Doris Day was not only a fine singer but also a good dancer.

As was Debby Reynolds

Don't know too much about those. Isn't that where they (the dancers) all jump into swimming pools and are lifted heaven wards on great big fountains of water? Or am I barking up the wrong tree on this? Think all the dancers used giant fans etc to create illussions of different shapes etc. If it's what I'm thinking of, yes wonderful stuff!

The earlier Busby Berkley extravagasers were very entertaining

Oh yes Ginger was wonderful and that was a very famous quote of hers! I still have all my dad's Fred and Ginger videos, I love them I really do.

Flying Down to Rio
Swing Time
shall we Dance?
Follow the Fleet
Top Hat

To name but a few.

Another one our favourites we watched a lot together was The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle.

My dad said to his doctor in his latter years there was only ever one woman he'd really loved, his GP, a lovely lady asked if that had been my mum. My dad replied "Oh no Dr. C****h, apart from my Pam, it was Ginger Rogers! He said it so seriously, it makes me smile everytime I think of him saying that.

Bit of film trivia, Ginger was married five times and died aged eighty three. She was buried in Oakwood Memorial Park California, next her mum and just a few yards from Fred Astaire...how lovely!

I enjoy watching the old musicals. Been years since they made one. The public must have went off them. The Sound of Music was excellent.

Fred Astaire was was it is agreed a very good dancer. But, Ginger Rodgers must have been even better because she had to match his every step backwards and in high heels

Another dancer, Vera Ellen was married to Rothchild

I watched earlier on telly the Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean 'Bolero story.'

As a little girl I remember watching George Raft and Carole Lombard in Bolero the film of the same name. It was made in 1934...so fifty years before their ice dance. I was about eight or nine I suppose and thought that Ravel's Bolero was the most wonderful tune I'd ever heard, so haunting and I love it still. Carole Lombard was so beautiful in the film and George Raft looked so hansome and they seemed so right together I thought. For 1934 the dance scene wa very risque! It has a sad ending, I loved this film and would love to own a copy. Might have alook on e bay.

I might have mentioned Bolero before, if I have well never mind, it deserved another little mention as it's a romantic and it is Valentines Day. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Hi David, yes I read that he was. I believe a lot of his time in the navy was spent after the armistice was signed, ferrying troops back to England.

Good actor.

Bogart headed an excellent cast in The Caine Mutiny

Bogart was in fact in the navy prior to films

Hello again Pam,

Just Googled this bit of trivia:

T. E. Lawrence died six days after he crashed his Brough Superior from head injuries. The neuro surgeon treating him was so appalled by Lawrence's injuries that he conducted extensive research that led to the development of the crash helmet.

I agree with your comment about David Lean. He had this ability to include vast sweeping panoramic views that added to the ambience and atmosphere of a film (My god I can talk some right bull**** at times!)

Another film that I bought on DVD a year or so back and thoroughly enjoyed was Kingdom of Heaven starring Orlando Bloom. One of Ridley Scott's films - he's another director who's work I admire.

Just about to watch Dracula: Prince of Darkness - I fancy a good laugh!

Apparantly there is a memorial plaque at the crash site near Bovington. I believe a tree was planted too.
