SRS when are you going?
We are going in August and will probably stay at the MGM again or the Mirage as they have offered me a great deal.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 17 Feb 2009 22:01

The Deuce as SRS said is great. It costs $2 for a single ride or $5 for a 24 hour ticket.

Don't forget to go to Freemont Street (the Deuce goes there) to see the light show.
Right now (or 2 weeks ago) it was Queen "We will rock you", and Don McLeans "American Pie" We only stayed for the American Pie show as we had seen the Queen one during the summer.

I wouldn't stay at the Stratosphere as it is too far away from the main action on the strip. The rides ontop of the tower are good If you are into that kind of thing. Daughter has been on them.

The Rio is off the strip, but a free shuttle runs every half hour from the Paris.

I've stayed at the Excalibur and The Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood- had a great view), The Luxor & I am staying at the MGM this time :-)

The Excalibur is usually a more reasonable price for that part of the strip, it is older and less fancy but I still quite like the atmosphere in there.

I wouldn't stay at the Stratosphere to be honest - too far from the main attractions for me particularly if you're staying just for 4 days. I don't like the area as much as the other end . Others may disagree.

Edit : Forgot to say My friend stayed there and liked it. You would need to get the monorail or Deuce (bus) if you wanted to see the other side of the strip as I think you would lose too much time walking down to Bellagio, Paris etc

The buffet at the Paris is fantastic. Reasonable at about $27US pp.
The Bellagio I hear is as good and also the one at TI.

Cinderella's castle would be a the Excaliber! One of the lower end hotels.

I like the MGM myself, (stayed there 5 times) but be prepared to walk a long way.
The Flamingo (stayed there 3 times) is center strip. If you book the Flamingo get a "Go" room. It is an updated room.

Treasure Island, Mirage, MGM, Paris, Planet Hollywood are all "middle of the road" hotels. I wouldn't have a problem staying in any of them.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 16 Feb 2009 23:25

Book the hotel room over the internet direct with the hotel. WAY cheaper.

http://www.mgmgrand.com/

There are links to the other properties at the bottom of the page.

There are several places on the Strip called "Tickets Tonight' where you can pick up tickets for that night usually for half price.

Elton John, Cher and Bette Middler are at Caesars right now. Elton is $100 for a ticket.

Would it be cheaper for you to fly to LAX (Los Angeles) and catch a shuttle up to Vegas?
