Up here in the north Warwicks the small farmers seem to be doing pretty well, Rosalind. My friend's family farm is thriving (her husband always pulls over - lol). They've diversified into livery and have a farm shop which certainly keeps the wolf from the door.

I know it's difficult to make a living on traditional farms these days, Supermarkets insist on "uniform" crops and pay the lowest price they can but a lot of people are prepared to pay a little more for fresh stuff from the farmers' markets and farm shops.

I still think there's no excuse for bad manners when driving and leaving mud all over the road, though.

Off to the pub quiz now.

Last time I tried to post this I got caught in a traffic jam. lol

Second time lucky, maybe.

The car drivers.

All this from people who whilst doing their tree have found many an 'ag lab'!

Just remember that many of the A roads & Motorways have been built on the least habitated land...you would not like to have them cutting through your nieghbourhood...many farms have been cut into 2. So how are these farmers supposed to work their land?

Regarding tractors holding up long queues of traffic.

We were stuck behind one last week , for about 10 miles.......it was on a main road into Carlisle.....the tail back of traffic this tractor caused was very long indeed..........it really should have pulled over to let traffic past and could have done easily , as we saw several places that it could have stopped easily.

Some car drivers over-took in what looked to me like dangerous places. In a situation like that who would have been at fault ?

I'm also Warwickshire born and bred , but no way could I afford to live there now, most of the farmers have sold up or just given up farming themselves and let the land out.
A lot is now very commercial, and they have to think along those lines to survive. For every inconsiderate tractor driver there are dozens of inconsiderate car drivers who fail to understand that tractors have an equal right to be on the road. Live and let live, we all have a right to try and earn a living.

Oh dear I digressed , erm well anyway what would the motorists want the farmers to do go back to the horse and cart , least they would get some nice manure for the roses ;-))))))))))

Around here in Warwickshire it's farmers, Rosalind. I was born and brought up in farming country and some of them in these parts are very inconsiderate.

I say some, not all, younger farmers seem to have a much better attitude than their elders in the villages around me.

Council tractors, but they're not farmers then.

You always get the 'odd one' in all walks of life.
It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful it is to fly over England and see the patchwork laid out below. Although still the biggest worry is getting the harvest in. Remember when there were all the pictures on TV and the newspapers of full intervention stores? Well start worrying, with poor quality wheat bread prices will increase.

The road Jen and I are talking about is the main A road from Aberystwyth to Cardigan. It's a very busy road, not a country lane. There are laybys all the way along it but sometimes you can follow a convoy of 2 or 3 council tractors travelling up hill for miles, passing several laybys along the way.

I'm not a townie just someone who expects all farmers to obey the law and show consideration as many of them do.

My point exactly Rosalind. I said before, it's not like they are stuck behind them on the M4 all the way from London to Bristol. It's a couple of miles.

Nobody has time to live these days.

My son in law takes my grandaughter to school in his tractor sometimes and is more considerate in his driving than some of the woman in there 4x4s who seem to think that the world stops for the school run , and while we are at it I agree with the sentiments of others that if people want second homes out in the country then get used to the kin life style that go's with it , cos the young 'uns who have grown up there would love to be able to afford to stay there and enjoy that life style.

Why this farmer bashing?
The country side will not look like it does if everything is brought in from abroad just so you can maintain a nice clean quiet countryside. Your food coming from other countries may contain banned chemicals/drugs which are not banned in the country of production, and methods of production cannot be checked like they can in Britain.
In an ideal world the ground would be dry to allow farmers to move on and off land without mud on their wheels coming off on the road and they would have enough laybys to pull into to allow you to pass. What is 4 or 5 miles, nothing these days.

I only tar those with lack of consideration for other roads users whatever they are driving.

There are a lot of tractors around here as well, it's farming country, but I'm afraid the ones who live near us not among the most considerate.
