	Thanks Dea, I do believe you are right. He was a visitor to the area in 1861. This particular enumerator is very good at giving descriptions, on the next page there is a women who is 'married but deserted'. Thanks Jennifer

	It I believe should say 'Without CARE of souls' - which would mean that he had not at that time got a Parish to look after, but he was a Clergyman. Dea x

	This question is out of sheer curiosity!! Whilst searching 1861 South Luffenham, Rutland I see that the man next door to the one I am looking for is: William Ch. Ellis age 25, Occupation: Clergyman without Cure of Souls. Anyone any ideas? He was born by the way in Cintra (British Subject) which I think may be in Portugal. Jennifer
