The numbers at the side are schedule numbers, not house numbers.

You could try looking at the 1891 census, or historical directories.

Is it crucial to your research?

If so, which is the name you are following?

Have you looked on the image itself? What name is it you are looking at?

Is there any way you can discover what number in a particular street a 1901 census entry is?

Reference number RG13 4547, 24, 40 shows Long street, Thirsk, North Yorkshire but no numbers.
