Morning all,

Nice bright morning blue sky and sunshine but we should have rain later .

I love marmite too ,I have it on my toast

Anng you'll have to rest the leg today so you can walk in comfort tomorrow, don't forget your stick just in case .

Shopping day and I want to see if there's any Geraniums left after the weekend they might have all gone .

Good morning all grey here and 11 degrees now.
Leg played up in the night but I did manage to get quite a bit of sleep. I cleared the 'holiday' drawer out yesterday and managed to merge what was left with the drawer I cleared the day before. I suppose all the bending and moving things around didn't help my leg and back which stiffened up as soon as I had laid still sleeping for two hours. Anyway that left an empty drawer so I could get clothes down from the top cupboard into that drawer. Which was the point of the exercise. I also mowed the lawn yesterday so getting the mower in and out of the shed didn't help. Going to try not to do too much today as I want my leg to be ok for going out to the lavender place tomorrow.

Ooooo another Marmite lover, I'm with you there as is our Frank. Not done anything today in the garden as I had hip ache from yesterday. I did do both pond filters though so not a completly useless day and two jobs done. I also did a wash but forgot it in the machine so it did'nt go out till later on.

Hope you all have a good nights sleep tonight.

Good evening all

It's been quite a nice day today; cloud and sunny spells, and quite warm with a pleasant breeze. I don't usually do washing on a Sunday but it seemed a good day to wash a big duvet cover that's been hanging about for a couple of weeks waiting for some good drying weather..

I also managed to do an hour in the garden. My back is quite bad at the moment so I'm avoiding bending and stretching too much but I tackled a lot of the weeds in the garden with a long handled hoe and cut back a few plants that had spread too far and were swamping some other things.

I also cooked a full dinner of roast loin of pork with all the trimmings and lots of veg, followed by plum crumble and cream. Naughty but very nice. We had it at 2 pm and I still feel stuffed. Before we sat down I suggested to OH that it might be nice if we could eat our meal without rescuing flying cutlery or mopping up spilt wine and he managed to get through the meal without any accidents.

Having said that, I don't think he would have dared to have a mishap as in the morning he had managed to break a glass lamp shade. In his bedroom there are 2 ceiling lights each with 5 arms, so 10 small shades. They were there when we moved in but we quite liked them so didn't change them. They are a poor design as they have those tiny rectangular bulbs and you have to try to fit new bulbs inside these shaped glass shades without actually being able to see what you are doing. OH was changing 2. He had no problems with the first one but managed to break the shade on the second one. I doubt if we will be able to replace the shade on such an old light so we may have to buy 2 completely new light fittings.

My OH has always been a bit heavy handed and, like Annx's OH, his mind is always on the next thing before he's finished what he's doing, but he is definitely getting more clumsy. He also uses his hands a lot to express himself so even if he is describing something in words his hands and arms will be waving about all over the place, which is why wine or water tends to go flying. One of our acquaintances nicknamed him Semaphore Joe.

I've just put an order in with Tesco for delivery Tuesday as we are getting low on a few things, but I need to go and check the freezer to see what I need there and check on things like jam. OH will never cope if we run out of his beloved Marmite!.

Afternoon All,

It's warmer today and almost a bit muggy.

That sounds like good planning Mandy. I hope there are still some left for you after the weekend. Oh yes OH does the same with the shopping when he helps put it away. He also never takes notice where he's put things when I ask and can't always remember whether they delivered something as he takes no notice of what he's put away!

I forgot to say yesterday that OH had his new Tesco card that he'd applied for come. One problem.......somehow he'd applied for it in the name of 'MRS' unless they'd made a mistake! :-D

I still had a full set of some carved sherry glasses from my first wedding when OH and I got together AnnG. Now there is just one left and I've always been so careful with them I'm pretty sure I haven't broken any. Breaking crockery was a rarity in my first marriage too. Now we have dinner and side plates bought during the pandemic that are chipped as well as chipped glasses I have to throw away. He empties the dishwasher, but not carefully and rams plates between each other in the cupboards. He once broke a small chip off a glass trifle dish that landed in the one underneath and I got the chip of glass in my mouth and cut it so it bled when I next used it. He did get a telling off about that!!! :-S I keep threatening to get those metal enamelled plates.

Lunch is ready so I'd better dish up. Barnesley lamb chops and a plate of veg!

Morning girls,

Sunny here first thing but its a little cloudier now but pc still says high pollen count and 16 degrees. I can't see the trees moving and I hav'nt been out yet. I had a lie in this morning as I knew nobody was coming.

Hope the car goes through ok Mandy when you take it in on Tuesday.

I have a lovely big bite on the inside of my right elbow and it itches like anything. That'll teach me to put a coat on when I go and light a bonfire.

Good morning all 11 degrees here and pale blue sky and lovely sunshine so far. Not sure it is going to last though. Nothing planned for today. Maybe clear out another drawer. There is one that holds all holiday stuff, but a lot of it is never used now as I don't go away on holiday out of the country.

Ann I honestly can only remember T ever breaking one glass in all our marriage. Some stuff got broken during washing up (before dishwashers) But we really broke very little. Probably why I still have a sideboard full of glasses. Luckily neither of us were particularly clumsy. I still have two glasses (One tumbler type and one small sherry type), very delicate (and not used by me) that belonged to my maternal grandparents (19th century).

did'nt ever find my small sauspan lid so it must have gone in the recykling. I am so cross with myself as it was a set of three.

Glad you all like my hard work. I was determined to finish it today.

Annx Report 13 Jul 2024 19:02

Dull and a bit chilly first thing, but another wash was hung out and was dry by lunchtime and the sun came out for a while. Lucky for me the yarn bomb visitors don't seem to be bothering with the car parks and are lining both sides of the streets instead and making it quite dangerous with one lane in the middle around the winding bends you can't see around. It doesn't seem half as big or imaginative this year.

Mel you are doing a great job with your scraping and making it look new!! It's hard work though, but the border looks nice against it now. What a shae you have broken a tooth but meusli can have some hard bits. I find the same with granary bread.

AnnG I think OH is just too impatient and quickly moving on to the next thing to not watch what he's actually doing. He's always been clumsy and broken things, even when he was managing to win darts competitions! We do have to be mindful of change as we get older though, but despite his laser eye surgery and cataract removal, he reckons his sight is the best he's ever had now. I seem to recall his father was the same and both of them were also always banging their heads on shelves above them! You have been busy sorting out clothes which is another job on my list, otherwise my new purchases will have to live in the bag they are in.

Vera I confess I did think of you and your OH when mine was 'performing!'. I see he didn't disappoint with his strawberries and cream. lol. Knole House sounds lovely and I was amazed how huge it is and so full of things to see. Those paper outfits sound amazing and thanks to Mandy I had a look and found the going away outfit too. I remember seeing the white garden at Sissinghurst. That was good your granddaughter was well enough to visit and extended her stay with you. Good that your lunch kept ok too. The flexibility of working from home has been ideal and enabled her to work at her stop off in Yorkshire.

Mandy OH can do a really quick job of tidying the garage and makes it look neat, but we can't find anything afterwards. Instead I put similar things together on the shelves, so you know what you are looking for is near. Did you manage to get some more geraniums?

I have mostly done admin today, but decided to prepare tomorrow's veg for lunch. It seems such a drag on Sunday morning

Marvellous work on that path Mel, well done it looks great.
Your dental problems seem ongoing. That tooth should surely not have broken like that. Hope you can get an appointment next week then.

How is your healthy eating going have you lost any more weight? All that exercise should help.

Oh dear Mel, more tooth problems. I hope it doesn’t cost too much to get it fixed. You’ve done well if you have nearly finished clearing your path.

You’ve been busy too AnnG clearing drawers and wardrobes. I hope your back ache clears up quickly.

I’m glad you found the picture of Vita in her going away outfit Mandy. I think you would have loved the bride’s and bridesmaids dresses. The lady that made them is very talented. I was blown away by them, particularly as it wasn’t just the clothes but all the accessories.

I’ve said it before Annx and I’ll say it again - your OH and mine came from the same mould. I did laugh at his mishaps at the lunch table and I know exactly why you spent the meal on tenterhooks. I am always on the watch for glasses of wine or plates balanced precariously on the edge of the table or sleeves trailing in the butter, and you can guess who managed at the tea we went to on Thursday to tilt his bowl of strawberries and cream and spill cream on the floor. He then stood looking at it helplessly while I balanced my own bowl in one hand, grabbed a couple of paper napkins to stop anyone slipping on it and found an organiser to get a cloth. And I am the one with the dodgy eyes and the intermittent tremor.

Granddaughter was feeling a lot better today. I hadn’t realised that she was going back to Yorkshire and would normally have left this morning but she came and had lunch and spent 3 hours here before starting back. It was so lovely to see her. Her theatre work doesn’t bring in much money so she has a job that she can do from home with phone and computer but she has to be in one place to do it, she can’t be on the road. Her next session starts at 8 am tomorrow and I think it’s a 10 hour shift and the same Monday and Tuesday so she’ll stay at my son’s and drive back to Scotland on Wednesday.

I don’t think I want anything else to eat yet but I might make a cuppa now and sit down with the puzzle pages from the weekend paper.

Its not the new plate but they added teeth to the old one. I have broken it in an arch. My tongue found the sharp bit which made me look at them.

Just come in for a drink of water as I am nearly there!!!!! HOORAY!!!!

leg is not too bad mandy, I walked down the road this morning to take some tee shirts to Irene for charity and it was not really painful at all, just a bit stiff.
Back is aching now though as I cleared out a drawer in my bedroom and then sorted out the rails in my wardrobe, putting tee shirts and summer stuff on the lower rail and sweater on the high rail.

Afternoon all,

Funny sort of day here cloudy with a few fine spits of rain then nice and sunny the next minute ,it's quite chilly as there is quite a bit of wind .
Had a good hoover through and got some ironing done this morning and this afternoon I think i will be lazy and do a bit of my knitting .

Ann, it sounded a lovely birthday meal with lots of things that I would have picked ,poor OH catching his glass and soaking his trousers thats the trouble with lots of dishes on the table its so easy to knock things over I'm sure we've all done at one time or another but at least you enjoyed it and came away full up ,you'll know next time they have cushions if you need one ,you'd think with people asking for a cushion they would have a think about replacing some chairs but on the other hand people would leave the table sooner if their uncomfortable and it can be rebooked again .

Vera I had a look on the NT Knole website and saw the paper going away outfit, my goodness it doesn't look like paper at all ,I would have loved to have seen all the paper outfits they must have taken a lot of work .
Hope your granddaughter is feeling better and can come today .

Mel as I said in the email clearing all the path must have been hard work but it's looking good now and it's nice when you can stand back and look at your hard work ,give yourself a pat on the back .

Anng how's your leg today after your walk round the shops .
