Morning All,

Has taken me ages to catch up on your posts as you have been quite busy chatting.

Thanks for the picture of the pud Jane!! I can see what OH means. We are filling in holes for posts on the decking so perhaps you could send it to us for balast!!!!

Have taken a couple of pics of decking area started and OH is drilling away as I type.

Mum complaining about her eyes this morning, saying they are sore after having her eye drops in last night. She tells me that when we get to the end of the month her eyes feel gritty after she has had them put in.

I ache all over today, don't know why! have had foot ache for a while now but put it down to the weather being hot and wearing rubber garden shoes. Hip playing up too and legs ache at night when I sit in the chair.

Can't find a pair of light weight trousers today so have track suit ones on! May have to go and dig in the ironing pile.

Welcome to New Maureen and her R Whites story.

I always remember going out with my uncle Les and his children and having a fizzy cherryade in a cafe and blowing through the straw. It went everywhere!! Was'nt much good with fizzy drinks as a child as they always seemed to make a funny feeling coming down my nose.

Morning my little honey bees !!!! How are you all,

Jane, Its a wonder to got the rice out of the dish. No don't feed it to the birds, They may never FLY again.

It's another hot one today, Ros has been up since 4am. to hot to sleep. I looked out at 6am and she was asleep in the chair. Went back to bed and listerend to the radio till 9am She was then waking up. Very overcast and humid at the moment, so we might see a shower later.

Did you all enjoy Shirls, Video. I was almost in a trance, will keep that and play it when I feel LOW!!!!

Mel, you should put some shorts on, no one will see you in the garden. That will be much cooler for you. Also try trainers, they won't be to hot on your feet.

Whats our Jane upto today, making cement for a new path, Yor shown have her down with you Mel, as a labourer. !!

I've been to the railway station to get daughter a ticket for next Thursday. She has an interview at Kings in London for a research post. She doesn't really hold much hope ,but says it will be good experience if nothing else.

My dad had a passion for cars the bigger the better and I remember when I was about 7 dad came driving home in a BIG black American car, it was called a Packard Super 8 it was right out the American gangster type films, great big whitewall tyres and the spare wheel in a cover on the side just past the wheel arch, he looked small as he sat behind the steering wheel which he could just about see over the top off, he also wore a white baseball cap! ( a change from the brown trilby) Where he got either of these I can’t imagine as he always said he didn’t like Americans, I think perhaps he was envious of them being here during the war and he having been sent with the Eighth Army to serve in the North African and Italian campaigns, I thought driving the big car must have reminded him of driving the Sherman Tank. (I have been lucky to visit Italy and Montcassino Abbey) and see where he fought during WW11. He was always proud of serving in the Army, he loved to watch war films and collected WW11 magazines. He told me he was what was called a Desert Rat and served under Field Marshall Montgomery My dad passed away aged 57 in 1974.
Going back to the car we went on many trips and a couple of times we went down to Poole Dorset in the Packard but finally the Big End went!!! and the Packard was gone to make way for the Jaguar; I still have a picture of myself standing in front but have no idea of the year or model but I look about 12 years old. I have lovely curly hair, courtesy of a Eugene perm at Ambrose hairdressers in New Kent Road.
I remember the shop assistant wheeled over a contraption called a permanent wave machine and plugged it in, I was terrified, and the curls came out looking like corkscrews.

Carol, That story takes me back a bit.Aged 17 and "Jack the Lad" my friends father owned a Big second hand car business in Ilford, EssexWe all went out one evening to the West end and he picked us up in a BIG BIG American Open toppd Left hand drive car. We swanned around London like lords of the "MANOR" Heads turning, and we could have had the pick of the girls, but if we did, we would'nt have got a lift home. !!!! We had a drive round "BRASS ALLEY" Hyde park corner. Where the Ladies of the night hang out 10 bob, behind the bushes. NO JANE, Never paid for it EVER. We have been out in one of those 3 wheel german cars. can you imagin 6 of us in that. All done up in out Saturday night gear???? When I have a bit of time I will tell you a JOKE about the "BIG END" clean, so don't get excited to much JANE. BBL

Been to Holsworthy and OH has got a lot down while I have been out. He has cemented all the posts in for the decking and has the pool liner in the hole and it is filling up from our well. Hope he dos'nt use all the water in the well as thats what I use in the tunnel.

Must take some more pics.

Carol smashing stories again so please keep them coming.

Carol where do you live please?

Jane you could have used your rice pudding for a door stop!!

Frank what was the car sales place in Ilford I may have known it.

After a cloudy but hot start to the day we have had sunshine most of the time.

Annx Report 30 Jun 2010 18:28

Interesting Carol. The Packhard Super 8 was a fantastic looking car, very gangster as you say. Shame it couldn't be repaired. My dad had a car with whitewall tyres once. I remember cleaning them with Vim.

Jane, I think cars have as many BIG ENDS as they have cylinders.....is that right FRANK?? I remember loads of lads cramming into MINIS when I was young. There were even pictures in the paper seeing who could get the most people in and in phone boxes as well.

Frank I think 'Jack the Lad' sums you up!! lol What was the german 3 wheeler? Not a Messerschmidt.....you'd never get 6 in that!!

Jane

Jane Report 30 Jun 2010 18:33

Frank Report 30 Jun 2010 19:01

Mel, It's so long ago I can't remember the garage.

Annx yes we got six in that messersmidt, 3 in the back 2 in the passenger seat and the driver

Shirl, We all knew the going rate in those days. When I worked in a garage salesroom less than 10 years ago. It was in the part of town that is the "Red light Area" I have been approached on a number of occassions. from 8am and various times of the day till 7pm in the evening. I remember a scabby faced girl approached me and said £10.00 as she needed to buy electric to keep her kids warm. I told her to get a proper JOB.!!!

I see on the local news today that there was over 50,000 at the Royal Norfolk Show. The people did liik hot, Poor Mandy.

Annx

Annx Report 30 Jun 2010 19:05

LOL Shirl!! I bet they stood on each other's shoulders in their tight drainpipes and winklepickers!! lol

It looked a bit thick that's all Jane. lol I'd have eaten it.

Annx

Annx Report 30 Jun 2010 19:16

Flippin heck Frank, you must have all been skinny!! Did you get the bubble roof down too? A lad in the next village to me as a teenager had a grey one of those, mint condition. I would have loved it. He covered the front in spotlights and fog lamps. Pity he wasn't my type.

I bet Mandy has had a good day. The Norfolk show is a big one I think. We went to the 2 garden centres and then to a bird reserve and walked around the lake.....lots of baby Moorhens with enormous feet......wouldn't keep still enough to take a photo. lol That was enough for me as it was really hot. We were cooling off in the car as we went from place to place and I packed 2 bottles of water in a cool bag with 2 ice packs in for us to drink....glad I did. More watering tonight!!!!

Jane

Jane Report 30 Jun 2010 20:07
