Hi Pam, I haven't seen that one - think Jane Horrocks is fantastic though, she always made me laugh in Absolutely Fabulous as Bubble!

"little Voice" with the wonderful Jane Horrocks singing! As usual Brenda Blethan was exellent and the bit near the end where Michael Caine does his nut singing is so funny!

No I've never seen it Ed, but it has been shown on telly and next time I'll have to watch it. I know what you mean it's strange seeing actors in roles that are so unlike their norm isn't it.

Yes I do remember "On The Up", I also remember Ray Winstone playing Will Scarlett in the 1980s series Robin of Sherwood with Michael Praed.

Have you ever seen the film "Sexy Beast" which is about a crook who retires to Spain but is constantly tempted to come back for one last job by an old acquaintance?

Ben Kingsley plays the other main character and it really is an eye opener to see Ghandi playing an absolutely psychopathic thug!!

EDIT: If you do ever get a chance to see it be warned: the dialogue is extremely fruity and uses every four-letter word imaginable!!

Quadrophenia, yes I've seen it a couple of times...funny old ending where he goes over the cliffs at Beachy Head as I remember. He's a good actor Phil Daniels as is Ray Winstone.

I remember Ray Winstone in a comedy aired in about the mid nineties, he had a wife and a couple of daughters in it and they have to live with his dad as they've hit on hard times. It was called On The Up and it showed Ray Winstone as a very comical character. Do you remember it? Oh yes and Larry Lamb played his brother in it.

Might not be everyones cup of tea but I like it, "Triple Echo" with Glenda Jackson and Oliver Reed. It's about a farmers wife who's husband is away in a P.O.W. camp during WW2. This young army chap deserts and ends up being her lover. To keep him out of going back to the barracks they end up hatching a plan where by he dresses as a woman and pretends to be her 'sister'. He gets a bit to over confident in his disguise and when an army seargant (Oliver Reed) asks them to go to the local dance he accepts thinking it will be a laugh and the out come is far from that!

I think one of the best films of the 70s was Quadrophenia with a young Phil Daniels, Sting, Lesley Ash and Ray Winstone.

I remember it distinctly as it came out at the time of the Mod revival (I was a rocker - I had hair then!) and everything getting a bit OTT at time in London.

Can you get it on DVD? I seem to remember there being a clause from Who films stating that it would never be brought out for the home market.

No I've never seen American Graffitti either...and we've all got to be around the same age I'm guessing.

Nope Pam, you're spot on there - Christopher Casanove does play his blind father.

The baddie in it is played by Rufus Sewell.

I love the way the music is worked into the plot - We Will Rock You being belted out at the opening tournament, how Heath Ledger winds up dancing to Golden Years with the "fair maiden", etc.

"That'll Be The Day", 1974 with David Essex. Remember going with some friends to see it. I remember thinking that Keith Moon looked really rough in it. Another victim of drugs. I thought Ringo Starr played a good part. My friends were all in love with David Essex, thought he was a bit girly. Good film, haven't seen it for a long time.

Do you know ed ..I don`t think I v`e ever seen American graffitti....where have I been all my life........ it has to be one of the great classics of that genre, and little old me hasn`t seen it...!!

Heath Ledger A Knights Tale..... I think some of it was filmed up near me at Arundel Castle... like you say what a waste of life...

Have either of you seen Monsters Ball with Heath ,Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry? quite a dark film, but very good. Halle Berry plays the widow of a man executed on death row, Billy bob thornton is the executioner and Heath Ledger his son, who isn`t the hard faced man his father is, and though works with his father, struggles on a daily basis with what he actually does for his living... well worth watching if you havn`t seen it already.

Night Nicky, sleep well.
Yes Ed I've seen a Knights Tale a couple of times. Yes what a waste of a young life, he seemed a nice young chap and leaves a little daughter too. Yes James Purefoy is in it I believe.......ha ha!

Doesn't Christopher Casanove play Heath Legger's blind dad or am I losing it completely.

One of my favourite "growing up" films is American Graffiti, also with Richard Dreyfuss (has it been mentioned already?)

Love the bit with the Pharoahs where they get Dreyfuss' character to chain the rear axle of the police car to a bollard!

Also the "burn up" at sunrise between the guy with the yellow hot rod and a very young Harrison Ford to the sound of "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs.

Great music score to that one too ...

I`m afraid I`ll have to take a rain check ...... {no pun intended!!} and give your film a miss Ed as my bed is calling......though think Iv`e seen it before OH says we have.....he`s watching Wild Wild West with Will Smith at the moment.

Misery...... oh yes Pam, a great film, and of course Shawshank Redemption another Stephen King.........one of those films that always scores highly in top tens etc... Brilliant film, thoroughly enjoyed it .

Havn`t yet mentioned Stand by Me..... a film from the 80`s set in 60s/70s America, about 4 young lads and their adventurers/secrets and the way their experiences shaped their lives, its years since I`ve seen it, but its a real feel good movie..... I think Richard Dreyfuss played one of the boys grown up....

Also a little known film with Richard Dreyfuss.......Mr Hollands Opus..........don`t watch it if your feeling sad, its one of those films that eats away at the heart strings, havn`t seen it for years, but i have it on tape {VHS} somewhere.... i must dig it out.

Has anyone seen "A Knight's Tale" with the late Heath Ledger? (What a waste of a young talent).

It's about a squire who steps into his late master's boots (or should that be armour?) after the knight dies during a rest period in a tournament.

He goes on to become a champion at the jousts and his helped along the the way by a rag-tag band of outcasts, including a young Geoffrey Chacher (played by Paul Bettany) who is styled as a hopeless gambler. You see Chaucer for the first time "trudging" down a dirt track in the buff after losing his posessions in a dice or card game.

He is also helped out by a lady farrier who designs his armour and puts her "mark" on it; which bears an uncanny resemblance to the NIke logo!

You'd like it Pam - it has James Purefoy in it as The Black Prince!

Hi everyone,

There's a good film starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia about to start on Film 4 - Black Rain. Directed by Ridley Scott, it's about a pair of New York policemen who go to Japan in search of a Japanese gangster.

I remember seeing it at the cinema when it came out.

Hi Nicky, yes I've seen that film...bit naff but who cares you get to see his bum!! He's got lovely brown eyes...I love brown eyes!

Anyway I'm going to put my sensible head on now and try to think of some more good films.

'Misery' with James Caan and the very scary Cathy Bates. My daughter had it on DVD and I an't believe it was made in 1990...where does the time go! She loves all Stephen king stuff.

Ed....Juggernaut, thats it thank you.......it was a good film wasn`t it.

Pam......I found your Ted in his loincloth just by googling and looking through some photos, it was a photo from the film Sheena which also starred Tanya Roberts {ex Charlies Angels}, but I`ve looked and looked tonight and can`t find it, its probably hiding up there in cyberspace, along with all those text messages that don`t get delivered and emails that go astray....lol....... Yes I do remember Soap but never watched it.
