thats awful! I cant say iv seen that in my store but I could tell you a few stories that would shock but do have to be a bit careful now iv confessed to working for the company

I used to work for Tesco (for a very short time) some of their procedures were little short of distgusting. One shoplifter found with a fresh chicken down his trousers was apprehended and the chicken returned to the chiller...never shopped there since the day I left

it seems most of you have an issue with the veg in tesco and not the availibility and its true we should be complaining rather than moaning to each other but the reason i started this thread was because i work at tesco and have a few issues with the way we do things and wanted to see if the customers felt the same

been reading through this thread and i have only bought stuff from tesco once and it was vile family refused to eat it

cooked meat was full of salt and salad was mouldy tasting only went in there because i was in a rush and needed something for tea

i always use butchers and greengrocers, most veg i grow myself.

it may be more expensive than supermarkets but its false economy to throw substandard food away

my friend told me all asda fruit and veg is frozen then defrosted before being put on shelf dont know if its true.

Kaz, that's very true, when you see supermarkets in Zimbabwe with nothing on the shelves and other places the same, makes you count your blessings.

I always make a point of complaining if I am not happy, I was in a Co-op on Thursday and noticed lots of green (toxic) potatoes on the shelf. Went and asked for manager and a young man came out and when I told him about the potatoes, he looked blank so I asked You do know you mustn't sell green potatoes because they are toxic. He admitted he didn't, he was a duty manager as the other manager had left for home. I phoned the Head office and they will be talking to the Manager and also sending their produce manager to the store, as I had also complained about strawberries that were bad when the date was two days ahead. All squishy at the bottom of the container.
I also have a good relationship with our local Somerfield staff and the manager who has asked me to make sure anything I comment on is written in a book for him to check on later, as the standard of the veg is appalling, bad potatoes in almost every bag in the last few months.
I buy most of my veg frozen, it is fresher than the stuff that has been hanging round in the warehouse and shelves etc I do like Lidls stuff because I think they have a very fast turnover, because of the lower prices.

I am just happy that I live in a country where I can just pop to the shops when my family needs feeding. Any shop even if its aisles are full of produce - we are very very lucky!

A lot of Tesco salads are grown and packed locally.One lorry brings the salads in and several take them away. The mark up on the bags of mixed leaves must be extraordinary.

Those Little Gems are actually the big lettuce that have had sub-standard outer leaves removed.

Tracy's right on page 3 is correct. If you don't like the service or goods then complain to the manager or to head office. Nothing will get fixed otherwise. A few written formal complaints will do wonders for service.

If you don't like something don't waste time whinging to each other - do something about it.

I bought a bag of salad in Tesco..... I buy it every week...... .It said 33% extra free.........I swear it was no bigger

Have you noticed also that all of the shops that are selling the items for less than beofre have reduced the size of the article. They have us always.

One thing I remember from uni - I know you can't have everything if you order things online - was that I used to do my internet shopping with Tesco, but I did notice that (having ordered carefully to plan my meals out for about ten days) I often used to get my online order and find that all the fresh stuff had best before dates within the next one to four days. So in the end I think I gave up and started walking to Morrisons instead.

I am always really surprised when I see staff taking the big cages out to re-stock because I used to work at Booths (a north-west England family-run small chain of supermarkets) and we were never, ever allowed to take the cages out onto the shopfloor. Once they came off the lorry, they were sorted by shopfloor and warehouse staff into trolleys according to which section each item belonged to (tinned meat, jam, toiletries etc) and the staff would then take the trolleys out onto the shopfloor to restock.

I agree about the quality of veg at Tesco especially the potatoes. Many times i have complained to them about a rotten potatoe in the bag. They smell disgusting.
Our store has recently had the car park upgraded and it was a nightmare trying to park during the day. I resorted to shopping late in the nights. For my inconvenience i got triple clubcard points for shopping after 6pm and regularly had money off vouchers from them.
Now the carpark is finished and the store upgraded is is great.

I have to say that when I shop in Tesco's I get everything I want. I dont have to wait long in the queues however I must admit as a customer I am fed up with people moaning about queues, availibility and staff. I have yet to see anyone of these people addressing this with any of the managers on duty at the time, simply make snidey comments for complete strangers to hear. I think the management need to be informed of what we are unhappy about, so they can try to fix it. If it doesnt get fixed then speak to the next level of management.However this seems to be very much inkeeping with the British mentality. At least you would be able to get some answers.

I have put this story on before but it worth another go.

A few years ago I was doing a big merchandising job in a smallish supermarket that had it's warehouse upstairs. There was a conveyor to take the stock upstairs.

When I arrived at 11.45 they had had a frozen delivery sometime before, it was lying unattended on the conveyor, frozen chicken and all sorts of other frozen goods.

The job I was doing was long and tedious, an entire range of chocolate as I recall.

When I had finished and signed out at 14.30 the frozen goods were still lying unattended on the conveyor.

i agree with the bit about fruit and veg when buying carrots or strawberries or even pre packed fruit i have opened it the next day to find it has gone off .ALSO when tesco offer 5p off a litre of fuel they put up the price at the pumps first by 2p on the when you spend £50 so people are not really getting the bargain they thought they were????????????
