Well done Sylvia - what an achievement for 2010!!

I agree Merlin, I am always a 'smoker who hasn't lit up today', and
I stopped on 1st September 1983.

You good people have also got to get off of the patches and inhalers too because you wll remain a nicotine addict all the time you're getting a fix from them instead of tobacco.
If you need any thing to keep you off the fags just go near someone who smokes - they stink something awful.
As for letting anbody smoke in my house, not a chance in hell. My mother in law is a nicotine addict and the only place she is allowed to smoke is in the yard. If it's raining she goes without or stands in the chicken shed.

Hi Rottie,
Hey, you are not being a misary, I know how you feel, being depressed doesn't help at all, I have been on antidepressants for a while now but still get depressed from time to time. Trying to give up smoking is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and I am still not out of the woods yet. It must be hard for you having to give up for financial reasons I wanted to stop and still am finding it rather difficult, to get my patches I have to attend the anti smoking clinic and every week have to tell them how many fags I have had, to be truthful I have only gone I week without having any I still need a couple of drags in the morning and at night, instead of buying 140 a week I am now buying 10. This in its self is an acheivement for me. I know I must really get out of the habit of having those drags but I can't seem to be able to.

Keep trying Rotti you and I seem to be suffering together.

hi sylvia,gp offered me antidepressants for a while but would only continue them if i went counselling, sorry but i am not one for public airing of my dirty washing so i said no, manage on my own, not always one of my better ideas i have to say. luckily i get my patches through my local chemist on prescription, at no cost to me. i found polo mints help a bit [eating tons of them at mo]. my 11yr old granddaughter our local sams 99p shop sells packs of eight tubes for 99p, not bad value, of course that my rate for babysitting these days, daughter buys me several paks a week as i have kids 3 or 4 days, she never did like buying me any ciggies and her an ex smoker too, keep up the effort i have been told it is woth it . will keep posting update as often as i can, have borrow pc in the meantime, well chin up all the best , jane

Hello Everyone.

I think you are doing marvelous on trying to give up.

I used to smoke till 20 months ago. I had to stop Ihave been told I have C.O.P.D. Well I am pleased with myself apart from having my family it is the biggest achievement I have made.
my aim on stop smoking was to take a day at a time then a week then 2 wks. ect. I know it sounds corny but it works. I also found how smelly my clothes / myself will have been when I smell someone who smokes.

I even put my foot down on friends who smoke.must smoke outside.
I put this down as a challenge only I can do it and now I am aiming for the 1st May when I have stopped 2 years.

Good Luck!
Linda.

Message for you from our Mac, Sylvia. Good luck with your efforts to stop smoking!

Hi Liz,

Message for Sylvia on her smoking thread

I WANTED to give up 21 years ago, I did it and it was easy, I never used Patches at all.

As diI said I wanted to give it up

I joined the Royal Navy at 17 and they thought they were doing me a favour by selling me Ciggies at 2/2d (11p) a hundred, but all they did was give me Heart and Lung Disease, I have had a Quadrupal Heart Bypass and there has been talk of taking my right Lung out.

I have saved between £65-75,000 in that time and have travelled the equivilent of 20 times around the world with it, just think of what the money will buy for you, holidays, clothes, nice meals and much much more

Stick in there Gel,

Mac, The Old Geezer

My own Dad died of lung cancer, he smoked for most of his life off and on so hope you find that inner strength to give up completely very soon.

Good luck to all those fighting this addiction, have to fight my own ocd and it's so hard.
