I reinstalled adobe acrobat and WOW! I've dug up extra details about a family bancruptcy and chancery case complete with actual death dates and maiden names!

Well, not very exciting but I have found two of my Uncles had the ISM (Imperial service Medal) given to all civil servants with long service.

But I wonder if I am searching properly. Susan, where are you finding the lists of service personnel?
Will keep looking but got interrupted when OH dropped the new kitchen blind he was putting up onto a china container in the kitchen (belonged to my Mum but not valuable). didn't do it a lot of good!!!

It's interesting that just one paper can have had so many results for more than just the odd few .....I hope some brick walls have been broken today..... I sometimes feel a bit greedy when it just seems to be me having the luck..:-))))..still haven't found my Irish fellah though.......ooooo just remembered...the Befast Times is also on line for those who are interested.

I havent bothered using any of the years and dates as I may miss some.....use the middle box where it says Exact words...enter full name or add area etc

Edit:...mind you, it may be a good idea to use the dates filter if you are getting too many hits and want to narrow it down to certain years.

There are also list and lists of armed forces....not just the higher ranks...all with numbers.....Followed one's army career right to the top until his death

Just found one of my Oh's Uncles who we knew had died but didn't realise he had got an honourable mention as we couldn't find his papers on ancestry.


Just back in the bankruptcy courts now finding some hidden family secrets :-)))....brings yer down to earth lol.

Loads and loads of results in my family name - many of whom could well be mine looking at the areas and occupations - i won't know for sure until i can the file out and check back thru all my records.

Susan: Yes ive been searching under the surname (Italian) and knew that a lot of them changed their surname to (French) around the 1940's.
Ive just discovered that two became Kents and one became a Wilford....two surnames we would never have thought to look under!

Searching for Donviglio Elvio Lazaro (Italian) is fairly easy...he became Peter Richard Kent though, which is a little more common!

Oooooo Dafffers, Yes please!......will let you have the details later if I don't fall alsleep at the laptop :-)

Yers....I was going to try that one but thought I would leave it 'til Later :-)))) anyway...don't just put the surname or you will be there forever......believe me I know lol I found out the hard way.

It know understand why i am struggling to find records for some ancestors...they changed their first names and surnames from very distinct italian names to very common english ones!
