I've had a quick squint at it but can't afford to delve any deeper at the moment but it looks hopeful for me as a lot of my crowd are in the London area.

I have to eat my bank statements, Sally.

Amanda, have you had much luck with the advanced search - there's loads you can find for free, especially if you use the other people in the household - given that you have one unusual first name or something:)

My bank statements and credit card statements get shredded as soon as they arrive Uggers! Not that they have much on them but I don't think paying for info off family history sites would be seen as money well spent! ;)

After a wait since the 1901 cock sure 1911 would throw light and answers its now caused a flurry of confusion.by birth place.age, by 6 years and 3 dead children.!!so back to the drawing board and 12 years of research down the wrong bl**y line.:}

I desperately needed Durham and Essex, so will have to be patient and wait for official launch.

I only spent £6.95 and found new information about my GG grandparents.

GG grandfather Harry entered the names of his deceased children and places of birth on the census return.

So now, I need to track down the births and deaths of Henry, Ivy and Violet West born in Poplar between 1900 and 1911

When is the 1921 due out? And any chance of it being before my ancestors have driven me totally round the bend? !!!!!!

Hiya David, I'm skint and couldn't afford to buy but I did find my Dad as a three year old and one of our lovely mutual friends (Pat) sent me the image and I sat and cried! Another of our lovely mutual friends (Chris) sent me the image of my great uncle who lied through his teeth on the census !!!!!
He said he'd been married to this 'lady' for 3 years and that her child from her second marriage belonged to her first husband ..... naughty naughty gt uncle ! LOL

Does this work, Amanda?

I've saved loads on the advanced search - if you just put in surname and district and a more unusual christian name if you have one, it can really help. Also if there's a spelling mistake - I had an Elizibeth Smith or something similar so it was easy to find those in the household lol

Hope you have some luck on FreeBMD Joanne

Helloo Kay - I haven't had that - was disappointed enough to find my one great great grandmother as a widow but I think she's lying.

Hello Viv - I have been really surpised at how honest some of mine have been about the length of the marriage! Some haven't though and I have one who reckons to have been married 20 years but I'm sure she ain't married at all

Hi David, I've had great fun over the last few days, definitely my best christmas present (I know sad isn't it) and have managed to find most of mine that should be there. I've just added it all up and I've got 21 images and I do know exactly how much I've spent and it's quite shocking (good job my hubby never reads these boards). I've spread it over a few credit/debit cards so it won't look too bad if he spots them one at a time!!
I don't know how some of you can be so restrained, if I know it's there I've got to have it, just waiting for Essex to complete my full house!

David, my grandfather was very honest about his family, shame his elder more financialy affluent brother wasn't !!!

I have a copy of his will proved in 1924 ( written in 1917) and he calls this woman by his surname and in brackets her surname from her second marriage and he says she has lived with him as his wife these many years. There is no record of a marriage for them and she inherits all his money and property (2 houses).

No wonder I'm skint LOL.

I too would like to know - am not a newby - has something passed me by?

Gypsy

Gypsy Report 29 Dec 2008 22:43

YES, I am too.
Have done little else online but look on the 1911 since it arrived. I have though found a few things that are really interesting. I know now that the grandfather I 'thought' was mine, definatley is! :-)
I have also confirmed my belief that my great grandmother changed her first name as a child, She is on the 1911 using both names. So I am very pleased.
I took full advantage of the advanc search and found that you can actually find quite a lot without spending anything - Especially if the names are more unusual.
i too wish that you could have a wildcard search facility - I am desperate to find my Romanian ancestors (Although I don't know for certain that they were in Engand by then) but with such an unusual surname, I cannot be sure if they are not here or if the name has been spelt wrong. i need to search by fist name.
I do however think that it is expensive, I have purchased the images that are extra important to me, and just the transcripts for the others. My husband gave me a pressie plus £30 to spend on the 1911 from the children for Christmas! LOL, Im eating the credit Card bill too!!!
