Are the numbers issued in strict order? or are lapsed numbers re-issued? Also, are they issued to 'free' members or just financial members?

I became a financial member in 2004, but was a 'free' member before that. Not sure when I joined, but I have printouts with 2002 on them. I didn't know I had a membership number until some time last year. It's 1237223 so just how long has Genes Reunited/Connected been going? Anyone know?

Is Stephen still posting though?

The oldest thread I kept was a reply to Stephen. His name changed into the second person who had posted when the boards changed so I assumed that he had left (at least on that account which I cannot assume was no 1)

So who has the oldest number that is still posting/active?
