Katie
Beware....once you post on someone's thread, these boards tend to be addictive,LOL! There are so many interesting topics on here, you just add your two cents worth on any that are of interest to you.Believe me,it's much easier adding your post on someone else's thread than creating your own thread.
Best wishes,
Margot xx

Welcome to Katie and other newcomers.
I'm Uzzi and most of the time in sunshine (just that it's trying to rain at the moment) I originate from the outskirts of Sheffield but moved around the UK quite a bit until I ended up nr Brighton. 6years ago I packed up in an american RV and trundled off to Spain for a year. Still here and settled.
have fun on the boards and good luck with your trees.

Hi Valerie Carole. Nice to know I'm not the only one new on here. Do you still live in Liverpool? Agree, a wonderful place. Fancy being a member for 8/9 years, and never thinking of coming on the boards. Glad you will visit mor often now, so "speak" again soon. Hi also to SylviaInCanada. Another one who knows Liverpool well. A new baby due end of March? How lovely-your first Grandchild. I've just become a Grandma for the 4th time only 5 days ago. Something so special about being a Grandparent. Hope to chat to you often in the future. Barbra, thank you so much for your welcome. Again, Lancashire, so very near Liverpool. "speak" to you again soon, I hope. Hello ValerieM. I've always thought living in a village would be my idyll, although I suppose it might have disadvantages, especially in winter, maybe. I just love the peace and quiet of countryside. Hope to keep in touch with you on the boards. Karen in the desert-now you REALLY are living my lifes dream. I've always wanted to visit Egypt-it's my dream destination, and one day I will visit. Ideally it'll be during a cruise, then I can combine both my holiday dreams in one. Shame you're so far away, but at least you can keep updated on here. Am I right in presuming you originally hail from England?Chat soon, hopefully. Hello Vivien, another new person. Guess the news of these boards being so welcoming must be getting around, with 3 new people joining. Hope to keep in touch with you. Hi Straykitten2010. Another Northerner. So pleased to hear you don't really call your son "Baby Satan" ! Bless him. Four years is a lovely age. One of my Grandchildren is four, and he has me laughing constantly, even just on the phone. I don't see him as often as I';d like as he lives in Hastings, but we talk every weekend. Hope to chat to you on these boards often. Hi Margot. I do have a confession-I had my son by my side constantly when I first started to type, so I don't quite deserve the praise you gave me! I found it less daunting to start an introductory thread myself, than to join in another post, to be honest. I'm going to try to join in another persons thread tonight! I totally agree with you, all this information, friendship and fun, for just a few pounds! Definite value for money! Yes, the time difference will make it less people on here at the same time as yourself, but I suppose you still manage to have many chats-just with a big delay between responses! Hope to chat to you again soon. LadyAugusta-you've done fantastically with yours and your other half's trees. You must be such a patient person! Well done. I'm going to start my research from the beginning on my fathers side very soon. Need to take a deep breath first, coz I know nothing about them! At least I've got a lot of offers of help if I need to shout, from so many people on here. Hope to chat to you again soon. LPC-promise not to take all the bath water-far too early for my bath-but will need to learn your food preferences first before I can leave you any titbits out , but I do admit that I tend to pick at nibbles all evening, so I'm sure there'll be something we can share in the near future! Hope to chat soon.
Thanks to one and all for my many welcomes, and hope to enjoy chatting to all of you very soon. Katie

Hello Katie and Valerie Carole,a big welcome to you both.
I had a "significant birthday" last year and live in Melbourne,Victoria,Australia, hence the odd times that I'm on here.I
I'm still working part-time and enjoy my life very much.
This week I have put up my first efforts at my own thread topics,I have never been brave enough to do that before now.I'm finding it quite addictive really, and fun! You are doing well,Katie,to be posting on your own thread when you are a brand-new member!
After I started doing my family tree, I joined GR in 2007,although I didn't find the boards for 18 months or so.I have found loads of information and had a lot of help from people on here, they are generally very helpful. If you need help, you only have to ask !
I have discovered many cousins, and have made a good friend /email buddy in one of these cousins. When I went to the UK last year,I stayed with her and met her family,I had a wonderful time. She and her OH took me to all their favourite places, in and around London,Portsmouth, etc. and were absolutely fantastic.I'm hoping that she and her OH will come out here to Oz so that we can return their hospitality.
I find the topics on the Community Boards very entertaining, and topical. Where else can you get tips, good advice, helpful web-sites,as well as jokes, poems, wander down Memory Lane, etc., for $19.95 for 6 months?
I've got a feeling that we'll be hearing a lot more from you on these boards,Katie. You seem to have taken to it like a duck to water.
Best wishes,
Margot.
Edited to add: Welcome,Vivien. PollyPoppet has said it much better than I can.

Hi Katie, and welcome to the Boards.
I'm Karen and....guess what? I live in the desert!! Am currently in Egypt but we move around quite often so have been known to reside in various other deserts of this region. There's not many GR folk from this part of the world, but a chap called Keith (who is not a million miles from me, in UAE) posts from time to time.
Seems like you're learning your way around GR fairly easily, but if you need help just shout away!!
Anyway, I've got to to get those camels fed....cheerio for now, K x

Hi Katie I've been a member for about 6 years, but don't post on here very often. I originally come from North London and now live in a small village in North Hertfordshire. I have two grown up children 43 and 40 and one grandson who is 22. I took early retirement from my full time job about 3 years ago but now help my OH with his business. I enjoy reading the threads on here and some can be very funny. I've only met one of the members (Candy Cane/Housework Fairy), we had a mini meet about 2 years ago and she is a lovely person. Welcome to the boards I know you will enjoy 'chatting' to everyone.

Hi Katie
and Valerie Carole
I was born in Oldham, Lancashire, spent 5 years in Liverpool at the uni, 2½ years teaching in Northwich, Cheshire, then married in 1967 and we left the UK 3 days later.
We spent 1967/68 in Austin Texas, then moved up to Vancouver, Canada, for 2 years ...... and we're still here 40-some years later.
I have one daughter, she lives with her husband in Nova Scotia, and is expecting her first baby on March 30
I took early retirement in 2000, and have been on here since 2003/4. I spend a lot of my time helping people on other boards, and some time chatting on either here or General.
and of course I'm around at weird times because of where I live :)))

Hi Elizabeth. Not been serious in my research before, just dabbling really, but am going to make a definite effort to trace my fathers side in the next few weeks. Considering I know practically nothing about them, that'll be quite some task for me, and very probably will involve me begging for help from my newfound friends at a very early stage!

Well Birdi. Northampton market is a vast improvement on the Wellingborough one. I went there for some fruit today, and there were only 3 stalls being used, plus a burger bar. It used to be packed and overflowing when I was little. Such a shame. Sue, your crutch sounds wonderful. A theme crutch! Shall have to visit Wales just to see that. PollyPoppet, thanks for your welcome. I've not stopped chatting all night to some lovely people, so look forward to many hours spent in the same warm company.
