Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 May 2023 15:28

Mandy its been quite nice this morning and I got the wahsing on the line and hoovered the kitchen and then sucked up all the spiders and webs wiped down the kitchen cupboards and the boards under them and washed all the back door down inside and out. Not got o the windows yet as I was hungry so I did a sandwich late and watched Doctors and am now having a cuppa and must go and see if my scripts are in as I have been without one pill for a couple of days now. we have to order our scripts 5 working days in advance but with all the bank holidays I could'nt get them till the 9th and then when I went up there I forgot to ask for them in the shop.

I still hav'nt had my oil and Keith has another order out now so its well over a month since they shoudl have delivered. I must dip the tank again but every time I think of it its raining cats and dogs.

Better get on as I still have the windows to do they are in an awful state.

Did I tell you I saw my first May Fly on the 5th May and not seen once since.

Afternoon all,

Nice sunny warm day here ,boy did we have a storm yesterday it poured and there was thunder and lightning for a couple of hours .
We have been out this morning putting the little greenhouse together and I have put my Geraniums in there for now then I can put two or three tomato plants in there .
The Geraniums I bought fro Aldi a couple of weeks ago four plants for £1.79 I have had them from there before and they have been lovely plants , I bought seven lots of them .
We didn't save any from last year as they were left out for ths winter when I broke my wrists and couldn't get them up.

Vera I didn't realise the carbon monoxide alarms have a shelf life, we just put new batteries in ours .
Rest that back now so you can enjoy the family get together ,didn't you have to come home early last time because OH was poorly or have I got that wrong.

Just got our recycling bin in Anng they are always a day late with the bank holidays ,is it another Bank Holiday this weekend too .

Mel I hope you get a trouser day and not shorts lol

Thanks for that Vera, it is in my head now :-D Hope he soon comes. don't you just hate waiting for somebody to call to do a job?

Pleased there is some improvement with your back hope that continues and yes, continue to rest it.
It was lovely and sunny first thing but now it is pouring with rain although it is 15 degrees. I just managed to get outside and cut off all the dead tulip flowers when it stated to rain. No hope of doing any more in the garden before the meeting tomorrow. what a pain!! heavy rain yesterday late afternoon and evening too.

I couldn't do anything while it was sunny as I was busy dusting downstairs and cleaning the cloakroom.

Now I have my and Cynths recycling bins to take in and they didn't come until it started raining.

We never did get our coffee. Before I could put the kettle on the phone went and it was the gas man to say he was on his way. The boiler is only a couple of years old so we knew there would be no problems with it but he changed our carbon monoxide alarm as he said it expires this year. I didn't realise they had a limited life. The one he has put up now should last till 2033!

OH is getting our lunch and I am really ready for a cuppa now.

Morning ladies (and any gentlemen that happen to look in)

Beautiful day here so far. It’s sunny, 15 degrees and with a light breeze. We had a lot of heavy rain yesterday evening and overnight and we are due more rain this afternoon so I’m enjoying seeing the sun while it’s here.

Like Mel and AnnG I ought to be doing h/w but I am a bit limited at the moment with my back. It is slowly improving but I don’t want to risk making it worse again as in just over a week we are supposed to be going to a family gathering of OH’s family and staying with his sister for a couple of days.

At the moment we’re waiting for the gas man to come and give the boiler it’s annual MOT. He’s supposed to be coming some time between 8 am and 1 pm. While we’re waiting OH is potting up some tomatoes in big pots for me, with me supervising of course ;-). They can stay outside now. We’re also going to put the geraniums out. I lost most of mine this year but 10 flourished and are blooming in the conservatory. As it happens 5 red and 5 white survived and they will go nicely in 2 troughs and soon spread to fill them.

OH drove me to Sainsbury’s yesterday to get some fresh veg and salad stuff plus a few other bits. The veg was appalling. It looked as though it had all been sitting on the shelves for weeks. The outside leaves of all the greens had gone bad so the insides probably weren’t very good, the parsnips were tiny, shrivelled things, the broccoli was yellow and the leeks were well past their best. What has happened to Sainsbury’s? I ended up going to the freezer section and buying a load of different veg there.

No sign of the boiler man yet so I think I’ll go and make a coffee. Anyone remember Flanders and Swann singing “ ‘Twas on a Monday morning the gas man came to call”?

Morning Anng and all,

Grey sky here but there is a promise of a better day as there is enough blue sky to make a sailor a pair of trousers. Lets hope they're not shorts.

Think it will be HW for me today as BIL should be down this weekend and I'd like to be tidier. I always seem to be in a mess when he comes also I need to clean the windows in the kitchen at least inside and out!! So looks to me like its a HW days all round then.

Had my coffee better feed the girls and get stuck in.

Good morning all. Very sunny here at the moment and 8 degrees so a bit 'sharp'. Not a lot to do today, rest up a bit as it was an energetic day yesterday. Mainly getting the house ready/tidy for the meeting tomorrow.
slept well last night, must have been all that fresh air. BBL :-)

Well we had a great day at Lydney Park gardens. We were all prepared for bad weather as showers and storms were forecast. But it was warm and stayed dry and eventually the sun came out. The Rhododendrons and Azaleas were absolutely beautiful and we had not expected there to be so many bluebells which were beautiful. After we finished our walk we went to Taurus craft centre for lunch in their restaurant. Taurus is run under the umbrella of the Camphill Trust.
Driving home in the sunshine we could see really thundery black clouds ahead and by the time we got to Churchdown there were spots of rain, five minutes after I got indoors it tipped down. We were so lucky and we had a great day,

Good morning all. sunny so far but doesn't look settled. I have my fingers crossed that it will only be light showers as I am off to Lydney Park Gardens today with friends starting we hope with coffee at Lydney harbour. (I lived in Lydney from 1973 to 1981. Haven't been back except to pass through on the way to meet our friend in Chepstow up until 2019 .

Been raining here and its dull and miserable and 14 degrees so not as warm as at our Vera's. Can't seem to get into anything today so have been looking on ebay to see if I can buy anything I can improve on.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 May 2023 15:56

Vera at least there is some improvement. Would it not be better to at least take one or two of the stronger pain killer to knock the pain on the head. Then take it easy for a few days to see if it will continue to improve.

I really had a couple of things to do in the garden following on from what I did yesterday but it is going to have to be Wednesday now as I am out tomorrow.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 8 May 2023 15:26

I'm glad your village event went well yesterday Mel and the youngsters were at least able to get to play on the field.

You're right about the weather AnnG. We never seem to get the same two days running so it makes planning quite difficult. At least we've always got something to talk about, lol.

It's a warm day here, 15 degrees at the moment, but quite cloudy. It's now come over quite grey and the wind is getting up a bit so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it doesn't rain soon.

My back pain is a little bit easier today and I am trying to move about a bit more. Pain control is the biggest problem. I can't take any anti-inflammatories as they don't mix well with other tabs that I'm on; paracetamol on their own don't seem to do much for me which pretty much leaves codeine based drugs. I have a strong co-codamol on repeat prescription for other reasons and last time I had a back flare up the doc told me to take those but I do try to only take them when absolutely necessary. Hey ho, these things are sent to try us and there are lots of people worse off.

I'm having a veggie quiche tonight but I can't decide what to have with it. As I haven't had a delivery for a couple of weeks nor been out shopping for a few days the cupboard is getting a bit bare. Often we'll have a salad with quiche but OH finished the cucumber and rocket at lunchtime, there's no pepper or radish left and I don't think a lettuce leaf and a couple of baby plum tomatoes will make much of a salad. I'm sure we won't starve - I'll find something to fill the plate.

I might now catch up on a couple of programmes I wanted to see and missed. OH put on a programme he had recorded but it is suspiciously quiet so I suspect he's doing his eyes good. If I turn the TV off he'll immediately wake up and swear blind he was watching it. :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 May 2023 10:16

Morning all,

Dull and overcast here this morning and 12 degrees and cloudy by the pc.

Yesterday was nice in the village hall and I sat with my two neighbours Nicola and Angela and Adrian. I shouldhave sat with Hazel and Jonathon but they were'nt at their table when I went in. Anyway there was a quiz about the royal family and we all had a good laugh. I won two prizes in the raffle, a tin of shortbread and a small bottle of pink proseco which I wilkl give to Em as I know she likes that. When all the picnic was over and the crowns had been judged the sun came out so at the very end the children went on the field with the footballs and Ed Em's hubby had put their small goal on the field and it was lovely to see the same twins and others play football together.

Got up for the loo at 6.23 and went back to bed and woke again at 9.20 so I am behind today now.

Vera I do hope the back eases soon and you can get some decent rest and sleep. My thoughts are with you as back pain is so hard as every time you move you seem to hurt it. I know becasue I suffered with back pain for years and kliving on pain kiklklers.

Good morning all, after out one lovely day yesterday it is back to the rain again. 11 degrees but dull and wet. Never two good days in a row.

Nothing planned for today anyway so maybe a bit of the dreaded H/W

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 May 2023 18:26

What a shame Vera that your back spoiled your plans. Have you done something to make it so bad now or has it just happened.? I hope it soon starts to ease as it must be so frustrating for you.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 May 2023 17:10

You’ve been very busy AnnG. Don’t overdo it.

Mel, it’s a shame you can’t have your picnic in the field after getting it all ready but I am sure it will go well in your village hall. There’s nothing going on round here at all which is unusual. I would have expected something on the Rec at the bottom of the Close.

My back is still giving me real trouble. We were meant to be watching the coronation with friends at their house yesterday and I had even got myself a red, white and blue outfit ready to wear but I couldn’t make it. I sat on a firm upright chair in our lounge and we watched it here. I was very impressed with Penny Mordaunt. I thought she was very dignified and I don’t know how she stayed so still and kept that heavy cross upright all that time.

I spent a lot of last night walking the floor as the pain wouldn’t let me settle and nothing much seemed to ease it so I’m exhausted at the moment. It’s a pity as the weather is beautiful and I feel I should be out there weeding. OH has put up a bit of netting for my sweet peas to grow up when I plant them out. Now he’s putting out plants we ordered to replace the dead hebes that edged a semi-circle round a bird bath. I can’t remember whether we ordered 20 or 24 plants but they came while we were watching the coronation. We’ve tried lavender and that wasn’t happy in that spot, then we tried dwarf hebes and this winter’s frost finished them off so now we’re trying a low growing euonymous, called White Spire. It’s supposed to be very hardy so we’re hoping for the best

My eyes are drooping as I am typing so I had better finish before I fall asleep on the iPad. I hope you all have a good night.
