It looks very much as though it is about to be announced... the podium has just been placed outside No 10... so we'll know soon enough.

The dying moments of the Labour Government, the reporter said.

So, that's it, then. All over. He has resigned. He is about to go and tell the Queen once his speech is over.

Well, I really don't like Gordon, but as I just said on another thread... I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him.

But roll on Cameron and Clegg... I think this could be very interesting... and if it works, it could be really good for the country.

Sad maybe but inevitable. He should have resigned last Friday. In the East of England where we live there are but two Labour m.p' s left. Every single person I have met this last week can't understand why it has taken this long.

MrDaff Report 11 May 2010 19:57

At least he has now made it immediate, including the resignation as Leader of the Labour Party... he did say originally that September he would resign as Leader.

I wont forget this date in a hurry. Its the 5th anniversary of my Mums passing today and 3 months and 10 days since my Dads.

Both devoted Labour supporters in the past although Dad said he would not vote new labour this time. Bless him he didnt get the chance, he was failed in his last weeks by labours vision of social care.

So, at this moment in time, we are without a Prime Minister? BC XX

Jane Report 11 May 2010 20:02

Better to do it now rather than let it drag on.I hope he has more time now to spend with his family.David Cameron will now have an awful lot of time away from his .I don't envy his wife.lol

I am glad Gordon as gone but as I have said on another thread dread David Cameron being the Next PM. He can never understand the concerns of the ordinary people. He has never walked a mile in our shoes. He will never have to make the decision of heat or to eat. He will never have to wait on anNHS waiting list for treatment. He will never have to suffer toothache because he cannot find an NHS dentist.

The rich will get richer and the poor poorer. Tories will always look after themselves. If you look at the expenses fraud they were by far the worst offenders with duck houses and the like. Let's hope for another election in the not too distant future.

Well they got MY vote, Barbara. Let's hope they do a good job and our economy and our lives improve. BC X

MrDaff Report 11 May 2010 20:15

Barbara, I am hoping that having Clegg in tow will alleviate some of that.

Also, some of the greatest social reformers (in the early days, all of them) came from wealthy and priviliged backgrounds.

And Cameron has suffered the loss of a much loved child who also had disabilities. I think that he might understand some things better than we realise. I do hope so.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 11 May 2010 20:22

It doesn't matter how long BC.... they didn't have time to clear the cellars, lol.... what's the betting there is some good stuff down there, lolol ;¬))

Apart from that, we just pass a couple of laws, phone around a bit and chat with Obama and co... you know, just be friendly... easy peasy ;¬))

Could we rush a hefty rise for pensioners through, do you think, or should we tackle the Chateau de Wotsit first....*hmmmm

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 11 May 2010 20:27

Well..... you could go and get the Chateau de Wotsit.... I can start ringing around to people who need to sign stuff... you pour... all very civilised.... we'd have the bill passed before we were half way through the bottle.

InspectorGreenPen Report 11 May 2010 20:30

I don't think we are talking about a caretaking job.

David Cameron will be declared PM, and will continue until such time as he can no longer command a majority, when a new election will be called.

For those who advocate proportional representation, this is exactly what is likely to happen every time there is an election, no overall majority.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 11 May 2010 20:35

IPG.... I am sorry, lol.... BC and I were just being a bit frivolous while we wait..... I sincerely hope that this Tory/lib dem partnership works, and long term... we need that as a nation, the stability, to sort out the economy for starters.

I don't think another election in the near future will be good.

I was just wondering if BC and I had time to nip in before DC gets to no 10 and caretake and nosey around, lol ;¬))
