Good to read that the house sorting is going well, Ann.
A bit of wallpaper is not a problem as long as the walls are structually sound, so I hope it won't be long until the young couple can settle in to their new home to await their baby.

A lovely few hours for daughters and I yesterday, when we were invited to a 'Friends and Family ' gathering a few miles away.
It was lovely to meet up with extended family, whose names were known, but just a person on my tree previously.
Lots of chat as we all tried to define our relationships.
So good to meet up for a happy occasion, as sadly, as time goes on, it's often only funerals, when extended family meet.

The moving is going well, actually in the end they asked daughter and SiL to look after Amber until the evening of the second day. Amber is a 7 year old Cockapoo and they thought it would be too unsettling for her to be there in all the chaos but daughter and SiL went round in the evening for a couple of hours and said the house is looking good. Needs a lot doing to decorations as it was an older couple sold it and wallpaper is peeling etc but I think it was reduced because of that.

Good morning all, up late today but had a broken sleep last night so didn't rush.
1 degree here still but no frost as far as I can see.
Mel have you got anything that you could float on the pond to stop it freezing over completely? I am no expert but I am sure that I have seen that somewhere.

Morning all,

Heavy frost again this morning but no fern patterns on the car its jhust white but the suns out too so it should soon burn it all away. Pc says 8 degrees and cloudy so I expect the sun will dissappear after lunchtime as it has been doing for the last few days.

Pond man is going to ring me tomorrow at lunchtime about this pump. In the meantime I am going to see if I can get the skimmer going as I am worried the pond will freeze over with all these frost and I don't want to lose my lovely fish..

Maybe your daughter's card has gone astray in the post Vera. If not she is going to be very embarrassed. It is my sister's birthday tomorrow and I am just hoping her card has arrived ok.

The trouble with U3a is that the whole membership is not young. We do have some in their 50s but mainly we are all over 70. We have over 300 members in our U3a so we are bound to lose some over the year. But it is sad.

Yes I think the elephants ballet dancing were in Fantasia.

That sounds a lovely meal but I would have been awake all night as well. the cup of tea would have finished me.

Mel doing well with eggs then well done.

Vera your answer

It originates from a boxer called Larry Foley in the 1890s.

When I read your post it reminded me of Lambchop who was a sock puppet worked by a lady Shari Lewis I think. Now thats going back a bit. Funny how one thing can lead to another memory.

I have had BIL here this afternoon and he sorted my printer out for me but it took a long while. It kept coming up with pdf file to Save and we could'nt get rid of it at first but he sorted it out and now I can print again.

Good afternoon all

What a cold day it is today. It’s also grey, windy and raining on and off. Brrr..

Mandy, I am looking forward to seeing George Dog and Olivia Elephant. Was it in the old Fantasia film where the elephants were ballet dancers? Showing my age now.

You’re doing well on the egg front Mel. How many would you expect to get over a week?

I’m sorry to hear of the death of the photographer gentleman AnnG. Sadly, as we get older, we do start to lose our contemporaries but at least his photos will live on. Like you, it is usually OH, son and daughter who give me birthday presents. I used to exchange presents with my late brother but OH and his siblings don’t do that. However, our group of ladies do buy for each other but don’t spend more than £10, so most of my vouchers were from the ladies for that amount. I’ve found that if I keep my eyes open all year round you can often find a cracking present in a sale or on a reduced counter for less than £10.

I had a couple more cards in the post today so I’ve done really well. In fact, the only person I haven’t heard from is my daughter. She leads such a hectic life that she has clearly forgotten the date but I know she will be mortified when she realizes and I shall tease her about it. Some of my friends get angry or upset if someone close to them forgets to send a card but I always think what really matters is knowing I can pick up the phone, say I need help and know that she will be on her way as soon as I put the phone down.

We had a nice meal out last night. These days I do find a big meal and drinks in the evening difficult to digest so I was quite uncomfortable and wakeful for a lot of the night. We do have our main meal at home in the evening but we normally only have a main course. Anyway I am not complaining as it was all very nice. I had whitebait in breadcrumbs with lemon and a tartare sauce to start and that was nearly a meal in itself. The whitebait were the biggest I have seen and a plateful of them. Then I had chicken supreme with a sort of potato rosti but it had leek and bacon in it as well, grilled broccoli and a tarragon and cream sauce. When it came to puddings I decided to stick with the lightest thing on the menu which was ice cream. There was a big choice so I asked for 1 scoop of vanilla and 1 scoop of rum and raisin. With all this I just had 1 glass of wine but it was a VERY large glass. I finished with a pot of tea. OH enjoyed his 3 courses, 2 beers and a port and coffee, and slept like a log all night.

Tonight will be a bit of a come-down as we are just having egg and chips but my stomach might be glad of a rest.

I’ve just done a Tesco order for delivery on Tuesday and I have a couple of other jobs to do on the computer so I had better get on. I hope you all have a good night tonight and wake up in the morning feeling as happy as Larry (who was Larry?)

Morning Anng and all,

Its only 4 degrees here this morning and the suns out but pc says , O its changed it now says partly sunny. It will probably cloud over this afternoon like it has been doing lately.

Only plan for me today is the shop and Em's eggs.

I can't remember if I said I had full production on the egg front yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!! First time since I had the new few. 5 lovely brown eggs of differing sizes.

AnninGlos Report 25 Feb 2023 08:19

good morning all. You had a lovely lot of presents These days I usually get money or vouchers with family living so far away and postage not being cheap or reliable. And it is only son and daughter and sister who give presents not the grandchildren, unless I happen to be seeing them on or around the day.

Bedding is in the wash, dry but only 2 degrees out there!!! Tesco coming between 11 and 12.

Photography group was good yesterday 13 of us there so a good number of photos to look at. had one new member and sadly heard one of our original members who was a a regular attendee until December has sadly died. he was a very good photographer until the end of last year when he got very frail, he was older than tony so about 85/6..

Other than change the bed and put shopping away, nothing planned today so it will probably be doing a bit of admin.

You had some nice presents there Vera ,I hope your enjoying your birthday meal now ,we'll want yo hear what you had to eat.

Mel hope you soon hear from the chap to help with the pond filter ,has it packed up
completely ,how long can the fish go without the filter working .

I don't seem to have done much today and it's been one of those days when I just can't get warm even though we've had the log burner going since lunch time.
I've finished George the dog and I'm now knitting Olivia the Elephant, she's dressed as a ballerina.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Feb 2023 19:21

I swept all the leaves off the decking by my pond and between the two ponds. Did'nt get the filter going but rang Homeleigh garden centre and they gave me a number of a man who comes and sorts things out. after doing all that I started on the front of the bungalow clearing the dead of the mollis and the moss took off two barrow loads. By this time it was getting dark so I picked up my tools but did'nt empty my barrow. I'll so that tomorrow.

I am having two egg and cress sandwiches for dinner with 4 tomatoes and a couple of spring onions and a nice glass of orange juice. Its all done so now I am going to eat it.

Hope you have a wonderful meal tonight to finish off your lovely day Vera. <3 :-D

SuffolkVera Report 24 Feb 2023 14:33

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. It's not very warm and has been grey all morning but the sun has just broken through the clouds and is trying to shine for me.

I have been very spoiled today. I have 24 cards and various tokens. 2 are garden vouchers, 1 is for John Lewis, 1 for my hairdressers and 1 for a pub/restaurant that we happen to be going to tonight. I also have an umbrella, a jar opener thingy, a collection of gardening bits and bobs and some chocs. From son and dil I had a voucher for afternoon tea for 2 to be delivered to me here. We have had this before and it was superb. As it comes through a delivery company they don't send sandwiches but instead you get sausage rolls, little quiches, and scotch eggs, plus of course scones and cakes. Last time there was so much we finished it off for lunch the next day. I've been busy today phoning, emailing and texting my thank-yous

Our friends M & V came for coffee this morning. This evening OH has booked a table for a meal out and has also booked taxis to take us and bring us back. I suspect that is so he can drink rather than me, but I am not complaining. :-D

I hope your mower man turns up Mel. Did you get cold sorting out the pond?

Sun has disappeared again and I am getting cold upstairs on the computer so I think I will go downstairs and read for a while. I know OH was reading so he has probably nodded off by now as he is inclined to do that these days.

Have a great day sorry I did'nt put this in my first post but I am having problems this morning with the pond filter so have been out in the garden all morning clearing the leaves off the decking by the ponds. I have rung a man but was only able to leave a message so when he will get back to me I don't know.
