Where I was born chip butties were popular - thick-cut plain old ordinary white bread with chips and lots of salt and vinegar on them.

Where I lived previously it was a bread roll with chips - same idea though.

Now, Joy, where I live (guess where), it's stotties with chips, salt and vinegar.

Whichever way you have it a chip butty with salt and vinegar is great (but only occasionally!).

Granda was a Geordie & I was brought up on stottie or oven bottom cake.
In Birmingham I have seen T***o advertising crusty white bloomers. Puts you off a bit.
Queen Victoria wore bloomers!!!

Snot.... was known as Green Gilberts where I come from ....and bread rolls were known as Tuff's.

It's my thread that's missing - where is it? I spoke about chip butties in various forms - with lashings of salt and vinegar.

What's wrong with thick-cut white bread, with bread rolls or with stotties - all containing chips with salt and vinegar?

Our two wore daps when we lived in the Forest of Dean but I never knew what that stood for. gym shoes in Bedfordshire where we lived, plimpsoles when I was at school.

Ann, did you have Bedfordshire Clangers when you lived there?

I've never heard the word Fadge before now and didn't know what twit spelt with an 'a' meant until Julia put me right yesterday. I've led a sheltered life, you know ;-)

I do call bogeys Green Gilberts though :-D
