Dermot, your words are grossly inflammatory, and the sole purpose of your posting them.

Ah but some of those grockles like the place sooo much, they buy cottages to stay in, in the Summer.
Come the winter, they go back to their 'town' house and the village is deserted! there are locals who can no longer afford to buy the few houses that may be on the market.
I used to live in Mevagissey - this is over 40 years ago. Not only were there lots of empty houses, a lot of the businesses closed for the winter too! It's much worse now.
Mind you - there was one 'up' side.
I used to collect Trolls, and buy clothes for them. We must have lived there for about 2 months (moved in in about August), all the summer visitors had gone, and I went to buy an outfit for my troll.
The woman behind the counter asked me why I was still there.
'I live here', was my reply.
'Oooh' she said, 'In that case them there outfits is 2/6 not 2/11'!

Ann, his extolling of Devon holds very little water. That is why he often posts that he spends 6 months living in New Zealand every year. LOL

I guess Eddie never visits any other parts of the country. All areas need the input from tourists. As you say Julia talk about biting the hand that feeds you. And in such a derogatory way too.

Hi Lizz

Am in Romford which is in a kind of limbo between London and Essex. Officially we're in Greater London but anyone here will tell you they live in ESSEX!

yeah, its ok, looks considerably prettier at the moment!

GoldenGirl, Incomers, tourist, visitors that spend their hard earned cash into the coffers of the business people there, whilst enjoying themselves taking a well earned rest. It is a derogatory expression. Talk about bite the hand that feeds you.

Julia

Julia Report 2 Dec 2010 15:19

Yes Eddie, but the town and the whole area needs the income from those grockles, just as we do in the Peak District.

Back to my roots in North Devon. Love the beaches, love Exmoor, love the people but loathe the blasted grockles every summer.

Yes Merlin, you are correct about the Elf and Safety. Can't leave anything alone can they. Even some old stepping stones that have been there for centuries.

Yes Merlin, not so very far from where I live, but not passable to there today. It is on of the places we pack a picnic to, when on a summer Sunday we have a ride ' up't Peak. LOLOL
