How did you find the "change of names" as I can't find that

Glad you found something Leanne and Heather I am still grinning about the ones I have found, so know how it feels :-))))

I am afraid I stumbled upon it when I entered one of my names Heather......It wasn't one of mine after all but made facinating reading especially as there were so many in just the one year.

I'll try to find it again but there are so many pages that unless you have someone who may have changed their name it may be quite a trawl without using the search engine.

But will add that three of the surnames in my tree are Mules, Miller and Beer. You can imagine the tripe that comes up regarding horses, donkeys and the like and then flour millers and then breweries!!!! But my other unusual surname has come up trumps but needs careful looking at - might have a couple of knighthoods!

In the London Gazette, I found a record of my GG-grandfather dissolving his Hull-based plumbing business, in 1892. We knew he moved to London by 1901 and now I have a clue about when and why.
In spite of the firm being called "and Son" the other named partner was actually his brother.

VERY useful site this.

just tapped in the town where I live and according to the 1901 Gas Act we should be paying 4shillings per 1,000c.f for our gas and that was published in 1922 I,m off to the council to get my rebate lol
My old headmaster received a C.B.E bless him

On doing further research the "Knighted" surname appears NOT to be a direct line of mine the middle name of B is not as expected! - boo hoo lol
Never mind. But there are still loads of research to do on one of my surnames.

I knew my father in law had been made bankrupt in the 60s but could not find him, but by tapping in his surname first followed by his first and middle name up it came. I was doing it the other way round

Now my problem is do I wake my husband up,( who has just done a 12hr night shift), to tell him.

Thank you all for adding. I am so pleased the site has had so many successes... and a free one at that. :-) I tied up so many loose ends in my own reaserch. :-)))))

I have to admit to knowing about it a while back but hadn't seriously thought it would help with research as much as it has.

Update.....I am so excited yet again.

A second cousin just sent me details confirming a birth and parents who died. She and her sister were placed in a orphanage just after 1845. I have just found him in the London Gazette. He was made bankrupt in the same year as his death.....cant wait to get the death cert to see if it was natural or self inflicted. We had no idea he ran a company!

Susan, Have you still got your head buried in the paper!!!! Haven't had time to look today but will get back to it later.
