Hi Brian,
The best place to put the thread is on "Trying to Find" board.
To do this, click on "Trying to find".
Then just under the title in the list of subjects, click on New Topic
Put the title In the title box.
In the text box 1st give a brief discription. ie You have postcards dating from circa 1914 that you'd like to try to find the descendants of & forward too.
Then below this give all relevent info on the cards, in a clear & concise way. So that we can help you.

Regards
Steve.

EDIT. PS this has got me curious & will help where I can. Interesting to see where the trail ends.

thats something i have been so willing to do steve
i could not only reunite the post cards but also let the relations know how and where i found them wouldn't that be great if we were them. recently via genes then google i learned where my g g grandfather died in a sinkinking of a ship that sailed from southampton and learned so much very quickly and from lots of info that is online , how great it would be to pass all the information inc the first world war relation that has sent cards from the somme.

Hi Brian, It could be worthwhile starting a new thread to trace those who you'd like to forward them to.
You should have enough pieces of the jigsaw to enable members to help you with this.
House address & town.
Recipients name or partial name & reference of family names in the postcard.
Senders name or partial name, reference to their family members. Town & date stamp mark on postage.

I think this would make an interesting thread. As well as uniting the postcards to the family, you'd also be able to provide a backgroung history of those behind it.

Steve.

PME
many houses then were rented and i don't recall the info on the deeds
ive looked at a street directory for southampton but no sucess to this property i have found the surname and even added to sight once but had know luck
info i have gave me local conection to a relative working at victoria country park hospital but could not back up family who moved into house who i beleive moved to the usa if i'm right. the 1911 would giveme this info based on surname i would hope.

PME Report 8 Mar 2009 00:45

Have you seen the deeds, they should tell you who owned the house at that time.

I'm not sure if the old electoral registers would be of use, I've so far not had to use them.

If there are names on them it might be worth searching the trees on genes or even googling the names.

Brian

Brian Report 8 Mar 2009 00:40

again i 1911 census would reveal the owners as they lived there between 1901 ish and at least 1914 the youngest postcard
i have name and surnames and some good guesses but not enougth info to pass to right family even after some very hard work on my part.
cheers brian:@)

the info on these postcards would be so valuble to her relations i really want to get them to them.
can anyone offer me any advice.
i know its moving away from thread but you guys seem so knowledgeable.
could you send me a message or post something i could send details to
I these were postcards to my nan ect i would just love to receive them.

so many kind words and offers just shows me the level to which some people on this site are so willing to help and i am truely greatfull. I am truely on a great learning curve and many members here are still very patient to try and help and for that I am very greatfull.
my nature is very submisive and I still understand that re messages i may come over very obnoxious, reading back i can see that i may have offended without meaning.
my opologies again to some very helpfull people.
thanks for all your help
esp.. maggie, stevie, jackie and dianne
hopefully one day i may help you.
sorry just once more

Hi Brian, I'm sure that one day the 1911 census will become veiwable in the same fashion as the other censuses. This maybe a few yrs though.
If you're getting stuck with your tree without the use of the 1911 census. There are 3 options.

1, Visit Kew to acces the records

2, Purchase credits on FMP (60 credits = £6:50. searches are free. But view transcript is 10 credits, to view images is 30 credits) I know this is pricey. But should give you a good foot hold to take your family back into the 1901 censuses etc. And cheaper than travelling costs to Kew.

3, To ask very nicely on Trying to Find board, if there is anyone with spare credits to do a search for you. Purchased credits are time limited to 90 days. So there are likely to be some members, who'll soon have credits that they'll have to use or lose. Or have credits remaining after completing their searches.

Happy Hunting
Steve.

EDIT 4th option. A kind lady offers to do a search for you at kew.

Hi Brian,

I for one accept your apology and hope you've now learned that there are many people on Genes who are not obliged to help newbies like yourself but do so because they want to.

If you're really desperate for the 1911 census information and can't progress without it, I'm hoping to pop to Kew in the next couple of weeks. If you pm me all the information you have then if there's a free machine when I'm there I'll have a look for you. If not and you don't get the information beforehand, I'll try the next time I go.

As a footnote from myself i am going to write to Genes Reunited
and ask them wether they feel that the 1911 census will ever become available on this site, so we can view it like other census's, and maybe if that could be possible when would they think what year that maybe.
it's sound very possible like some beleive here, it will never be available to view here ever. only time will tell

Apologies to any on who i have offended.

please forgive my lack of kowledge on genes and in general to adding messages i am clearly lacking in that skill. I am on a steep learning curve.

I found this thread searching for info on the 1911 census and audreys question was pertanent to the one i had.
i thought like minded peole on this site would also use this thread for the same question.
some great answer were given and fully understood by myself and i'm sure others who were looking for the related question.
some where through this thread i have offended some and sincerely appologise.
in reply to some views on me,
i will try to listen, and i will try not to come across with such a bad attitude,
forgive me if you felt that was the way i seem to appear.
I am a very pleasant person beleive me, and would help anyone. there were some other comments about me that i have taken on the hip, but still appologise to those who i have offended.
in all there still was some very helpfull advice given to me by members who found the thread the way i did, and came on to offer audrey and people like her inc me answers to the question and i thank those people who were very patient with me to make sure i understood exactly what the situation was. Thank you guys

I subscribe to Ancestry, but have bought credits from Find My Past to look at the 1911 census. not too dear if you only buy a few, and it has helped me immensely.

i've read through this whole thread twice..
and i still have no idea what Brian is going on about!
whats your point exactly?! people have tried to help you but as far as i can see you dont want to listen because u arent getting the answers u want.

if you want to see the 1911 census for free, go to Kew and look at it there. if you are unwilling to do this, either pay for credits on www.1911census.co.uk...
or wait!!
goodness me!

Brian,

As far as I have seen on this site, noting that I have only been a member for six months so am still a newbie according to your defination, most people are willing to help someone starting out, what people won't stand for is a bad attitude.

I think you need to re-read your posts or maybe get someone who regularly uses forums to re-read your posts and then hopefully you will realise how you are coming accross, its not good. If those lads you trained kept saying they know better and ignoring you, you'd eventually lose patience with them?

You seem to think people are picking on you because you are new to this is not the case, its because of the attitude you seem to have.

Brain I think its unwise to go round burning bridges before you've even started.

Please in future don't hijack other peoples threads to grind your own axe!

Audery and anyone esle whose new to this site, honeslty the members are a very nice bunch, just as in real life remember your P's and Q's and we all get on fine.

P.S. I am PMSL at Brain trying to tell Amokavid the basics. Athough I think it was the wise Amokavid who pointed out we are constantly learning, which is so true.

There is one thing you won't have to pay anything for, and that is good manners.

The way I've seen you speak to the people on this thread is a disgrace.
