Ah House Work Fairy, that was just us getting ready to welcome a new year.Like any honoured guest everything has to be spick and span with food on the table and drinks to hand. Spring cleaning ...........now thats a whole other chapter.

I think it's the pagan influences in our past,we had to keep the gods happy and we continue in the same way.The old scottish marriage ritual of handfasting has become ever more popular in the past couple of years and we seem to be reclaiming more of our old customs and traditions, perhaps, in part ,due to devolution, perhaps we just feel a need to be true to ourselves.I should add that it's 4 .35am on new years day and I've drunk the betterpart of 2 bottles of very nice champagne, again part of our heritage as we once shared a Queen with the French, the auld alliance,as it was, is still important to many of us.

Been at M.I.L's all day .She 's got the decorating bug after we did her bedroom last week.Today it was her front bedroom ,took us 6 hours to strip and repaper, she was delighted with it but she's thinking about her sitting room now, just as well it's a quiet time of year for us.Still it is nice to see her happy.

Another heavy snowfall overnight ,our street hasn't seen a gritter yet so despite the efforts of the guys who live here to keep it clear it's a losing battle. We had to dig the car out again this morning but as everyone had to head for work, the road has been left 'til later.By t-time it's likely to be frozen solid, when will we ever learn that in winter IT SNOWS and be prepared. On a plus side it's the first time I haven't felt too hot for months, building snowmen has it's advantages!

Hi Patrica
All councils must be the same this year, our street has never been gritted and when we asked why we were told they are only using the grit on main roads and motorways.
It awful this ice my daughter fell today but luckily she was alright, but I feel sorry for mum's pushing buggy's/prams as it's hard work getting the wheels through the snow.

I am so thankful now my dad who has dementia had to go into a care home at the beginning of December he couldn't remember to leave the heating on so the house was always cold and he would keep going out and walking for hours, I dread to think if he had fallen on all this ice. I really don't think he would have survived this winter living in his own house.

Hi Fiona ,how was Sophia's first christmas? I bet she was spoiled, mine were but it was good watching their faces as they opened their parcels and they were so thrilled our Sophie kept looking upat the ceiling and saying "thank you Santa" due to the fact we told them that the light high up in the corner was santa's camera watching to see if they were good before the big day.Of course it's the burglar alarm ,but it should woork for at least another year

Evening All.
I think I must be the only one around here who goes out in the snow with no gloves ,no scarf, no hat and just a thin coat over my jumper lol. When I get in from taking the dog for a walk I have to take off my jumper ,as the house feels too hot.Night times are still hot for me .Nothing to do with OH lol

Patricia Report 6 Jan 2010 23:30

Hi Jane ,I was down the town today with a scoop neck t-shirt ,jeans and a light trench coat ,like you no hat, scarf or gloves and it was great! I felt quite comfortable for a change, unfortunately my doctor thought I needed my head examined she reckoned that could be the reason I've got a chest infection, hot sweats in cold weather don't mix ,she told me to wrap up when out!!No chance .........the antibiotics will kick in soon.

Cant get our car out of the car park, so will have to call a taxi if I need any shopping. My outdoor thermometer is reading-8.4 at the moment, so I cant see the snow thawing. Thank goodness I got prescriptions before Christmas, We still have insulin in stock which is the most important.

Our local chemist will deliver to your home if it's an emergency,if you've run out or can't get out.The doctors surgery delivers to the chemist and all I need do is phone between 10am and 5pm to order a repeat presciption. You should run that system past your doctor next time you see him,it's a godsend sometimes. my M.I.L.uses the same system at her surgery 40 miles away. They phone her to check the best time to deliver or if she's confined to bed will leave with her next door neighbour who has her spare key.The N.H.S. can be wonderful! Shop for essentials online and get them delivered to your door, the nice man will even carry it into your kitchen for you, though you'l have to put it away yourself.Just like the "olden" days when the grocers boy delivered wiith a smile ,on his bike with the basket on front.
