Exactly lol. Although I suspect that if there was anything interesting to be found on the family it would be her father's name that would bring it. Think I have the marriage so I'll order the certificate. I just hate waiting a week for them to arrive lol.

I got the medium/pyscic thing as well, and being called Florence and coming from Rome, google wasn`t much help either.

thanks for looking Nicky. I'm going to look for her marriage and see if her father's occupation throws any light on things.

I tried googling her and all I got was a bunch of stuff about this medium from 1873 or something lol.

The italy thing is the most exciting thing I've come across in my tree so far, mostly they're just regular people. Ah well, marriage cert here we come :-)

It's Florence Cook, b c1873 in Rome. Her mother is Sarah not that it will probably help lol.

Her sister was Agnes born c1871 in Holland.

*sigh* I've never been able to make head or tail of the National Archives website. It's my weakpoint, I try to avoid lol. Maybe I'll just have to be satisfied with getting the marriage cert.

£145 Yikes, don't know as if I want to know that much lol. I'm still incredibly curious as to why they were in Holland and Italy.

Have you checked the National Archives site
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/searchthearchives/
as she was born abroad there may be some information there.

Welcome to the world of missing overseas births :(

I could bore you rigid with the story of mine :)

In the end I e.mailed the British Embassy/Consulate for where the birth was said to have taken place. I gave them details of what I was looking for and they came back to confirm they MAY be able to help....At a cost. From memory it worked out at about £145 per event.

Thanks, yes it says she was a BS and her older sister who was born in Holland also is down as BS. Her mother is a widow on the 1881 census, living in London so I've no idea what her father did or his name.

I'm trying familyrelatives now and when I click to view image, it's not bringing anything up, just the square with the red cross. Any ideas? Do I have to download something special?

If she was a British subject, you may be able to find her among the consular BMDs on www.familyrelatives.com or www.findmypast.com

My 2xGGrandmother appears to have been born in Rome, Italy as a British Subject. Any ideas on how I can find this birth, please? I've never had to look abroad before, but it all sounds incredibly exotic lol.
