How about films we don't like?

I walked out of "Closer" after 45 minutes, only Julia Roberts film I did not like.

Also very disappointed with "Atonement": boring boring boring.

I typed "I feeeeeel god" first time around (God = diety)

Maybe I should have said the beer didn't make me feel religious; I certainly didn't start praying to God on the big white telephone!

Jeez, re-reading my post from last night I must have been p***ed!

Isn't it funny how you'll talk about something then it will suddenly happen.

You may remember several posts back how I mentioned the film "Cat Ballou". Well I went to see my mum yesterday afternoon (Saturday) and we had the box on and sure enough there it was on the telly!

We watched and laughed and sighed throughout the film (most of my sighing was over Jane Fonda). Oh it brought back memories of childhood, definitely a film from a more innocent era; whilst there were a couple of deaths (Cat's father and where the dual roles played by Lee Marvin sees Kid Shallen face off with Tom Strawn), the killings were muted; you don't see the actual act, no blood, no "grat vi" (gratutitous violence), just an understated scene to tell you the deed was done.

Still love the final scene, with Lee Marvin as the Kid, where he's fallen off the wagon and he's p*ssed as a f*rt on his horse, leaning up against the side of the barn, with the horse looking drunk as well with it's legs crossed!

Take me back to those innocent days ...

PS it's taken me a few edits to put this post up; just been for a few beers with my "oppo" up the local pub that is a free house which supplies some really good ale from the local brewery. Had a few pints of "Conservation", followed by a pint of "Sidepocket" and I feeeeeeel god ...

EDIT (again) that's feeeeeeel good ... (it doesn't turn you into a diety ...)

yep Ed you got it........Dungarees on men, they`re right up there with the Shell Suit........... fashions that should NEVER have EVER got beyond a design on paper.

Its funny really the female inmates in Prisoner Cell Block H all looked really butch in their dungarees, while the men in Scum just looked like a load of Nancys......

Public Enemy opens this week, might try and get to see it next week.

Mark Eden did play the wicked Alan Bradley on Corrie and is married to Sue Nicholls (my uncle, incidentally, used to be her postman!) And yes Pam, I do believe he is another St Pancras born, real name Douglas Malin.

I do like Scum, very harrowing film, but I do grin a bit now at Ray Winstone prancing around in tight dungarees screaming "Who's the Daddy?", bejeezus, twanky or what?

Morning folks, yes used to watch The Streets of San Francisco in the seventies, he was a good age though wasn't he. As you say though a good actor.

Yes Nicky you're right about some of the films with Ray Winstone in, and yet he was in a situation comedy in the nineties which I really liked and he was very funny in it. I like him as a bloke and he comes across as a nice down to earth fella. Watched part of that film Scum a few years back, but no, it was far to nasty for me and realistic. I like Amanda Redman and she was in Sexy Beast wasnt she, but I just don't like violant films, they tend to play on my mind.

I've worked a night shift last night so am off to bed soon, knackered!

I've just seen that the actor Karl Malden has passed away, aged 97.

I remember him in Patton as General Bradley, The Halls of Montezuma, and let's not forget as Lt Mike Stone in the Streets of San Franscisco, alongside a young Michael Douglas.

Another great character actor who will be missed.

Yes seen it before Ed......... its a very different role for Ben Kingsley, and as you say ultra violent, don`t think it will be Pams cup of tea somehow..

.I love Ray Winstone, I caught the end of Scum the other week and had forgotten just how harrowing that male rape scene was, it was very risque for a film made in the late 70s, yet somehow i was more moved by it this time than I was when I watched it as a teenager..........prehaps i`m getting more sensitive with the years...Lol

FILM FOR TONIGHT:

If you haven't seen it, I thoroughly recommend "Sexy Beast" on Film4 tonight at 11:05.

It's the story of a retired criminal (Ray Winstone) who is tracked down by a psychotic ex-associate (Ben Kingsley) to do one more job.

I have mentioned it before, it is a brilliant film and Ben Kingsley steals it as Don Logan. There is a lot of violence and very explicit swearing, but it is in context with the plot and if you ever want to see Gandhi reeling of a stream of four-letter words then it is worth a watch.

OK, a bit of acting trivia for you all - my mum used to live next door to Mark Eden when she was a young woman.

Here's abit of film trivia, I used to work with a lady who's dad was John Hurts first cousin, she was a lovely lady as I recall and you could see the family resembelence. Scarey film Alien...loved the Elephant Man, although very sad...remember a young Lesley Dunlop in that...she's in Emmerdale now isn't she.

Clint Eastwood's character used far more explosive devices than he could possibly have packed into that rucksack of his.

I like the car chase near the end before they were picked up. They were very destructive.

There was an actor in the tower at the airport playing a German who used to be the Polish son in law of Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street.

I lurve Where Eagles Dare, especially the cable car scene.

I'm like you Nicky, I've never seen Gone With the Wind all the way through either. As a matter of fact I can't really tell you what it's about other than it's set in the American Civil War and Vivien Leigh's character is a bit of a madam. (It took me a couple of minutes to remember her name in it is Scarlett O'Hara)

You should enjoy those David, though I must confess Iv`e never seen Gone with the Wind all the way through, but love Where Eagles Dare...
