Weather today has not been too bad. In Carlisle it was not sunny, the sky was grey and there were a couple of short showers which we missed as we were either having a snack lunch or in the cathedral. Enjoyed a good shop in M&S I wanted a new shirt blazer style jacket and they had just one in my size luckily. So I bought that plus a pair of cargoe trousers/jeans and some underwear..
We then spent quite a bit of time in the cathedral which was interesting. Called in to a good butcher that daughter goes to when she can and bought meat for meals.

There was a lot of traffic on the road so the journey took about 45 minutes with two lots of roadworks. It was a good day out.

Morning Mel, Ann and everyone.

I hope everyone managed to sleep and 'switch off' from the terrible weather.

Bright blue sky, but it is still blustery after a really wild night, but the sunshine certainly helps one to think that things are getting better.

A day of memories Mel <3
I always think of my parents on this day. It was their wedding anniversary. Easter Monday, when they wed.

Yesterday, before the rain came, I walked to see the swan. I waited a while just watching them and after a while, the female partially stood up and resettled herself before she sat back on the nest. I was able to glimpse 7 eggs, so she might start incubating them all soon.

Have a good day Ann. I hope the weather is kind to you.

Good morning all.a grey day again but we are going to Carlisle. A bit of shopping and a look at the cathedral so we are hoping it doesn’t rain too heavy.

Morning all,

Much brighter and quieter this morning.

On this day in 1979 I lost my lovely dad. It was Good Friday 13th April.

AnninGlos Report 12 Apr 2023 15:31

We have had sleet and heavy showers and very cold the rain was too. While we were in the restaurant/bar it was also snowing a bit. As we drove to Ennerdale for lunch we could see snow on the tops of the high hills.
Lunch was really nice fish, chips and mushy peas and shared sticky toffee pudding.and ice cream.

AnninGlos Report 12 Apr 2023 11:02

Good morning all. A bit of sun and a lot of wind, not very warm. We ha got lunch booked somewhere I have not been before. That saves daughter cooking for one night.

Happy mole hunt Mel, makes a change from Easter eggs.

Morning all,

Bright at times this morning but mostly cloudy out the front and pc says wind. It also says take an umbrella its going to rain and it will be a high of 8. Its 7 at the mo.

Must remember to get my chops out of the freezer for tonights dinner as I keep forgetting. Hope you all slept well or at least had enough of the shut eye stuff to keep you going.

Nothing planned for today but I must go up and look at the mole trap and if it not too bad rain and wind wise I must set one in the other place they are making a mess. I have to have this field ready for the coranation picnic in May.

Nice pics to keep to remind you of your wedding anniverary Vera. I love the scallop shell sculpture on the beach.

Its been chucking it down here all afternoon and the winds up too. My poor chickens look like drowned rats, well the three black ones the two ginger ones have been inthe shed all day so they looked pretty dry when I gave them some corn earlier on but they grabbed a bite and went back in.

We parked in the very large station car park which is free, provided for all to use by Sellafield to encourage their staff/employees to travel by public transport. They also provide buses. We caught the 1110(ish) train from Workington to Whitehaven. This train runs down the coast to Lancaster so the short trip we did was very pleasant looking at the sea and beaches in coves. The train was on time and it is a quite short journey. To start with it was a blowy but sunny day and walking by the marina and harbour was very pleasant, in one marina the water has turned bright orange. Apparently lots of tests have been done but they have not yet found the cause.

We had a very nice coffee in a cafe where we could look out over the marina befire walking up through the town to the discover rum museum.
Taken from their info.

You will hear tales of Blackbeard and piracy on the high seas, smugglers, and Nelsons Navy... See Elliot Ness's office in the gangster days of the Jazz Age... and discover the story of Whitehaven's maritime fortunes and the Jefferson's family's trading past.

Situated in the original cellars and bonded warehouses of 1785, The Rum Story has carefully recreated each set to capture the essence of the time and place, from the decadence of the punch houses to snoring sailors and pirates.... and , if you dare, walk to the end of the cellar - is it really haunted?

It actually was very interesting and really showed

Yesterday was wet, wet, wet. Today it’s dry and sunny but there is a cold wind and rain is forecast again later.

I didn’t do much yesterday other than some washing as my head was still bad. I don’t feel 100% but I do feel quite a lot better today. I washed a load of bedding and got it out early so the sun and wind should dry it before the rain starts. I’ve also managed half an hour in the garden and a bit of tidying up indoors.

Tomorrow we’re going to see our daughter. She only lives about 25 miles away but we haven’t seen her since Christmas. She’s been having an extension built and her downstairs area completely rehashed. It has taken months but, apart from a bit of decorating, is finished at last. She has sent me photos of various stages but it’s hard to visualise exactly how it all fits together so I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Lovely to have a cuddle with the new baby AnnG. I hope you are having a nice day at Whitehaven.

Did you get your bits on eBay Mel? You seem to be getting a few sales from it. Well done you.

I had gone to bed last night when there was such a clatter outside and it was an ambulance at our next door neighbour again. I’m not sure which one it was called out for as I could hardly stand at the window and gawp but I heard it drive away at about midnight. Then at 3.30 am I heard a car come up our Close. I did peek out then and it was the neighbour’s car. Wife doesn’t drive so I assume she’s the one gone to hospital this time and the car was husband coming back. Sometimes the ambulance seems to spend more time here than at the ambulance station but, credit where it’s due, they are both quite poorly yet seldom moan or complain. Not like some of my friends who act as though they have one foot in the grave every time they get a little sniffle.

Morning all,

Cloudy here this morning and pc says heavy rain soon and 7 degrees so thats to look forward to.

My uncle used to have a boat at Whitehaven and we went there once when I was young. He used to go fishing in it and catch those spider crabs. He liked to eat them but not for me, yuk. Hate anything shellfishy.

BIL went back to work last night so I should have a quiet day today. Need to get a couple more things on Ebay if I can. It took me all afternoon to get three things on yesterday.

Good morning all. Looks sunny so far but I am sure it is still cold. Probably going to Whitehaven today, not far away. It will be nice to see the sea anyway. And I think there is an interesting museum there too.

Good evening. As planned we went to see Maya this afternoon. She is so tiny, feels so light in your arms but she is gorgeous of course. She is still only two weeks and has not yet reached her due date. I had a lovely cuddle although she was asleep all the time. She did open her eyes a. Outlet of times. Lovely to see her anyway. Weather not too bad, a bit chilly but sun and cloud.
