NHS direct use the brand name vaseline on their website as opposed to petroleum jelly etc....so the brand name excuse......that's a non starter. Basically....it's too much hassle to tackle the rr'er direct.. it's easier to just remove threads that don't break the t and c's of the site rather than tackle the root of the problem head on and pay out money to block isp addresses...which is what WOULD solve this..

Clearly they can't be bothered to and we're all left in limbo not knowing what the sensitive little flower (or who) they will choose to be *offended* by next.

Hello all

As the originator of the wooshed thread can I add my little bit.

I am not on Facebook so haven't seen the comments on there. I did receive an email from GR when I queried why, when the posts had been reinstated, they were then reported again and the whole thread finally deleted.

The email did not give any explanation.

I can only assume that as V*****e is a registered name the thread could be loosely considered as advertising, although many registered names have become generic descritions for similar products.

What annoys me is that you are told you have breached the T & C's of the site but not in which particular manner.

It's a bit like being hauled into court, found guilty of an offence and fined. But at the end of the day you still do not know what you have done so you can't take steps to avoid a repeat offence.

The other matter is that four or five posts were reported: if they breached the T & C's fine, delete them. But the entire thread??

Mind you, off topic, I really enjoyed the thread while it lasted and was suprised that it actually reached 15 pages: and confession time, I only started it out of sheer devilment to see if it would be reported.

I really enjoyed it. Did keep getting glances from the family wondering what I was giggling at.

I think that once a thread becomes obvious banter, then if you don't like 'that sort of thing', stay off it.

I have been more bothered by some of the replies I see on the threads, especially to newbies.

I would love to know who is reporting us all but unless it's a deathbed confession, I don't see it happening.

How about starting an 'It isn't me thread'?

bosh and twaddle...

many people were popping on the Vaseline thread that hadnt been seen in months and were really enjoying sitting having a laugh,,,,it was all innocent inoffensive fun as well GR team know.,,,,,no T&C were rocked,,,,fastest any board has moved in weeks,

There was nothing offensive about that thread at all. End of.

What needs to be dealt with are the mindless idiots who come on here every so often and cause havoc by clicking on 'Report' for no apparent reason! How and why are they getting away with it??? :-(

I must be on another GR web site?

thousands of posts a day ?

most boards in recent times hardly move apart from this the general board

today, genealogy chat and find living relatives board have little more than one page of movement and find ancestors has only 4 pages

just posted on the thread on FB where they posted that the team had thought removing the thread was the best option ................... lots of VERY angry posts on that thread as a result :-D

This is the response from GR, posted about 10 minutes ago .................

Hi everyone - I'm very sorry for the upset this has caused. It has only just come to my attention, but I will be speaking to the team involved and making sure that there are consistent reasons as to when and why threads are permanently removed. This is an awkward situation for us because what some may deem as 'banter', others may find offensive. But this is no excuse for the inconsistent decisions. The boards are meant to be a place for fun, safe and friendly chat and we do our best to ensure this is how they are used but with thousands of posts a day this is can be a difficult task. Katie - Product Manager.

she does have a point re banter for some might be offensive to others ............... although no-one has to read any thread that seems as though it might to offensive

let's hope that things change :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 May 2012 19:37

It has to rate as very near the top of the very worst decisions GR has ever made!

This is what I have just posted on that thread on FB ...................

GR ........ you were joking surely?!

"In this case they did feel that the best option was to remove thread as it was becoming quite out of hand and causing quite a lot of unnecessary work for the team."

The best option for WHO?

Were the team worried about losing sleep ......... after all it was the night shift who removed the post the second time AND then removed the thread. I know that, because I was around when it happened

I think this ranks very near the top of the very worst decisions that you have ever made!

Pray tell me why I should continue posting on GR (after helping with thousands of inquiries over the years so you can boast about how good the Community Boards are), if you will remove any post or thread that someone complains about, whether or not it is true, because "it's causing too much work"?

Give me 3 very good reasons why I should renew next week if this is the sort of thing that is going to happen?

------------

won't have any effect though!!

They just close their eyes to what is posted on the Boards.

I don't think anyone from GR ever really reads anything we post anyway.
