Barbara, I agree with you in terms of those in need, but it isn't the PM's background that matters. Even Harold Wilson went to a top class grammar school and Oxford University after that.

What matters is how you cut the cake. At present there is almost an equal split between Old age pensions, the NHS, Education, and Social Security. It is in the order of £100 BILLION for EACH of these services. Another £300 billion is spent on other government services total £700, billion

Per person, man, woman and child, that equates to around £10,000 per person per year, a huge amount of money This all has to be paid for in taxes, income tax, petrol duty, VAT, National Insurance, corporation tax, alcohol tax etc etc

You takes your choice as what has to give.

IGP I realise taxes are going to rise no matter who is in power to pay for services. I don't mind paying a little extra to improve things but I also want all services to be run as efficiently as possible. I wantthe police to have the powers necessary to reduce crime without the CPS throwing it out. I want no parole afterall who chastises a child when they do wrong and then turns around and says there there you have now been good for five minutes.I want sentences to be served in full. Also I want boot camps and the birch so that we have a deterrent. This will be unpopular with most but I also want anyone on jobseekers to be undertaking either some kind of voluntary work or community service and stop just handing out money. This will give the people who do not wish to work an incentive to find work. Anyone who wishes to work but unfortunately cannot find work will keep, improve or learn new skills or on a training course. I am more likely to hire someone who has been doing voluntary work whilst looking for work than someone who has just signed on for jobseekers.
