Am tired of telling gdau re bargains in charity shops, keep telling her to check in her area for designer numbers (Wimbledon) and works Greenwich but has she listened to gma???? Told her as long as she can wash/dryclean, buy it!!!! I did finally say to her which suit of gdads do you prefer - looks good in both gma and then I told her that he had purchased both some 8 years ago for about £18 the two - brandnew and wool! He had outgrown his suits and was going to tailors when I spotted one, asked them to hold, dragged him over and he bought both! Being retired and a golfer rarely wears a suit but there are those occasions.

It does not often cross my mind to go into charity shops. But I looked in a local one a while ago and came across a sweater that reminded me of one that I had somehow lost several weeks before.

Only cost £3 and fits perfectly. Well pleased with it.

Only trouble is that wife and daughter burst out laughing every time they see me wearing it.

i often venture in charirty shops for my books, then i pass them round my friends,

when i was younger i wouldnt stand outside one never mind go in, lol, funny how you change as you get older x

Morning Ladies, thanks for your imput to the thread. I am glad I am not the only one who values the Charity Shops, which for me, and many others, not only means buying but donating also.
I have been wearing for the last two winters, a thigh length, fuchsia pink, wool/cashmere coat bought from Oxfam for £8. It has been my favourite.
Angelsong, - no need to move the top button. Such is the style of the coat that, it is best worn open, and I do not like my coats 'done-up'. LOL. Makes me look like a Tellytubby.
Dawnie - hot pants indeed.LOL. That brings back memories, but unless you are of the very brave young thing variety, it is abit too cold here in Derbyshire at the moment for them.

I have had many a good bargain from charity shops over the years. My current warm duffle coat style fleecy coat was only £5 from a charity shop in King's Lynn while I was holidaying near there one year and my favourite fleece jacket was even cheaper at another charity shop. My snowboots too came from a charity shop for £5 and I rarely buy new handbags as the charity shops always have great ones.

My son has visited some in other areas when working there and also ones locally and found lots of designer stuff, also has found things like skis and surfboards and sold them on ebay to make himself a little profit.
He currently wears a super pure wool jacket that was new but only cost £6, he looked on the store site of the shop it came from and it would have cost 9 times that from the store.


Enjoy wearing your Driza-bone coat Julia. If you look on Driza-bone site they have long macs for £194.00!! You really got a bargain. A friend of mine has one that she got in a charity sale years back and it looks great still.

I took some of my dau's clothes there last week, a faux leather jaket with fur hood worn once ! ( I tried it on first cos I liked it ), but whilst she doesn't do up casual coats ,I do and it was a tad tight.Good imitation leather, I thought it was real ....moaned at her for only wearing it once,then disposing of it and she then said it was faux leather.Still a good buy for someone.
Whilst there the assistant said about their Xmas cards reduced................
I had 4 packs of cards(10 in a pack) each for 19p reduced from £3.49.
She admitted that most of the staff had bought them:)

Actually a friend and i went away for a week in October. We went into Ferndown one day and he insisted on dragging me around all the charity shops in search of books. In the third shop, as i stood there tapping my foot impatiently, i noticed a bit of sparkle coming from the mens jacket rail. I pulled out the garment to find that it was in fact a ladies jacket. A Khaki green, brand new ,light weight, military style that is quite the fashion at the moment. It had gold brading on the shoulders and cuffs and on the back, a splendid gold embroidered and sequined emblem. It is made by Denim/co and right up my street!! I tried it on and it was the perfect fit. It was priced at £5.00 but when i got to the till, the assistant noticed that the belt was missing...........i dont do belts so i was'nt worried about that. Ok, said the assistant, lets say £4.00 then!!! Gawgiss it is!!

I thought rather than going for the English country look, I'd go more for the American Wild West look. I did see an appropriate leather hat yesterday, and am toying with the idea. But I think a Buntline Special, would be a wonderful accessory in the circumstances.LOL
