I noticed a couple of people said sausages and bacon. I thought that these days you were not allowed to take those items into EU countries. With my luck the sniffer dogs would smell them out. They have them in the check in queues now sniffing around luggage.

I would miss bisto and marmite. fortunately where we stay in Tenerife there is a supermarket that has a British section and a German section (German cherry jam is lovely). You have to be lucky as they have one lot of stuff in, sell out then ages before another lot.

edited to correct finger trouble!!

No, Liz, not really. I think we are a very, very adaptable nation (think of the folks who built our Empire!) but we are just used to good, honest, tasty food that does not make us ill.

I haven't been anywhere much but if I had to live in Namibia I would miss our fruit juice. All of theirs has apple juice in it.

Their Marmite is not the same as ours either.I think it is because their beer is light like German beer so they must have a different strain of yeast.

While I was there I developed a taste for something called Sprinkle Spice which is like a dry form of Worcester sauce which you use as a condiment like salt or pepper.
Of course I bought a proper sprinkler and several bags to bring home.Namibia is a desert climate, very dry and the sprinkle spice flows freely. As soon as it hits Britain it is roll about in a big ball spice,Goddammit!

What is it about pork pies??
When they are readily available, Brits can go for weeks without touching one, but as soon as they are scarce - we need them!!
Yes, and I had forgotten how we longed for good bacon and cheese and sausages as well.

Hi Rose, their bread is sort of vinegary, isn't it? At least you can get good wholemeal sliced now lol
How will you manage to do his bacon and eggs when you live there lol

When my friend lived in Nigeria, and came home every summer, she would send via her hubby's company so free carriage, teachests back with all sorts of things, obviously only certain foodstuffs but things she couldn't get there and missed.
