Jac, I have reported myself at least 3 times now for that word and been thanked for 'bringing it to our attention' lol

I have reported posts on GR - one particular one was completely out of order and a personal attack on a female member who had done nothing to deserve the vitriol that came out of the mouth of the "gentleman" concerned.

I dont report much, cos usually someone else will have done it before I've even read the post and I have always informed the miscreant that I have/will report their post.

I'm therefore not an habitual reporter - just an occasional one.

Oh I forgot - I reported myself once for a naughty word and I didnt even get a slapped wrist))))

Is that because you disagree with what I'm saying Lynda?

~~~Secret Red ^^ Squirrel~~~ **007 1/2** Report 21 Jul 2009 19:21
No that's not what I said Lynda. This refers to people that breach the terms and conditions of GR ie swearing or being abusive, not to people posting innocent threads like Uzzi.
"If you breach the terms and conditions of the board, then you take your chances. Don't come moaning about your posts being deleted....well you can moan lol but don't expect everyone to agree with you. "
Also I said that you can moan, but not everyone will agree with you.
Some people can moan justifiably if they are being targeted, (& I wouldn't even call it moaning) however, there have been times (on more than one occasion) where nearly every thread on the front page was about deleted threads. Surely it can be kept to one or two threads like the Bite your tongue thread and another one addressing the issue?
I did report someone once but I can't remember who or what for now. Its not something that I would do lightly, it would have to have been something bad for me to do that. xxx
TW, I think you'll find that I agree with you there:
"What I don't like people doing is reporting "innocent" threads just because they can or because of the person who posted"
It was Uzzi's thread I had in mind when i posted. It may have not been that clear. Sorry.
What I find odd, is when people swear or breach the terms and conditions on a thread and are upset when people report it. As I said it's a chance you take.
Personally I only report what I find offensive regardless of who has posted it but people may have a different threshold than me and have an itchier trigger finger.
The uproar isn't over posts being reported when there is a genuine reason for that report Lesley. The problem is, when people like Uzzi, or Aileen get reported and deleted, when there is nothing on their posts that could, even in the most vivid imagination, be construed as anything out of the ordinary, thats when upsets are caused.
Uzzi for her memorial thread for her dad.
Aileen for asking what RR is? Well she soon found out didn't she. How would you expain a weeks ban?
To clarify - I don't see what the big issue is.....it doesn't mean I don't have an opinion about it, I just don't understand the current "hysteria" (perhaps too strong a word) If someone can up with a less strong word, I'd be grateful.
Also It doesn't mean that I always stick by my principles. I do honestly try and I regularly live by it regardless of who posts.
However, I can be a hypocrite like with the Uggers situation. (ok it happened the once - but hey I'm not perfect and he was funny)
Edit: besides we all knew there was someone waiting to report him that evening.
Not regularly, but recently I reported a poster for sexual innuendoes.
I don't see what the big issue is with reporting threads at the moment. If you breach the terms and conditions of the board, then you take your chances. Don't come moaning about your posts being deleted....well you can moan lol but don't expect everyone to agree with you.
As Mildred said, there is a time and place for everything particularly on a family tree website and if you cross that decency line well as I said you take your chances.
What I don't like people doing is reporting "innocent" threads just because they can or because of the person who posted. I also find it a bit odd when people regularly turn a blind eye to what their friends (or people they agree with that day) have said and make excuses for them but when someone they dislike has said something a lot milder, there is an uproar.
However, I admit I am a hypocrite Uggers, there was a post that incidentally you posted where you used language which I don't normally condone but I think my glasses misted up that evening ahem so I can't be sure exactly what you posted.
However, as I don't really like you anyway I can't be accused of favouritism. ;)
Sorry if this offends anyone, I seem to have developed some straight talking this evening. Must be hungry.
Have to admit to never having reported a thread.
In the past, if someone was being particularly odious or contentious, I would post some really boring logical reply in an attempt to stop the thread - and I succeeded on quite a few occasions. :o)
Now I can't be bothered. The recent WUMS and nasty little toads that thrive on attention don't seem to have a full set of brain cells, so anyone with a logical comment on their behaviour would get nowhere, and I'm not going to fulfill their wish for attention.
I've read some of the recent posts and feel GR should have seen what was going on. GR deleting a whole thread because some snidey turd decides to spoil it is wrong.
