Thank you ladies for adding to the thread. Not heard of the Charles Worthington shampoos. Another suggestion to add to my list. Like you, Lindain, my hair had to be thinned each trim time. I have never had a perm, or colouring, apart from a year or so in my late teens when I shampooe'd for a hairdresser friend. |

Hi all, I had a nice chat with our Marilyn and then went shopping, got a lovely warm hat , fur fabric and fleecy lined and it fits well so won't blow off in the wind, got to keep those hair follicles warm so they think about sprouting again ! |

Hayley, welcome back. Put on a bold face and look people in the eye, they wont dare to laugh. As I said, the other woman I saw in our local town (actually, it is a city) was just going about her business and I saw nothing wrong with her baldness. She looked fine. As you say, if people dont like the way you look, they are not worth knowing. It is the inner you that matters. |

Sorry to hear so many of you had such a difficult time and experienced side effects to prescribed medication. Alopecia is extremely distressing and can have an enormously negative effect on quality of life. It has been my professional experience that in broad terms there are three reactions from strangers. |

Hi Everyone. I'm only 24 and at the moment do not suffer from this very distressing condition, but I have an aunt who did. At around 50 her hair virtually fell out overnight. She went to her doctor who then tested her blood for a number of disorders. It turned out that she was severly anaemic as a result of fibroids causing heavy menstrual loss. At this time she was told that hair loss due to anaemia was quite common. Once the anaemia was corrected her hair did regrow, but it was a very slow process. Coping with hair loss is such a traumatic experience and my heart goes out to everyone who suffers in this way. |

I did have hair loss due to chemo, but it came back again, curlier but with a receding hairline which people only notice when I get fed up with having a fringe. The worst part was dropping hair everywhere by the handfull! |

Like most of your replies I am in my mid 60's. Have always had fine hair, but 9 yrs ago suffered a heart attack. Was put on simvastatin, blood pressure tablets, beta blocker and was also diagnosed with diabetes, so also have metformin and insulin, oh also aspirin. At least 3 of these products mention hair loss, so didn't stand much chance. It was my hairdresser who noticed my hair loss about 5 yrs ago. I was paranoid at the time, all my family said don't worry, but untill it happens to you no one can understand how you feel inside. Eventually I stopped worrying about it(actually pleased to still be alive) that seemed to help and touch wood it has not got worse, I went from blond to bright red, short spikey hair and use hair thickening shampoo, Tresemme 24 hr. Body Ampllifying Mousse and 24 hr. Body boosting spray both together and then their hairspray. Regards Carol |
