Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 26 Sep 2011 03:05

Maybe the chap is away from home at the mo, on holiday or business, so not contactable altho I would have thought the police could trace him from the phone or by contacting one of the banks or c.cd people.

He is lucky your hubby is an honest person, some people wouldn't bother and would have as was said, had a field day with all the valuables in the bag.

Hope you hear something, keep us posted.

I would give the station a ring and see if the man got it back ok. He might have been ill or something.
I would have handed it in too and if offered a reward I would accept if I was sure the person could afford it,an give it to charity.

Well he is an honest man and that's to be admired because I don't think everyone would do that - sadly. I hope he does get a 'thank you' because he deserves to have his honesty acknowledge.

to be fair it would be nice to get a thank you,my hubby handed over almost a thousand pounds worth of phones and i pods, plus money, cards and pin numbers,if he was not an honest person, he could have had a field day.x :-)

I would imagine that if the gentleman got his stuff back the police wouldn't tell him who handed it in - it would be a privacy issue. After all some people would not like a stranger to have their name and phone number. Silly I know but the police have to be so careful these days.

Karen's posting sounds a good suggestion, as it happened to me many, many years ago.

I had two little ones under 2 years and must have put my purse on the roof of the car prior to loading them into the back seat. I was oblivious to the fact I had lost my purse - hadn't needed it again that day. My husband turned up some hours later with it, as he had a call to say it had been found some distance from where I loaded the car. (Some phone numbers were in the purse.)

Just wish the person who found my handbag hanging on a trolley in Morrisons carpark had been as honest about 10 years ago.

Elisabeth - who now sounds totally idiotic.

Well done to your hubby for handing it in. It's good to know there are honest people around.

I'm wondering if the manbag had been put on the roof of the car while the man opened/unlocked the car door, and then he forgot....it's not uncommon, especially if he had other things in his hands, ie shopping, or a newspaper, or perhaps when he was at the petrol station?
This might explain why the bag was in the road. Doesn't seem like it had been stolen, since the cash, cards and phones etc were still inside. It seems that everything was inside except a set of keys.
He wouldn't have noticed he was without the bag until, perhaps, many many miles later!!! Poor bloke is probably having 40 fits!!

K

P.S. Susanne - did you keep a note of the chap's name/address? It might be worth phoning to let him know it's been found and handed in - especially as he isnt local and is possibly on holiday or travelling.....except since he no longer has money or credit cards he's probably gone home!!!!!!!

Hi Suzanne......

maybe it was stolen and the thief did'nt have time to take anything out before he dropped it.
Who ever the owner of the bag is, fancy having all that cash and cards in one bag??
Fingers crossed the owner is found:)

hi everyone.
we know the bag had not been stolen because it contained money and phones, which are the things a thief would take first.it was a small bag (like a womans clutch bag) and it was lying on the pavement near the road in the middle of our local village, all i can think of ismaybe the man was carrying grocerys and the bag slipped tothe floor without him noticing.x :-D

Well done Suzanne's hubby I hope he gets a thank you.

A couple of years ago my mum who is in her 80s was walking through a big department store and she pick something up off the floor, bit further on she picked something else up when she got to the back of the store she looke and it was 50 pound note and a 10 pound note, she handed them in, and a month and a day later nobody had calimed them so mum got the 60 pounds.

Well done, Suzanne's hubby for being honest. So few of you these days. As Annina and others said, this was probably stolen. And dumped.

Years ago, when Oh and I were just married and very poor, we were walking in the snow and we found £40 cash. We picked it up and told our local police station. They said we could have it so we went to the nearest Berni Inn. I often think about that, it was a lot of money in those days and although we enjoyed our steaks we could never have afforded to buy them ourselves.

Well done for handing it in.

A couple of years ago,in the depths of a freezing cold spell,my Hubby found a rucksack nestling behind our shed, and on investigating it found that it contained someones chequebook and numerous credit cards.

It had obviously been stolen and dumped there when the thieves had finished it. We popped it into the car and took it to the nearest police station, when we got inside the toasty warm reception area the bag had thawed out and reeked of every tomcat within a million miles spraying on it.

The young WPC,eyes watering, refused to touch it without rubber gloves, but did manage to trace the grateful owner, who explained that it had been pinched from his car when he nipped into the shop for 5minutes.

We never did find out what he thought of the enhanced aroma that it had gained since being stolen.

stupid to have all the cards and pins together was going to say was probably an older person but with a ipod, iphone and blackberry not so sure.

Good on your hubby for being so honest lets hope the owner acknowledges him.

I am also warmed by this kind act, if the police give it to your husband and the owner is traced by you he (your husband) deserves a pat on the back for double honesty.
I also wonder how it came to be lost in the first place.
