This thread reminded me of a school holiday back when my children were young.

We pitched a tent in the back garden, we cooked on bbq & I slept out there with them.

A stay vacation?

When the offspring were a lot younger (under 11) we had what I considered to be a great school summer holiday with them.

Firstly, we had a stall at a boot fair and raised £49, which meant c£7 pw entertainment money. You probably couldn't do it now!

So each week, we tried to do one 'special' thing.
Swimming.
Council run puppet show - there was probably a small charge.
Trip to the seaside + an icecream
A different park with another family.
Go fly a kite + an icecream

As a family, we probably went away once every 3 years. Now they have more or less flown the nest, we are SKI's :-D

Real exotic Muffy. !!!!!!!. But at least at the allotment we have deck chairs and camping gear. Can brew up and make a Bacon Sarnie. Both always taste nicer down there.

Muffyxx Report 21 Mar 2012 09:25

Oh don't feel guilty about yours Ann !! lol. I don't begrudge anyone a break believe me.

Well except for the ones round here that sit on their bums and do nothing but still get to go away .....that annoys me...not folk like you lol .

We were hoping to borrow a caravan from a friend of a friend and go to Wales.....but it's unlikely to happen now.unfortunately..

.we're lucky really as we live 20 minutes from the coast so we can make do. with day trips. I'm not bothered about going abroad really. There's lovely places in the UK we'd love to visit first.

Maybe next year ! x

Oh dear I feel guilty becaus we manage to have several holidays in the year, and I feel sad for those who are unable to afford a break.

However I have to add that we didn't have many holidays when the children were growing up, well not exotic/expensive ones anyway. We managed a few in chalets or caravans and a couple at Butlins, we never took them abroad, the remainder of our holidays were at the homes of friends in Cornwall. so I do know how you feel. And of course even days out are expensive because of the price of petrol/diesel.
