I gave up smoking 11 years ago. I gave up because i wanted to, i used no patches or tablets or inhalers nothing just good old fashioned will power, i didn't put my fag money away , i just no longer scraped around for money for basic things, i cannot believe that people pay £6.50 for a packet nowadays!!!
Oh and if the smell of a dirty ashtray doesn't make you feel ill, then i don't know what will.

My wife and I used Zyban. She stopped smoking and I stopped using Alcohol. I have never touched Alcohol since, about 5 years now.

Early this year my daughter said to me that I smelled bad when I had been smoking and could n't I stop. So I did. No pills, no patches, no inhalers, and I have to say I found it very easy, I just did n't smoke any more.
If I need any reminders of why I stopped, the first smoker I go near is enough to remind me that smokers STINK. And they don't realise it.

Also if you use patches or any other nicotine replacement, you are not breaking the nicotine addiction, but merely teasing your brain with small doses of the drug. You've got to get it out of your body which takes about three days. Remember nicotine is more addictive than heroine. But give it a week or so and it gets sooo much easier.

If your going to give up, you have to do it 100%., you have to STOP there and then, no puffs here and there...because you will never break the habit.

Good luk tho, it is a hard one to crack and you will only crack it if you are 100% committed to wanting to give up.

Hi Sylvia

I forgot to ask you yesterday.......Are you doing this through the chemist cos if you do you can get your patches on prescription & it works out cheaper....also they monitor you so you can't have a sneaky one lol

Julie :o))

Have you read about Zyban? It really worked for my father-in-law. He'd had many unsuccessful attempts at quitting smoking but this was the drug that helped.

Hi Sylvia
I had been smoking from the age of 14 until I was 60. I woke up one morning with a horrible cough but had cigs in the morning until my throat couldn't stand anymore. Got through the next day without one and carried on day after day saying not today and still saying it after three years.
If you really want to give up you will, and feel better for it. I do and so do a lot of my friends, no more smelly clothes and houses
Good luck
Maureen
