Don't start me on cyclists...

There is nothign wrong with cyclists in general, but there are some who do not know road law, or just blatantly ignore it anyway. ie last year while I was still on crutches, I was crossing at a pelican crossing, light on green, signal beeping, and a cyclist jsut ignored in and cut me up while I was crossing!!

However these are in the minority. Lots of cyclists ARE on their way to and from work, and these I have nothing against. Most wear reflective clothing, use lights, helmets and clear signals. I do believe there should be a compulsory test before cyclists are allowed to use the roads though, and I also believe helmets should be made law.

However that is another debate. I am a cyclist myself, Or at least was until my bike was nicked, and have nothing against cycling as a mode of transport at all, as long as it is used safely and sensibly.

You are complaining about tractor drivers who are going about their daily work. They have no choice but to use the roads on their taxed & insured tractors. Occasionally they can be seen parked outside a shop, why should this be a problem?
More annoying is the amount of horses being exercised on our roads, they move slowly, to pass them safely it is necessary to slow down to a crawl. These horses are often being ridden by young people who have no idea of the Highway Code.
The cyclists are as bad, especially those in races, once you pass one you know that it is likely that you will get up the road to hit another queue attempting to pass another one. How many of you have children who ride their bikes on the roads?
These people are not trying to earn a living wage to support their families. Modern tractors are now able to be driven at a reasonable speed on the roads. So like has been already said ‘If you need to be somewhere at a certain time, leave yourself ample time for your journey’.
Yes there are those who drive farm vehcles that are not roadworthy, but there are far more people on our roads that are driving around in unsafe cars.
Your MOT only means that on the day it was inspected it was roadworthy, tyres & brakes wear out!

Not disputing that one bit

The 6 cars we have pulled out of floods this morning due to their idiot drivers trying to drive through waist deep water were rather happy to see me and a few others on tractors.

Well you will all be moaning when there is a bread shortage. It's harvest time FGS, you want your food, the farmers grow it, let them do their jobs.

You're only sitting there in your cosy little fuel guzzling, pollution making boxes trying to get from a to b in the shortest time and least effort possible.

Yes I agree that the Highway Code states they should pull over, and that's fine. But you know,there are far more dangerous incidents of ignoring the Highway code than this. Speeding being the biggest one. It won't hurt you to slow down and wait for a few minutes.

As for lack of common sense. You know, I see far more examples of that in car drivers several times a day, and I wonder how they ever passed their test.

Farmers have enough problems getting their harvest in before the rain rots it. Cut them some slack eh?

James Cullimore studied Agricultural Business Management at the University of Reading. His dissertation, Road accidents involving agricultural vehicles - what are the causes and can they be reduced?, has been used by the DfT and HSE.

As part of that, he looked at a range of farm machinery on 10 farms in Gloucestershire to see whether equipment was road-legal. He found that 25% of self-propelled agricultural vehicles, 45% of trailers and 39% of wheeled implements did not meet legal standards.

You should all be thankfull ,that with high fuel bills even on the farms ,that tractors are still on the roads.
Without them you would be paying FAAAAR more for your meat,dairy products and bread ,veg' and the like.
Leave home earlier and stop whinging.

Peter it is annoying. I got stuck in a que last night on way home from work, must have been a mile long tail back so it seemed, but as Angie said, they are only doing their job. They should pull over tho when safe to do so, this Farmer did, but by the time I got anywhere near his tractor, he pulled out again, but luckily my turning was nearby..
