Hello Katie

What a positive thread! Welcome to GR! I am in rural South West France, on my "gap year". A chance to improve my French and research my family tree - which is why I spend inordinate amounts of time on here, though seldom on "Chat". Quite serendipitious, therefore, that I found your thread, which has made me feel very happy. Hope to meet you again soon.

Thanks for the new welcomes. I'll keep disappearing on a regular basis, coz I'm a self confessed tea-a-holic, and it appears my resident son isn't as keen on making it as he is drinking it, so the job always falls on me to do. Also keep going off and reading other posts! It's like a room full of new people, walking from one to another for introductions, all from the comfort and warmth of my own settee (which my dog is hogging most of tonight!) Should just get tough with him, and tell him to lay on the floor, instead of trying to fit round him, in a manner which won't disturb his sleep. Soft, or what!?

~~ waves to all O))

So pleased you've found 3 cousins Katie, I've still other siblings to find but am taking a long rest with my FT, it's a bit like a maze lol.

Please don't worry about replying quickly, we can all scroll down. I had the reverse problem lol ... I type so quickly that it took me a while to realize we're having conversations and learnt to wait my turn. Miss Chief and I used to whizz round the boards then return.

Welcome Katie. Feel free to join in any thread at any time. I am in Sydney and I do that.
Don't be afraid to join the Australian threads - only half of us belong to Oz, a couple are English born Aussies and the rest are from varying parts of the UK who just like talking with us. We keep each other informed of what is going on on the other side of the world - as it's happening!

Thanks Mummo, I'll bear that in mind when I'm in need of a hug. I've got 3 sisters in Australia Berona. All near Adelaide, and I visited them in 2001-the first time I'd seen one of them for nearly 30 years. What a fantastic way to keep world news to the fore, and up to date. Learning whilst enjoying a chat. Can't be bad. I suppose its ok to just press the purple "reply" on any thread if I want to add, is it? Also, what's the "preview" button for? Didn't want to just press it to find out, in case it sent things cockeyed!

Wendy-someone else in Sussex! I quite agree-it is a lovely place. I loved my 10 years in Hastings, and equally enjoy visiting there, which I do often, to see my 3 gorgeous Grandbabies.
Kat, so pleased you found your relatives, and visited them. What an awful trek that is though. I went twice in 6 months to see my family, but I know I won't go again. Even if I won the lottery, I'd only go if I could do the journey in "small steps" of no more than 3 hour flights at a time, and getting off and looking round between flights. 19 hours, with the man in front practically sitting in my lap isn't my idea of pleasure. He wasn't even handsome!
Joy-the evil one? Never! You'll have to explain the "Boro" meaning to me though, please.

Hiya Shelly. What a tonic your message was. Made me laugh-not in a nasty way-just loved your attitude-"can't spell and don't care"! Lovely.
Hiya LPC-thanks for your welcome and kind thoughts.
I've just realised that if I scroll down whilst replying, I can see the most recent messages. Didn't realise that, and was trying to remember who said what! Learn something new every day!

Hello Katie,
Welcome to the boards, I'm Helen, turned half century last year, originally from Brum, but live in Shropshire now, Lots of mad people on here and I am one of the few sane ones, been on here since 2003 trying to do my tree but not getting too far, spending too much time on chat.
looking forward to chatting to you

KatieW Report 5 Mar 2010 22:15

Yes Kat, agree with you, it is great there, but just couldn't do the travelling like that again. 19 hours to Singapore, cramped up, bored, and totally starving! Was nearly on the point of eating my make up! Then a 6 hour flight from Singapore to Adelaide, which wasn't too bad. At least I'd had a chance to walk around at Changai Airport, and eat something. Mind you, I travelled on my own, so maybe if I'd had a travelling companion, I'd at least have had someone to chat to.
Igor, from Northampton? Small world. I'm sure you must get very lonely being the only sane one on here, so I'm very pleased to be the second sane one to join you on the board. Thanks for the welcome
