I hope your cold doesn't develop into much AnnG. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with your son. It must be a bit of a downer to come back to an empty house again. I sympathise with you.

The pate was in date but may have been open for too long. As OH usually gets our lunches I don't always see when he opens a new pack of something and pate does need using up fairly quickly once it's opened.

OH is improving now. He is still in bed and only having sips of water but that's no bad thing. I went to check on him at about 5 this evening and he asked me why I was up so early. He was convinced it was morning but he had been dozing all day so I think he was just a bit disorientated.

I got an hour's sleep this afternoon but still feel very tired and I have a headache so I am going to take OH some fresh water and check he's settled for the night and then I am going to bed. Sleep well everyone.

Oh Vera, that sounds nasty. More so for him but for you as well. Sounds likely it was the pate doesn't it? good job you didn't both have it. Have you got the wrapper? Was it still in date? I hope that he is beginning to feel a bit better now.

I know how you look forward to these get togethers so I know how sad you are to have missed it. I expect OH is too. What a shame.

I got home at 11.40 having left at 0930. we had a lovely trip home as the sat nav gave an alternative route to the horrible M40/A40 and took us through lovely scenery and pretty villages across North of the Cotswolds. son always does an immediate turn around (I wish he wouldn't so he was home at 2.30.

I am a bit miserable now after having company for a week. I feel a bit lonely as he left so quickly. But I should be aware of it by now.
And now I think I am getting a cold.

Good morning

Very dull and grey here this morning but warm and a bit muggy. AnnG should be well on her way back by now. I hope it is an easy journey for her.

We should also be on our way now on the first bit of our journey to our sons but fate has stepped in again and we won't be going. Early yesterday evening OH said he didn't feel too good and by 9 pm was being violently sick. I won't go into the unpleasant details but he was clearly quite ill and by 11 pm I was so worried I called NHS 111. I got through to a very helpful chap who asked me lots of questions and then had a few words with OH. He thought OH should be checked out by ambulance paramedics and arranged an ambulance for us. We get awful reports round here of people waiting countless hours for ambulances but they were here by midnight. The 2 lovely paramedics stayed till turned 2 am and did loads of tests. His bp was up as you might expect but his chest was clear and his heart good. He was sick while they were here which was good as they could see just how bad he was. They eliminated all sorts of things it could have been and one of the men spoke on his phone to one of their doctors and the decision was that it was some form of food poisoning. The only problem was that we had eaten all the same things for lunch and dinner and I was fine. Then we remembered that OH had finished up a packet of pate and I had started a new one so we wondered if the pack he finished was just on the turn. Anyway the ambulance crew decided he was OK to stay at home but told me to ring again if things got worse. He was badly sick again at 5 am but not since so we hope he is now over the worst though he feels pretty dreadful at the moment.

Needless to say I have had no sleep at all. I was either up with him or laying down but listening out for him. Even the pigeons were cooing away louder than ever at 6 am to stop me dozing off. I got up properly at 8 am and cleaned and disinfected everything OH used last night, phoned son and dil and cancelled the 2 nights we had booked at a Premier inn. We're getting a full refund for those so that's one good thing.

I am very disappointed not to go to our big family party and also not to see the grandchildren as I haven't seen them since Christmas and at the moment I feel that if anything else happens this month I am going to hibernate and wake up next year. I feel a bit tearful at the moment which is stupid as I am a perfectly capable woman and can normally deal with things when I have to. I think it is just the stress of everything that's happened over the last couple of weeks coupled with no sleep at all last night. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest on here so I can present a more cheerful front to poor OH.

Let's end with a smile :-D :-D

Wadeston Manor near Aylesbury is very large with lots of rooms, lots to see including the wine cellar. They are also wine producers. It took over an hour to go round the house. There is a lovely parterre filled with flowers and a large fountain with animal statues. In fact there are a lot of statues all around the grounds. The grounds are beautiful and huge but we didn’t have time to see it all, or the energy

Granddaughter was with us as it was a birthday treat for both of us. The cream tea again was delicious. Jay upgraded it to sparkling so Sophie and I both had sparkling rose. The little savouries were nearly all fish based and the cakes were lovely in miniature. Photos later, it was drizzling when we got there but the sun came out and is still out. the roads round here are very hairy, awful surfaces and fast. I have to say I was pleased to get home

Morning girls,

Have a nice cream tea this afternoon Anng. Can't remember the last time I had one of those and Vedra enjoy your coffee with the group. In fact the last time I went anywhere really was to Barnstaple with BIL months ago.

SuffolkVera Report 27 Jul 2023 08:33

Good morning AnnG and all

There was a lot of rain during the night. Now it’s drizzling but should stop shortly. It’s quite muggy as well, already 18 degrees but with 92% humidity. According to my weather app by mid afternoon it will be 23 degrees but feel like 28. No sun forecast, just cloud. What I call headache weather.

I couldn’t stop my leg jumping in bed last night so got up twice and spent time wandering about the house as it’s often the only way to stop it. Then I sat up reading till 3 am. I did sleep then till nearly 7.30.

A NT house and a cream tea sound good AnnG. Enjoy your day.

We are popping out for our regular Thursday coffee with friends in Starbucks in Sainsbury’s. It’s not my favourite place but it has large seating areas that can accommodate a group. Last week there were 9 of us turned up. While we’re out I need to shop for a birthday present and OH wants to fill the car ready for our trip this weekend. He said his back feels a bit better this morning and he seems to be moving a bit less rigidly.

I’ve had a cuppa but haven’t done anything else since getting up an hour ago so I’d better get dressed and have some breakfast. Have a nice day everyone.

Good morning all. Sorry you were on your own yesterday Mel. I was out with son yesterday most of the day and didn’t seem to find time to get on here later. We had a nice day, went to a new independent garden centre near Towcester. It was more than just the GC as it was a complex of several shops as well, but individual shops such as an up market wine shop, a beauty place, nails, spa etc, a bathroom shop, antique shop, hot tubs, art shop, we didn’t go in all of them but it was a good place to visit. After we finished there we went to another small complex on the way back for a very large ploughman’s lunch.. many years ag I remember visiting there for strawberries, pick your own when Granddaughter was about four.
Today son has to work (from home instead of travelling to London for a meeting because of the train strike). So DiL is taking me to a NT house where she has booked a cream tea this afternoon for the two of us. She took me there two years ago and it was lovely.

SuffolkVera Report 26 Jul 2023 21:15

Hallo Mel, I'm here now. It is a quiet day on here today. Glad you found your camera.

I seem to have been busy all day yet I don't seem to have achieved that much. I did a bit of ironing, then did a bit of hand washing. Then I spent half an hour in the garden deadheading and tidying a couple of plants. After lunch I went down the road to the rec and brought everyone's garden bin back up. Whoever first realises the bins have been emptied usually brings back everyone's. Then Sainsbury's delivered my order. By the time I had sorted through the order and put everything away it was time to start cooking dinner.

I've been waiting all day for eldest granddaughter to phone. I spoke to her very briefly yesterday evening and she said she would ring me today but I think she has forgotten. I'll have to try to get her tomorrow as I want to speak to her before she starts her move to Edinburgh on Friday. She has hired a van and my daughter and her partner are going to drive that for her while she drives her own car. They are going up to Yorkshire on Friday and then continuing on to Edinburgh on Saturday.

They will miss the annual family party which is at our son's in Yorkshire this year. With neither daughter nor granddaughter available to chauffeur us we are going to do the journey in 2 hits as OH no longer likes to drive for too long at a time. Age is catching up with us. Friday we are going half way and staying at a Premier Inn overnight, then Saturday we'll continue up to son's. We'll stay at his house on Saturday night and then back halfway on Sunday to the Premier Inn before continuing home on Monday. At least that's the plan but OH's back is not good at the moment. I have suggested we cancel but he is adamant that he will be fine driving and he wants to go. We could stay at son's longer but he and dil have got to work. He has to travel quite a lot and I don't want them to feel stressed because they have got to look after us. Maybe we can spend some time with them later in the year. This year there will apparently be 40 adults and half a dozen children at the party.

I enjoyed my dinner tonight as it's the first time for 8 days that I have been able to eat properly.

It's been a funny day weatherwise. First it was dull and cloudy, then we had quite a few sunny spells. This afternoon it got very warm and now it's pouring with rain again and that's forecast to carry on through much of the night.

I'm going to close the computer down now and go and do the crossword or read for a while before trying to get an earlyish night. I hope you all have a good night and wake up without too many aches and pains in the morning.

I have spent the last 3 quarters of an hour looking for my camera. I am ususally so careful with it and only put it in certain places like my desk or by the kettle on the work surface or in the bedroom on my dressing table. I looked in the shed, the car, his study, the uti room the spare bedroom and my work space in the lounge I even looked in the dustbin because I knew I had put the bag in there today so had that out too. I looked in the bathroom and by the front door as the shopping came yesterday. I kept asking the fairies if I could have it back please? Three times and they came up trumps, it was on my work bench in the lounge right at the backin front of the curtain. I was so relieved I can tell you.

Gosh I feel so cold today. Its been raining a bit and there a breeze. I had the window open for a while but had to shut it.

Took a co codamol at lunch time. My hip was so sore this morning. I can't bend down and have trouble getting my socks on. I have to turn it inside out and try and get it on my toes then walk it on till I can reach the top to pull it all the way on. Its getting a real bind now.

All I have done today is feed the chickens and the wild birds and clean the loo, have a wash and make lunch. O I did a little bit more to my Tudor lady too.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Jul 2023 10:08

Morning all,

It was bright and sunny when I got up for the loo at 5.45 am but went back to bed to wake to grey sky. It is 17 degrees and pc says mostly cloudy.

Picked a big bowl of plums the other day so I am going to take some to Em next door as she loves plums.

My other neighbours should be back today. tey have been to Scotland to see thier son as he is in the RAF and stationed there and they had an open day or something. They went last Wednesday and had dog sitters in for the two big dogs. They split the drive up there as its 600 and something miles to drive.

Good morning all. Sun is shining but it doesn’t feel very warm. Off with son to a different, new to him, garden centre this morning. DiL has to take elderly mother to a medical assessment place at the hospital. Grandson has already been to the gym and is now upstairs working. Grandaughter works zero hours in MK theatre and the theatre has a ‘dark’ week, so no work.

Vera hope OH’s back is better today and that you can keep the tooth some time. Be gentle with it for a while.

SuffolkVera Report 25 Jul 2023 17:21

Good afternoon all

It rained quite a bit in the night and again this morning but stopped by the time I had to go out to the dentist. Now it's dry and cloudy but fairly warm.

I got on OK at the dentist. Both the dentist we have now and the previous one that retired have been saying for years that the tooth that I lost the filling from will have to come out soon but every time they have another go at saving it and it's fine for quite a long while. This time a rim of tooth came off as well and I was sure the dentist would say it would have to come out but she asked me what I wanted to do and I said I would like to hang on to the tooth as long as possible so she has rebuilt the tooth almost completely. We go to a private dentist and it cost me an arm and a leg but an NHS dentist would just have taken it out I'm sure. They are so limited in what they are allowed to do. The dentist said the root of the tooth was pretty dead anyway so I wouldn't need numbing jabs. I was a bit apprehensive but she was right. It was a bit uncomfortable but no real pain. It took about an hour. I might end up in a few months having to have it out anyway so will have wasted my money but thought it was worth trying to keep it going a bit longer. She said to let it settle down for a few hours before chewing on it too much so lunch when we got back was scrambled eggs and dinner tonight will just be soup.

Mel, I've never seen the point of best before dates on things like veg and fruit as you can usually see or smell if they are fit to eat but your picker should have seen that the tomatoes were way past their best. You're right to ask for a refund. I hope your hip and arm are a bit less sore today.

OH's back is bad today. He has an old injury from 50 odd years ago and occasionally it flares up. He did drive me to the dentist as he says that's not too uncomfortable for him. I said I would drive myself but I wasn't keen though I didn't say that to him. It's a round trip of about 25 miles and although I am apparently legal to drive with my one good eye I am a bit wary about going far, so I have only stuck to drives round here to town, or the hairdressers etc. As he drove for me I've been trying to do the things he usually does around the home and the next job is get the bins out. It's recycling and garden bin collection tomorrow and they have to be taken down the road and placed on the rec. so I had better go and get that done now.

Suns out now but we had rain this morning after I posted.

Went up the post van which is now moved up the village as they had a bad connection to the net.

Shopping arrived and then I fed the chickens and fish.

When I went to put my tomatoes in the fridge I noticed a squashed on in the box which had made juice and another slpit and mouldy one and there little spots of mould on nearly all the others. I have been trying to get a refund for them and on the third attempt managed to get it through. There is no BBD on the box as I think they don't have to do that now!!!

Pc says sunny and 17 degrees now and it is.

AnninGlos Report 24 Jul 2023 17:22

Oh I hope all goes well with your great grandchild Vera. Daughter step daughter was supposed to have five weeks to go when they moved into their new house but baby was three weeks early so they had only been in the house for two weeks and there was still a lot to do like new carpets etc. they managed but it was a bit stressful for Dad as Mum was kept in a few days longer because of the likely stress. All is well now though as baby is now four months old and a good weight.

Bletchley park was great. I had not been before and found the information really well set out. Apparently son and DIL have both been before and there was a lot new, particularly in the D Day area with the film and the Intelligence area. Goodness knows if I will retain all the knowledge. We were there four hours but that involved lunch as well, just baguettes but it took about half an hour. We still didn’t see it all. So much to read, I don’t think anyone could read it all. Loved the house, some lovely carved wood in the rooms and wonderful ceilings.

SuffolkVera Report 24 Jul 2023 12:57

Mel, I know how you feel about not taking too many pills but if the doctor has prescribed them you should take them. Just be sure you don't take more than the prescribed amount and you should be OK.

I am sure you will enjoy Bletchley AnnG. Have you been before? We have been several times over the years and it seems to change a bit each time we go. The very first time we went was many, many years ago on a private tour when it was closed to the public and we were taken round by a lady who had worked there during WW2. It was fascinating as she could really tell us all the inside story. I hope it isn't too wet for you.

It is wet, wet, wet here and only 14 degrees. I've done a load of washing this morning but half of it is on a clothes airer in the conservatory and the other half is in the tumble dryer which I hardly ever use now.

I've just put in a Sainsbury's order for Wednesday and can't believe how much prices are still rising. I do wonder how people on a lower income manage.

I've just ordered some baby equipment for our soon to be born great granddaughter. Mum to be had put a Baby Wish List online so we've picked 3 things from that. I know her parents are buying a pram and my daughter is buying the car seat. Grandson and his partner have had a delay with the house they are buying and are now hoping to move in 3 weeks time. The babe is due in 4-5 weeks so it's not really an ideal time to move. I know from experience as I was 8 months pregnant with our first child when we moved into our first house.

OH has just called out that lunch is ready so I had better go down.
