Yes I agree .............

I agree. It strikes me as being a matter of protocol.
If you're cold-calling a possible relative, under the present arrangement it may look a bit churlish to be withholding access! However if the default were to be as suggested, this unintended slight would not occur.
I often find myself cold-contacting someone who seems to have a shared interest, and very often find that the "hot match", or whatever, is only a remote connection of theirs, or not related at all - in which case offering them my f.t. is pointless.

I'd be interested to receive comment on this from the site management.

I agree it needs changing.

It used to work the other way but GR made a conscious decision to change it to the way it currently is a couple or so years ago.

Worth a try, but unless there is a change of heart, I can't see them changing it back as their policy is to encourage sharing of trees between members.

I've sent Support a message about this.

We can only hope they do what so many want.

Totally agree! BUT There is no point in starting up a 'please support' thread because (i) GR will do absolutely nothing about it and (ii) you face the prospect of being advised that it is contrary to the T&Cs of the boards and you will face being permanently banned if you continue.

I started a true petition which many may remember re the pricing structure. It was well supported with a running total of over 500 individual names on it.

They don't appear to take any notice of what the paying members want - some like myself from the very beginning of the site. I would welcome a small change by GR of not having to uncheck that box, I hope you're successful.

It would sound somewhat dictatorial of them if a lot of people want a particular change but they were to refuse to take any notice.

Aren't we allowed to make any suggestions about what would make these boards pleasanter to use?

I certainly wouldn't have started if I felt it was going to risk being banned but asking for a small change to the site is hardly upsetting anyone.

I've been a member since November 2002 and we've seen many changes to these boards. Some we've not liked and sometimes they have done trials and asked our opinion.

It would be very wrong I think if we couldn't ever ask nicely for a change or express an opinion about something we dislike.

I agree, I have made the mistake of allowing my tree to be opened a few times..... sally
