Just for interest and information... in a nutshell
Jesus was born of the Jewish faith, but admonished the jewish sadducees and pharsees,(priests,) for the hard laws that they imposed upon their people, which is why they put him to death....He then instituted the Christian faith...(Christian means to 'be Christ like' ) Jesus said two things were necassary .. Love God. and Love your neighbour. God said..... Who are we (thats all of us) to judge another mans servant.. So I judge no-one , for whatever they believe or follow, for you are my neighbours.... dont mean to preach just explain

you had me going for a min then colin - was right up in arms.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying my path is the SAME as 'years ago' - I don't think that's possible, and it doesn't make it any better. I just struggle with a lot of very christian threads like these (as people in general are finding out) when it's so different to my own path!

Its not fair to rate any religion on its antiquity - there are many lots older than christianity, thats for sure.
I too dont like things being quoted as fact when they are purely opinion, but I would fight for the right of a person to say so...if that makes sense...?
Making me blush Laura!

Colin - you say about Islam being a relatively modern religion. I would say the same about Christianity, seeing as I am a practising pagan - the native spirituality of these isles and many others.
Doesn't mean I expect everyone to believe the same, have friends of many faiths, but I do kind of resent some opinions that keep cropping up in threads at the moment that are of a christian nature

Well Lindy you are correct about our all being related and all decending from Adam. But the mistake men make is, they all scoff at the idea of Satan and their foolishness makes him so happy. You will recall he said to Jesus,if you do an act of worship to me, ille give you all the kingdoms of the earth. Jesus at no time said , Its not yours to give--he said--get behind me satan.
So while men refuse to acknowlege satan---satan who hates mankind--- They will never come to see that he is the cause of all the problems and wars on the earth--And in their ignorance will continue as always.

Hi Lindy.
What a coincidence! I have traced my roots back to Adam as well, but haven't been able to get Eve's birth certificate yet, although I'm trying. I too have a few gaps, but nothing to worry about.
Soooo.......we must be related. Can I share your tree please?
lol

Hi, Ian and Everyone ~~~~~~~~waves~~~~~~~~
We are all from a common beginning! And I am trying to prove it!
I have got a rough ancestry back to Adam and Eve. But there are a few gaps. If or when I get there everyone there will be the first to know!!!!!

A bit like the crusaders, who weren't adverse to lopping the odd head off themselves.
And coming into the modern world.a bit like the sectarian murders in Northern Ireland, when the wrong religion was a passport to a kneecapping or a one in the head.
All I am trying ot say is that two very different and warring faiths share the same word for peace.
That should not make anyone turn in any grave. To the contrary, it should be a sign that we are all from common beginnings.
As-salaam alaykum!

Shalom is a Jewish thing ,Islamic? My grandfather would turn in his grave, rip his sleeve. Islam is a comparativeley new religion--sprang up about 600 A D; This peacefull religion had conquered the Eastern world from India to half of spain within 100 yrs of being founded, lobbed a lot o heads in the bargain

Interesting that you use Shalom - the jewish word for peace (amongst other things)
It takes it's root from the Arabic (islamic) word for the same - salaam.
Neither are christian :-)
Just shows we can all get along when we want to, despite religion, lol

Same difference Ian , Shalom
Who was it who said--Religions a snare and a rackett? Great knowlege often fills the head of wisdom with many qoates, not always his own held veiws and opinions, but it serves to express the veiw of an absent yet sometimes reveered personage if the above makes sence, do it ? I cant think straight since my stroke. things sort of become like trying to read letters through a cracked mirror.

Hello, I enjoy good talks and fair debates, but unfortunately subjects on religion do always end up as an argument, silly me, I may have begun this with things written the other day, it is not my intention to dispose of anyones belief or opinion. Unfortunately today there are too many religious groups to keep track of, but even with knowing that, why is it that each of them have a different set of events, yet all end up at the same door.

Im not saying religions have kept men in darkness. You are - it was your quote :-)
I'm saying that organised religion is responsible for countlesss atrocities over thousands of years.
Inquisitions, witch trials, crusades, jihads, northern ireland, whatever, all in the name of my god is better than your god.
Feel free to worship whoever or whatever, but don't try to convert me :-)

A lot of people think like that mick, but it only goes to proove Ian right, when he and others say how religions have kept men in darkness, by not teaching what the Bible says, Even our Lord himself accussed the scribes and pharisees of doing that very thing, .perhaps we have another good debate springing off here.
