Thanks Uzzi

In my opinion this whole drug thing is pernicious

I quite accept that many people can give it a try and come out the other end, unscathed

But spare a thought for the others (my brother included) who get seriously hooked - and end up dead.

Suezian like with most things ( even my fathers funeral ) I try to find a laugh

what the hell did pernicious mean ....Okay ( I put that in for others also )

it means causing insidious harm or ruin,

I spare a thought for a lot of addicts, alive and dead. Reformed or not. You obviously are one of the few who it matters to instead of being ashamed.

I just went to get chocolate :) !

Maybe I was never interested in trying drugs because I was addicted to sex lol.... that's a flippant remark, but in a way it isn't? From my perspective at the time when a lot of kids try drugs I was wrapped up in the things I enjoyed which made me feel really good...early on that was music, later it was 'romance'.

Like Sue, I know people who can and have taken 'soft' drugs from time to time and come out unscathed, but also people who never moved on from 'soft' drugs, who found that, addictive or not, they couldn't live without them and whose memory, personality and ability to function normally were severely damaged..... the ones I knew who did take hard drugs are generally speaking not here to argue for or against.

I have to go with the opinion that it is much easier to avoid finding out how hard it might be to give up drugs, by not taking them in the first place.... that was my choice. I just really would not wish the agony of trying to give up on anyone , or their families.

Edited because I think I put in a 'double negative' lol and made it confusing

Hi Uzzi

Far from being ashamed, I'm enormously proud of my brother.

He achieved more in his lifetime than I have ever done.

Young children (my only daughter included) loved him - he kept her absorbed with historical tales of the north east which have never left her - and which motivated her right on to her doctorate in history.

I'm not aware of anyone who had anything but good to say about Gareth.

That he fell victim to his addiction is so sad - and, to my mind, is reason enough to have no truck with all drugs - full stop.

Thanks for caring

Sue x

Dope ( wacky baccy ) until 1990 .
I've also dabbled in acid , speed , cocaine .
I tried Heroin a couple of times but it was in a desperate attempt to stop my then partner from going down the road to destruction. It didn't work . He committed suicide nine years after we split up because he couldn't escape being a junkie ? Hated himself ? I'll never really know the answer to that one .
Personally speaking I can see the allure in drugs ( especially for the younger generation , they think themselves SO invincible ! ) but I've seen far to many people go down the serious road and not return. It's a mugs game at the end of the day , in my opinion .
