ive just thought of one new thing
FREEDOM OF ACCESS
pertaining to people and their familys,
we all have a fundamental right to any information held on us on computer etc inc and more so the internet, to be released to us at request
and if i'm right (for free) not for (fee)
in otherwords if someone holds info on my grandad that i wish to see i am entitled to view. this law came out many years ago.
whats stopping anyone requesting held info on them or their relative to be veiwed by them.
has the goverment or past goverment done a u turn on this.
someone out there must know.

I agree with you that the information is freely available i.e. at the Records Office, but what we are paying for via Ancestry and other websites is accessibility. When I first started researching my family history there was no Ancestry so I used to visit the Records Office at £6 a time in fares. I then had to hazard a guess where my ancestors were living at census time - often wrongly - and trawl through endless reels of film in search of them. I for one am more than happy to pay Ancestry to allow me to press a button and up they pop. Genealogy is a hobby and like other hobbies there are expenses involved.

forgive my need to know as soon as ,
i know people my age want info and info fast
ive learnt that some people spend nearly all there life searching there tree and i heard people spending 30 years on trees smaller than mine.
some people lack the luxury of time to find out info and for them i feel sorry that the info is out there for them just very hard to get at even when it has been released.
We now live in a world where even free information has been bought by some one to sale to us.
its like, we know when your grandad was born and where he lived and who with and if you can tell us we will let you know if your right for £3.60 a time. whoops

RIGHT I THINK I UNDERSTAND NOW (FIND MY PAST) HAS THE ONLY RIGHTS TO THE 1911 CENSUS, AND TO MOVE FORWARD I NEED TO JOIN UP WITH THEM.
I SOUGHT OF NEED TO KNOW SOON AS MY SUBSCRIPTION HERE ENDS SOON AND I DONT WANT TO PAY 2 SITES FOR OBVIOUS REASON.
my problem is my age if i was older i would have info for that era unfortunately ive started and my parent are to old to give me that info they just don't remember and i have a big gap in my tree, ive tried soton council site but i can't find how to get dob cert which could get me past this brickwall, any ideas
apart from obvious make some guesses and just buy birth certs that may be right?

Brian, the 1911 is pay per view at present and will be for some time to come.

The census has been released early, except for the "infirmity" column which will still not be available until 2012.

SO WE WILL NEVER SEE 1911 CENSUS RECORDS VIA (GR) EVER
AND WE WILL NEED TO REGISTER WITH A DIFFERENT SITE TO CONTINUE ANY FAMILY TREE WORK THAT MAY RELY ON 1911 CENSUS INFO?

the only place you can view 1911 England census is through www.1911census.co.uk or your can reach through findmypast.com

it is free to search and you just pay to read transcripts

at present on gr i can view census records upto 1901 (gr) allows me access to those records through my membership
does anyone know when i will be able to view 1911 census records via
(GR) ?
