Yes Ed totally agree, if its not Costume/Period dramas its any sort of reality TV.....fly on the wall, ranging from shopping Malls, to Airports, to a dozen or so fame hungry young people in the Big Brother house every summer.........they`re cheap to make, the wages bill must be zilch apart from the Camera Crew, and us { The British Public} like idiots watch all these low budget shows and kid ourselves we`re being entertained.!!!!

i`m afraid your on your own with the Star Trek Movie. i`d rather watch paint dry........!!!!! Lol........ but if you need a companion OH would love to see it.....

I think the main reason we don't see the likes of Rawhide, Bonanza, The High Chaparal etc on TV anymore is because the popularity of the genre has waned.

We now watch costume dramas (and we should really consider western TV series as costume dramas) based on the classic novels.

New western films are as rare as hen's teeth nowadays as well - there used to be a time when they were churned out at a rate of 4-5 a year - but now we crave special effects - which lend themselves to science fiction or Marvel comic-like stories.

Talking of which I really want to see the new Star Trek film.

Hi nicky, never seen any of the X Men films, that Hugh Jackman's a bit of alright though!

David, you could be right maybe Clint has bought them as you never see them repeated do you.

Been to see Xmen Origins Wolverine tonight........very different to the 3 earlier xmen films, more of a story to this one, and we all enjoyed it......

I see Transformers 2 is out in the summer, I loved the 1st one, only went to see it as yougest daughter wanted to go, and surprised myself, it was really good, lets hope the sequel matches up.......

Tom Hanks has a new film out, saw the trailer tonight, Angels and Demons, similar i think to the Da Vinci Code { not that i`ve seen that anyway}, but I think the book is from the same author.

Hi Ed, don't remember "The Illustrated Man", but yes remember him playing Bonaparte in Waterloo, he had the stature for that part didn't he.

An exellent actor and a favourite of mine, I think I've said before...he was wired up a little differently. He was good in another of my favourites, Doctor Zhivago.

Talking of Rod Steiger, does anyone remember seeing the film "The Illustrated Man"? It was based on a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury. It only contains three of the 18 stories, but I'm a great fan of Bradbury's books. Many people ridiculed the film, but I thought Steiger's portayal of the tattooed vagrant was excellent.

I also think Steiger's interpretation of Napoleon Bonaparte in "Waterloo" was also very good.

Well I think we must have a hat trick of the same opinions on the Time Machine....OH was watching it last night while i was on the computor.....I woke him up when I went to bed!!.....always the measure of a good film that....if you stay awake,no matter how tired you are its worth seeing again, if you doze off in the first 10minutes...don`t bother.

Have seen those Hitchcock films John many years ago, but can`t remember them very well...there was another good one Rear Window, which they re-made with Harrison Ford i think, that was good.
Like Pam a bit of a bird phobia, so that ones a definite no go for me.....

Rawhide........has no one mentioned Rowdy Yates, wasn`t he played by Clint eastwood? Think it was one of his first big roles...

Elizabeth.....my dad used to like that On the town film....he was a huge Sinatra fan, and also loved the Road to.......films with Bob Hope.

Robert Stack in the Untouchables, great.

Must confess to being an Alfred Hitchcock fan. Enjoyed Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train amongst others.

Hello film buffs and welcome Elizabeth, Yes hubby watched that film too Ed, and his opinion was much the same as your's.

Yes what a handsome chap Cary Grant was. Robert Sack has not been mentioned on here before, good actor. Glad you like our thread Elizabeth, please visit again, we're very small, but very select!

Rod Steiger, ah one of my favourite actors Mo, he was exellent playing Al Capone. Another film which he played a man going through a bit of a mid life chrisis, also had i think Judy Geeson in it, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. Think it was made in the seventies. Yes, Dean Martin was a very good straight actor, and I think we've mentioned Rio Bravo on here before...he's trying to come off the booze in it I believe. Isn't his name Dude in the film? I know for a fact he sings the films score "Rio Bravo", as it was a favourite of my dad's that and many more of his.

"On the town" the exuberant musical about 3 sailors on leave is enjoyable if you are feeling a bit down.

The cast is superb Gene Kelly, Frank SInatra, Betty Garett, Ann Miller.
Great.

I also like film noir films from the 1940's.

There is one called "Desperate" where Steve Brodie is on the run from the police, the mob and almost everyone else and he hasn't done anything wrong!

The other film is D.O.A with Edmund O'Brien who is mistakenly caught up in a plot. There is a twist in the end.

This board has brought back lots of happy memories watching films.

Well, that's the end of the Time Machine. It was OK but not one I'd bother to watch again.

I think they should make a film of Robert A Heinlein's novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". Mind you, the film industry would probably make a complete mess of it, like they did with "Starship Troopers" (one of the best sci-fi novels ever written).
