Hi -

I have today received an email with an census image attached.

On the email is the following:

"(paperclip symbal) OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your email. Harman 1871jpg "

I have seen this message on a few odd occasionsbefore but as I knew that it proably a friend sending another Joke I wasn't bothered and just deleted the email.

Can the sitiation be reversed/rectified.?

Could this have anything to do with Macros being either on or off? Not that I would know what to do if either were the case.

Am feeling more than a tad helpless and frustrated.

Regards

Rikta, even Rita would suffice.

Hi Rita

Googled and found this here.

http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/Unblock-Outlook-Express-6-Attachments.php

If you google there is quite a lot of information about.

Gail.

The alternative approach is to use Start-Search to find the file Harman1871.jpg (remember to punctuate it properly) and then double-click on the result to view it. You might additionally consider copying the file (right-click + copy) and pasting it into some other, more accessible, folder. I've created a folder just for certificates. This is handy if you collect, say, census images from Ancestry, or all sorts from scotlandspeople.

Michael has it right.

Just so you know. Outlook express uses the Internet Explorer Unsafe File List to determine if an attachment should be blocked (ie inaccessible). This only happens when Tools | Options | Security - Do not allow attachments ... is ticked.

A .jpg file should never be blocked, as that file type is not in the list.

However if the filename is as Rita gave it "Harman 1871jpg" without a dot, then it will be blocked since the file type cannot be determined.

Once you have deleted a message - and it's not in the Deleted Items folder, and terminated Outlook Express, there is nothing you can do about it. It is gone forever. Ask the sender to send it again.

Hi, Rita.
I can retrieve 'Deleted' emails provided I do it withing a week (I think). Click on the Deleted folder, then on the item you wish you hadnt deleted.

Gail -

I looked at the web and found a million pages for to nucleurtechnologies; so eeked, freaked and froze.

mgny -

I followed your Start-Search option but found nothing.

Michael -

Followed your instructions and unchecked 'download images' but the attachment still blocked.

Have asked my sender to resend image to see what happens.

If I still can't open it I shall curl up in a ball, suck my thumb and throw a tantrum. Nah, I'll have a good slug of red instead.

David -

1871jpg was a typo on my part although I must say I didn't realise how important a dot was.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I will let you know if the image arrives

Grateful thanks to you all for your help.

Regards

Rita

Resolution;

For Windows/XP SP2

When the Tools | Options > Security option "Do not allow attachments ..." is ticked : Unsafe attachments will be blocked.

Text (eg .txt) and Image (eg .tif, jpg) files will be blocked unless the program associated with the file type is Notepad (text files) or Window Picture and Fax Viewer (image files).

What had happened in Rita's case was that the association for .jpg had been changed to Internet Explorer.

The resolution is to change the program associated with .jpg back to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
