There is always a little blood thingy.Have a look the next time you crack one.I always thought it was the bit that would have been a baby chick if had been incubated.I don't know if this is right.

I'll let you know Helen !!! I've honestly never seen a blood spot though.......the thought makes me cringe !!!! lol.

Good job I'm fond of my chickens............anyone else and they could've been on the table come Sunday roast time LOLOLOL

Eggs with a visible blood spot on the yolk are safe for consumption. The spot can be removed with the tip of a knife. Blood or "meat" spots are occasionally found on an egg yolk. These tiny spots are not harmful and are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel during formation of the egg. Blood spots do not indicate a fertilized egg. Mass candling methods reveal most blood spots and those eggs are removed, but even with electronic spotters, it is impossible to catch all of them. If desired, the spot can be removed with the tip of a clean knife prior to cooking. These eggs are safe to eat.

I was told the (very tiny) bloodspot show the egg has been fertilised...no bloodspot, the cockerel hasn't been anywhere near the hen...

And honestly if I do see a blood spot in my eggs..........I'm boycotting em..........I don't *do* things with blood........OH has to wash off red meat before I'll even touch it.......let alone *vomits* fertilisation or non fertalisation *marks*

I know no more ....Think I have said enough ....what with making people feel sick and boycotting eggs.!!!!.
I'm off to bed now ,but am thinking I might have poached egg on toast for brekkie.I will check of course to see what I can see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
