aaaw thanks Joy, I'm fine...I have so many good memories and recalling those is exactly what Daff would approve of. If I didn't I'd hear her threatening to 'smack my botty' :-D

Yes raised my glass of the red stuff.

:-D :-D Sue, yep the batteries wouldn't outlast Daff. She was though, always so thoughtful about my hearing problems.

What a caring lady she was. I'd hardly 'talked' to her at the time so was touched to receive a pm when I was having that aged parents worry that so many have.
She was always so friendly :-D

I'd hoped to meet her but our holiday in Wales was postponed at the last minute so didn't coincide with the meet.

Raising a cup of char to Daff :-D

Ann, you'd have problems being on the phone for 6 hours...your batteries would be flat :-P

The framed photo of Simon Cowell is still in it's place in the sitting room..lolol

We had a thread up about Daff escaping from hospital dragging her drip trolley along the M4 in hot pursuit of Simon (I think)

:-D

When I spoke to Mr. Daff yesterday I told him this was going up :-D I mentioned the part about Daff groping my OH and he said "funny, how he never complained" ;-) ;-) He thought his luck had changed :-D

I agree with those sentiments Susan (Not that I ever spent 6 hours on the phone with Daff, all day here though and of course she never stopped talking and we laughed all day. However, what I was going to say. With friends and relations no matter how poorly she was, Daff always put them before herself. there are not many people of whom you can say that.

Susan10146857 Report 19 Nov 2012 12:48

Actually Sue....6 hours was the record with Daff. :-D we also researched lots of Genealogy in between ad libbing about anything that came to mind. she was an intelligent lady as well as one of the wittiest people I have known.

No matter how ill she was she thought about those in distress and tried to help.

Cheers to my friend Daffy and thinking of Mr Daff on this day.

I wasn't as fortunate as those who knew Daff as close friends and had been in her company , but I have' spoken' to her on and off the boards and what a wonderful lady.
So many peeps who haven't met Daff have spoken so highly of her, it speaks volumes . She had that something special ,whether face to face or mail contact that made her ' our Daff ' loved by so many.

Remembering you today Daff and thinking of Mr Daff and family who must treasure and be proud to have so many wonderful memories (countless I guess) that out-shadow the sad <3

Oh yes, talking of the sunburn at Peterborough, which I didn't witness because I wasn't there. But proof of Daff's rather fondness for the red liquid.

Well, at swansea, she and R had a bottle and T and I had a bottle. Not content with drinking hers, she pinched and drank most of, my glass!!! Hilarious and she was not a bit contrite!!! :-D
