My thoughts were with you tioday Anng but you had a nice outing with coffee and a good view over the harbour. I aam sure T was with you in spirit, they are never far away.

Em came round for eggs and we had a nice chat which broke the day up. Still can't get used to going down to Banty first before the big girls and then not taking her corn out at night and shutting the shed up. The mice that visited her will be missing their supper of her corn too.

It rained around 10 am, but stopped by 11.15 so we drove to Maryport and had a walk around the harbour to the lighthouse and back to sit by the harbour outside a little cafe with coffees. The sun came out and it was quite warm as we were sheltered. Being bank holiday Sunday there were a lot of caravans in the little camp site and loads of people walking around. It was a nice breath of fresh air and a lovely smell of the sea as the tide came in.
Back then to find something for lunch and for Lyn to put the slow cooker on for tonight. After lunch they are off to watch Workington’s rugby match. SiL is chairman of the rugby league club.
I shall spend the afternoon reading.
It would have been our 63rd wedding anniversary today so feeling a bit sad now I am here on my own.

Good morning all

It's fairly warm and sunny spells at the moment but apparently we are going to have strong, gusty winds and showers this afternoon. I can't wait :-(

I had a smile at your sil with his push-me-pull-you iron AnnG. That's what I call our little local toy train. It's like the sort of thing you see with a train set. There's no ticket office and you walk straight on to the single platform. The train is just a couple of carriages and an engine. It shunts up and down a single track from the station in town to one where we can pick up a London train, passing through 3 other little stations on the way. When it gets to its destination the engine is shunted round to the other end of the train and it starts back up its single track again. I understand the station here was quite a busy hub and you could get to several major towns from it but then in the 1960s it got the dreaded Dr Beeching chop.

I've washed towels this morning and they are in the tumble dryer now. There's a small piece of beef brisket pot roasting in a low oven and the veg is prepared so I think I might have a coffee and try to do a few minutes in the garden before the weather changes this afternoon.

Morning Ang and all,

Its grey here today too and I think it rained inthe night.

Nothing planned for today, I have a little ironing I could do and try and find something I fancy for dinner. Feed the big girls and do some minitures.

I have one of those dozy flies in here this morning so need to get rid of that as it keeps settling on me.

Gosh Mel that pond is causing you a lot of trouble.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2023 20:56

Wish I could have a glass of Rose' but can't being on these pills and a patch.

BIL turned up this morning unexpectidly and spoke about the pond pump and wanted to know all about the set up I had got so he can try and sort it out. The pump they sold me dos'nt turn the water around enough. I shall have to ring Homeleigh tomorrow as they told me it would run the Nexus 220 filter I have but this pump only does 10000 gallons an hour and the pond takes 15000 gallons. I also need to get a bomb for the filter as it needs bacteria in it as its not cleaning the water and two new UV bulbs for the green water.

Oh poor Banty. She had a good life while she was with you Mel.

I had a busy day yesterday but don't seem to have done much today. Once I got going yesterday I hoovered through downstairs and steam cleaned the kitchen and utility floors. I then spent a while in the garden cutting back some overgrown stuff and dead-heading. I also caught up with some emails and did a lot of odd jobs. I felt quite pleased with myself.

Today I've done next to nothing. This morning it was dry but not very sunny and there was a bit of a wind with a nip in it. We did go for a walk by the river. It was more of a gentle stroll than a fast walk but I was shattered when we got back, even though we had only walked about 2.5 miles. We did see our old friends the swans that always nest at the point where we join the river path. They were swimming around with 5 nearly fully grown cygnets. They weren't much smaller than their parents but still in their dull brownish plumage. OH said he thought there were originally 7 cygnets so it looks as though 2 have been lost. There were plenty of kayaks out on the river and plenty of people out for a walk but it was still very peaceful.

You might remember my iron blew up on me and I had to buy a new one. The instruction book says that every so often I should fill the water tank to the maximum level and then pull out the self-clean button. Well, OH and I both tried time and time again to pull this button out without any success so yesterday I emailed the company customer support, asking how to pull the knob out and how I would know the water tank was full to the max mark when you can't actually see through the plastic side to check the water level.

To give them their due I did get a very quick response. They apologised that I couldn't see the water level and told me how many ml of water I should put in the tank. I was then told that the instructions were wrong. I shouldn't pull out the self-clean button. I should push it in!! This iron has been on the market for a good while so I am sure I am not the first person to pose these queries. Wouldn't you think they would have addressed the problems by now? They don't even have to reprint the instruction book. All they need do is put an error slip in it about the self-clean button and state that 360 ml water will fill the tank to the max level. I had checked that this info was nowhere in the specifications either in the instructions or online. I despair of some of these businesses, I really do.

I took some chicken out of the freezer this morning so I had better decide what I am going to do with it and I have a nice glass of rose to drink while I'm deciding. Cheers, hic ;-)

Morning Mel and all

Safe journey AnnG.

It’s sunny at the moment but we’re promised showers and thundery rain this afternoon. It’s a more comfortable temperature now. It was too hot for me earlier in the week.

Your bil is very good to come and help you so much Mel

I don’t have any plans for today. OH asked if I wanted to go out somewhere but the roads will be very busy today, so I think we might just have a walk along the river. Enjoy your day whatever you’re doing.

Morning all,

Safe journey Anng and hope its not too busy on the roads for your trip.

Its 12 degrees here and pc says heavy rain so usual Bank Holiday weather then. I remember when I was young going to horse shows on a bank holiday and having lovely days watching my friends compete in the trials. My pony used to go in with a friend riding him as I would'nt go in the ring.

BIL was here all day yesterday and now he may come on Monday to do a bit in the garage.

Have a lovely weekend all whatever you are doing.

Evening all,

Today has been a much cooler day after the last few days of muggy heat and we've had a busy week ,we've really cut the white rose back this year and took seven full tubs to the tip .
We had a load of wood delivered yesterday ,the two older grandchildren barrowed it round and Colin and I stacked it in the afternoon.
Today we've had an easier day, I did strip the bed and remade that this morning and then had a good hoover through .

Hope you enjoy your day with the boys Anng ,when do you travel if its tomorrow safe journey and hope the traffic isn't to bad .
I have never thought to ask how long the flu jabs lfe was i just presumed it would cover you for the winter but if its that short and everyone knows that then everyone will hang on to make sure it covers you for the winter months which will be a bit chaotic for the doctors .

Morning you two early birds.

Nice and bright here this morning so I am hoping its going to stay. Feels a bit chilly and pc says afternoon rain and it 12 degrees and gpoing up to 16 so it won't be that hot today.

I wonder if BIL will turn up today?

Nothing else planned so will see how the day takes me.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Aug 2023 07:40

Good morning all, although it is bright here, it is only8 degrees so a lot cooler than you Vera. I had quite a good night, Slept from 11 until 12.15 got up for the loo then laid awake for a while, then slept until 6am.

Today we have Granddaughter in law (daughter's almost ex daughter in law) and the two boys coming to see us for lunch. They can do it in a day but I hope the traffic is not too bad with it being bank holiday. It was the only way daughter could work out how we could get to see the boys now they have split up.

Good morning

It’s 14 degrees and quite bright today. There’s no rain expected and it should be a bit cooler than the last couple of days which will be a relief.

It was another lousy night and I was up early again. OH is just stirring.

It sounds as though you had a thorough MOT at your surgery AnnG. That’s interesting about the flu jab. I might enquire about that as we are having ours at the end of September.

I haven’t got any plans for the day. I’ve got plenty to do but I need to find a bit of energy from somewhere or I won’t get much done at all.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Aug 2023 16:18

Daughter and SiL arrived lunch time, they took me down to the surgery for my annual check up. Wow, I had a nurse that I had not had before, she was on time and very thorough. I actually felt it was worth going. She checked BP and took blood for the test, I had prepared a sheet of BP readings over 6 days which she was very pleased with as she said it saved them time. She asked a lot of questions that I have not been asked for a few years and she said I was doing very well for my age. She also weighed me. Just have to wait for the test results now.

One thing she did tell me was. The flu jab for this year has only got a 10 week life, which is very short. So our surgery have opted to do the jab towards the end of October. She said not to go to a pharmacy for the jab because they won't tell you it only has a 10 week life. The aim is to cover the worst months so from October to January. I think it is possible that the covid jab will be at a different time.
